So my partner and I are having a courthouse ceremony near the end of this year (date TBC, long story, beaurocracy). He's french, im australian, we were meant to get married more in early autumn but with me not being french the paperwork has been an absolute nightmare, and suddenly im getting married in winter. I'm sewing my own dress, a midi length puffy feminine dress with sheer sleeves and low neckline in pink silk muslin. I've put alot of money and time into it, as when i designed it it wouldnt be too cold. Well now i'm getting married in the cold and i know this dress is gonna freeze my ass off, especially with the sheer sleeves since i cant wear a thermal underneath. For financial reasons and sentimental reasons, im compelled to push on and wear it anyway, shiver a bit indoors and put a big coat on outside. But another part of me thinks thats delusional, I should let the dream go and design something in a sturdier fabric that i can wear layers under. we don't go to events so I'll probably never get another opportunity to wear the pink dress, and the financial hit of making a new one will suck. What would yall do?

Hi everyone, so I’m f27, and 5 9”. My fiancé m30 is 5 6”. Obviously as a woman I’ve experienced a lot of pressure from media and everyone talks about that, but since a man who is short and also balding has entered my life I’ve realised that for certain things the pressure on men might even be worse. When we started dating I suddenly started noticing in movies the man is almost never shorter or even the same height, I mean I watch a movie every night and can think of maybe 2 where there is a height difference and it’s not a gag. Same with the balding. It’s honestly really depressing and no one talks about it, at least not in the mainstream. I think with how things have improved most women can find someone in media who looks like them, but for men who are short? Not good enough for any romance ever apparently unless the director can use forced perspective to make him seem taller. Anyway I don’t really know why I’m posting this, I just wish there was more of a movement for men in media the way there is for women, and I’m sorry to all the men who have been told the pressure isn’t as bad as with women.

okay so i just binged lovesick all at once, and for those who havent seen it it is a MUST WATCH! i dont think any show has made me care for the characters this much and the love triangle is super strong and makes sense.

those who have seen it, i need to hear thoughts! i kept fluctuating between daniel and antonio and in the end no matter who she chose i think i would have been sad lol. I think daniel really was her soulmate and their love was stronger but Antonio could provide the life she actually needed to be fulfilled and she still loved him, but not as much. I think having also been in a similar chaos vs stability dynamic it shows the value in choosing who we give our love to and that love doesnt actually trump all, it needs more than that. Whenever daniel was away and wanted her to be with antonio, whenever they were together i wanted her to be with daniel. but if you just look factually at how her life was with each of them, its clear daniel was putting her in so much danger and trauma. still, i think its unfair to criticise him for going away to be a revolutionary when everyone did actually want to have a new government, like you cant want people to fight and then abandon the ones who do because they werent around, idk. Im feeling so emotional i dont know what to do with myself lol

I was debating whether to post this but decided I should. Yesterday evening I was on the walking path in athalassa park when a man who was walking in the opposite direction stopped me and asked my age and if I was a student and my name and where I live. I just gave vague answers and walked away. Then he turned around and seemed to be following me so I walked super fast. After a while he seemed to be gone, but as I rounded a corner I saw him standing there about 50m ahead on the side of the trail. I definitely didn’t see him go past me so he must have gone through the bush to get there, and I was walking very fast. I immediately turned around to walk back to where lots of people are and he continued to follow me but after a while gave up. He was dark olive skin, black hair, pretty skinny and maybe about 5 8”. I could have misread the situation, maybe he was just socially awkward but just wanted to let ladies who frequent the park know.

So I recently finished BOMB and really didn’t like Brian’s character. One thing that really stood out to me was how he told Julia that now she’s pregnant with his dad’s baby he won’t help her escape. He knows she has her true love out there and is willingly compelling her to stay in a relationship probably for life where she is raped , all in the name of honour. Especially after seeing how his own mother’s life was, how can he doom someone to that? It’s heartless and I really feel any of the men in the original series (Jamie, Ian, Roger, maybe even William?!) wouldn’t do that. It’s not like she will be alone , unwed mother, she has a husband out there! How can he look a women in the eye and say ‘yeah well now you’re pregnant sorry but for the sake of public appearances I think it’s better you get raped nightly, lose your autonomy and your actual husband’. Idk it just really shocked me.

So my fiancé’s mum is a dietitian in a mental hospital and doesn’t believe Arfid is real. It’s just been horrible. We stayed with his parents a few weeks and once she realised I was a ‘picky eater’ started purposely testing me. My partner spoke to her privately explaining and she said I’m just spoiled. He said if she includes meat or bread I can get the vegetables down ok. So then the next two weeks guess what? Pure vegan. Egg plant stuffed with veggies, tomato salad with egg for dinner (tomato and egg are my two worst) etc. The other night she brought out a ‘spinach stew’ which is just spinach that looks like someone chewed it and spat it out. She put a pile on my plate… and then broke a raw egg on it. I sat there holding tears back, and tried a tiny bit of spinach and then had to run to the toilet and vomit. Then I cried my eyes out in there and my partner had an argument with his mum. At the table she is always saying in French ‘is my food not good enough for her’ because she knows my French is bad (they are French) and his dad says (it’s good she doesn’t eat, she’s looking a little fat) (btw I’m underweight). Which of course results in my partner telling them off and drama. I don’t understand because otherwise she’s super nice to me, she even is paying for the wedding. My partner has been a wonderful support but it’s so damn hard. What scares me the most is she works as a dietitian at a MENTAL HOSPITAL with EDs. I just needed to vent to people who get it

I know it would differ drastically between countries , I’m more interested in for Europeans who were involved the majority of the length of the wars and soldiers of no high rank, just an average conscript. If after the wars a, for example, French ww1 soldier and French ww2 soldier sat down and compared experiences was it basically the same or did the technological advances have a massive impact? Which experience is likely to have been worse?

Ok I’ll try to keep this brief lol. I’m Aussie, partner is French, I’m moving to France end of this year. I am hoping to do a masters end of next year in French (I’m at B2) which would start next September. Our wedding has been booked for next July but these heatwaves are freaking me out and now we are looking at changing to September 18, which would be the first week of classes. With French being my second language, is it a horrible idea to potentially miss the first week and just generally be preoccupied during orientation? When doing my bachelors it would have been chill but this is my second language and a uni system I’m completely new to. Any advice appreciated

So my partner is French and I’m Aussie, getting married next July. We are settling in France and thus we are having a ‘French wedding’ and maybe 80% of guests will be French. Our budget is only 20k and I’m trying to find ways to bring a bit of Australia to the wedding that I think the guests would enjoy. At first I thought Aussie food and then I realised our food will never hold a candle to theirs 😂 now I’m thinking flowers, most of which I’m diying. I was thinking one one side of the aisle the flowers could all be French and on the other Australian. Thing is they would probably have to be dried if I want them cheap. Anyway if anyone has ideas I would love to hear them!

Sorry but I gotta vent… I’m so sick having to ask vendors for their price range. Yes I know the season and date changes the price but I’m sure they have a minimum they always charge. I email them and the tell me, I don’t know why they can’t just put it on the website. Photographers all wanted a phone call to discuss my ‘vision’ before even giving me a range which wastes both our time. Some people may say ‘if you have to ask you can’t afford it’ but I’ve had quotes ranging from 1k to 50k, regardless of the price bracket they don’t state it on their website. Also an investment is an expense that in the long term gives a return. It is not a service that you consume once off like food, flowers etc. Rant over lol

Ad the title says. Bit stressed over planning and it would be fun to have some people to chat to who are on the same timeline and might share the same date!

So my partner and I are getting married next July near Paris (he’s French) and I’ve made a list of photographers that are highly recommended, well known kinda guaranteed to work out. The cost of these is about 10% of our budget. But he has a friend who’s a photographer who said she can recommend some other options who are not well known and thus way cheaper. It just makes me nervous as if our photos mess up I’ll be honestly heartbroken. But maybe I am being indulgent wanting to hire a very fancy photographer. Thoughts?
