Understand its direct meaning: In Sanatana Dharma, the chaap (religious mark on the body) and tilak (vermilion mark on the forehead) are the biggest symbols of a Hindu's identity, faith, and culture. Amir Khusrow writes that a person comes, meets your eyes, and in the blink of an eye, snatches away your entire Sanatani identity—your tilak, your chaap, your bangles, your religion—and separates you from your core traditions.

Now, some people will come and say, "This is just symbolic; it has nothing to do with religion." Well, if it's merely symbolic, why does it only mention Hindu symbols like saree, bangles, tilak, and chaap? Why didn't Amir Khusrow show caps or hijabs being snatched away? Why didn't he write: "Jubba and topi sab cheen li"?

Because these metaphors aren't accidental. They specifically talk about stripping away a Hindu identity to give a new religious or spiritual identity. The poetic language we kept humming out of affection is actually a celebration of erasing a Sanatani identity and converting them. We kept clapping inside our own temples and kirtans while our own identity was being taken away.

Cultural erasure doesn't always happen with a sword; sometimes it is served in the form of sweet music and poetry. Bollywood romanticized it heavily, but now the time has come to understand the agenda behind every word and stay aware.
