Pivoting away from Libraries with a Bachelors in info & library science and not a Masters in library science.

Hello. (22M)

I graduated with a bachelors in info & lib science in may this year, and was intending to go for a masters since that’s required to be a librarian in most places. Bachelors in that field are very rare to my knowledge and aren’t as desirable.

I live in Florida, and very shortly after I graduated over the summer it was announced that it’ll be put to vote to eliminate a significant amount of property taxes.

I already work in a library as an entry level page and have for a few years now, alongside min wage experience beforehand and 8 months of interning at a small archive. Even the director of the library is telling us it’ll be bad for a lot of gov jobs.

I’ve been trying to find full time work since graduating, and after ~80-ish applications I got offered one part time job interview instead and that’s it. A significant number of counties and cities have even completely frozen hiring till November.

I’m highly considering trying to pivot away since the field basically seems to have started crumbling around me right as I am about to go for my masters.

Is there anything else I can reasonably do with my pre-existing bachelors in Information & Lib science? Or did I kinda waste 4 years of my life? (Though thankfully debt free)

Pivoting away from libraries before getting a MLIS.

Hello,
I’m unsure if this is relevant to the sub, so I apologize in advance.

I graduated with a bachelors in info & lib science earlier this year, and was originally intending to begin my MLIS this fall.

I live in Florida, we are likely to abolish a good amount of property taxes this November. I work as a page at my local library currently, and even my director is telling us it’ll be bad.

I’ve seen posts on here before about pivots with a MLIS, but I don’t have that. With a bachelors in info and library science, is there anything I can realistically pivot to? Or am I kind of screwed?
I have a few years of library page experience, 8 months of archival interning, and a few years of min wage experience

Thanks for your time

Pivoting away from libraries with a Bachelors in Info & Lib Science, what am I qualified to do?

Hello, I graduated in may with a Bachelors in Info & Library science, and was intending to go for a MLIS starting next week to try and work in a public library or archive.

I live in Florida, and we’re nigh but guaranteed to eliminate a lot of property taxes, and basically shrink down employment opportunities in local governments come this November. Many counties have already completely frozen hiring.

I’m in need of full time work, and am trying to figure out what options I have to pivot away from Info and Library Science while still making some sort of use out of my degree.

I have a few years experience at an entry level “page” position at a library, 8 months interning at a local archive, and a few years of minimum wage customer service.

Seems I graduated with my bachelors at literally the worst time try and get full time employment in the library field, are there any jobs the information science side of my degree can help me land?

Buying a used Hero10, what to look for?

Hello! I’m getting into snorkeling, and am buying my first digital camera, a Hero10, getting everything included in the photos for $180 USD
I’ve attached photos from the listing

Aside from checking the battery compartment for rust, I have no idea what to look for in terms of damage/issues

Is there anything in specific I should look for to verify it is indeed in good shape?

Places to go to meet other GenZ?

Hello, I’m (22M) a bit of a homebody who lives outside the city, and am looking to expand my social circle. Aside from various nerd things, and reading, I’ve enjoyed snorkeling at local springs,

I’ve always avoided the city like the plague and honestly know nothing about what there is to do in the area. Is there anywhere in specific around the general area that’s a good spot to meet new people?

Thanks!

Jobs for Graduate students?

Hello, I’m admitted for an online MLIS course, I’m eyeing the idea of moving closer to campus to the Tampa Bay Area. I’m kind of wondering how many job opportunities there are out here and in the surrounding area for graduate students?

I’d like to be a little positive here for a change

I’d like to just appreciate DragonSword Awakening a bit, and how it’s absurd to see it trump Bungie and Sony, by abandoning live service models for a traditionally monetized singleplayer one.

It’s genuinely impressive this game even released, the craziness they had to deal with was seemingly worse than what Subnautica 2 had.

the devs were in 2 major lawsuits against their own publisher who screwed them out of their money, won the lawsuits after being bled dry with court costs, laid off a significant amount of their team, leaving just 50 people remaining, and retooled a gacha live service slop title into a traditionally monetized single player game that’s actually pretty decent for what it is.

Even more impressive is them selling 200k copies in a week with a peak concurrent player count of 23k given their marketing budget was self reportedly non-existent / relying on Steam NEXT fest for the entirety of their marketing.

And yet even after all those setbacks, they are able to compete toe to toe with Sony and Bungie!1!1!!1

Joke aside It’s genuinely really cool to see and I’m glad there’s this small trend of games retooling live services / pivoting away from live services into singleplayer games like Crimson Desert, Octopath 0, Final Fantasy Resonance, and DragonSword Awakening. I hope studios see these successes as a sign that players want less live service slop.

Library bookstore pickups, $12 for everything

Only show here I’ve heard of was Dr Stone but I figured for a few dollars a show there’s no harm in picking up a bit. Anything here any good?

Don’t forget to check out your local library, A lot of them have bookstores where they sell weeded discards / donations.

My finished Nintendo 3DS collection.

I was able to nab the last game I was really looking for, for the 3DS, Fantasy Life. Honestly I love all of these games and think I’m done collecting for the system unless I can find Soul Hackers for a reasonable price. Such a treasure trove of really amazing games.

Debating going for PS3, Wii U, or Xbox 360 next

Brought my mother to see The Odyssey, now she thinks it’s a real story and the Laestrygonians are actually the Nephilim.

Hello,
For a while my parents have been relatively relaxed when it comes to religion, and by and large pretty normal. My father still remains quite normal. My mother however, became a YEC when she was younger and tried imposing it on her kids, but aside from that kookiness still pretty normal.

Around the time I straight up told them I’m an atheist a few years ago, and around the same time my brother stopped going to church altogether, my mother started diving deeper into it all.

Her current obsession for the past few months are the Nephilim and how they are real. Stuff like “this guy found Bigfoot and it’s actually a Nephilim.”

The rest of my family was going to see the Odyssey, and I figured I’d ask her if she wanted to go with us, and she obliged. Kinda feeling like that was a mistake now.

From what she said, it seems she looked at the entire film through a biblical lens and is unable to see it any other way (which is bizarre because she used to be fine). I quite like the original story and have multiple translations of it at home and now she’s declaring the entire thing “satanic”

Is there any way to break her free from this absolute drivel? Or am I best keeping my mouth shut?

My first attempt at a world map!

I like to write and I wanted to visualize the world for a story I’m planning to write/am writing, so I came up with this using the “free” tools available. Names are subject to change and any recommendations will be taken

I hope I did a good job : )

Not even trying to hate, serious question, how in the world is Marathon expected to carry Bungie for the foreseeable future?

I’m honestly just baffled. I don’t actively hate marathon like a lot of people here on this sub and moreso just want to see good videogames.

However, I’m utterly baffled with the decisions Sony keeps making and literally just can’t understand them.

How exactly is Bungie supposed to survive if their main game is being out performed by a decade old serialized FPS that hasn’t received a major content update in over 8 years?

Is the job market seriously that bad or am I doing something wrong?

Hello, a few months ago I received one of the few ILS bachelors degrees that are still handed out. I’m aware it’s rather uncommon and not the most ideal, and am working on my MLIS starting this fall.

Ive worked as a page at a local library for a few years now and I’ve interned at a local archive for 6 months.

I’ve been applying for ~40+ assistant positions and the like across my state and have basically nothing to show for it.

Am I doing something wrong or are things really this dire?

You go on a trip out to sea. You suffer a horrible accident, and left adrift while your idiot friend rides off never to be seen again. Tough luck, shouldn’t have trusted a Frenchman…

Reposting this one since it’s been a couple weeks and I only got one response 🥀

If that’s not allowed I’ll delete if informed
