30M living in Oslo, looking for ways to meet people

Heisan,

I'm a 30-year-old guy who's been living in Oslo for a while now, and I'd like to expand my social circle a bit. Right now I'm doing :

  • Dance classes
  • Going to språkkafé 2 times per week
  • I also looked into DNT for hiking groups, but it seems like there aren't that many activities happening around Oslo, or at least I'm not finding them easily. Maybe I'm missing something?

But I feel like I need more options.

I'm open to pretty much anything, sports, hobby groups, meetups, whatever. If you know of good ways to meet people here (Norwegians or expats, doesn't matter), I'd really appreciate the suggestions.

What haircut would suit me best?

Hello

I’m looking for some advice on what haircut might suit me best.

I feel like my hair grows pretty quickly, it’s been about two weeks since my last haircut, and it’s already starting to grow out quite a bit.

I usually go for a skin fade on the sides and leave some length on top, but I’m wondering if there’s another cut or style that would suit me better.

I also don’t really have a hair care routine. I just use regular shampoo and don’t use any gel, wax, or other styling products.

Thank you

How small is the kink/BDSM community really? Does bad blood follow you around?

Hello,

Been active in the kink scene for a few months now as a man, meeting people through apps and a bit of dating along the way. Recently found out there are group events/munches through one of these platforms, which sounds like a great way to meet more people in a lower-pressure setting.

Only issue: there are one or two people I've met in person where things just didn't click, no drama, just mismatched vibes. Nothing bad happened, just wasn't a fit. But I know these are the same people who tend to show up at these community events.

So my question for people more established in the scene: how small/tight-knit is this community usually? If someone doesn't have great things to say about a past date, does that kind of thing spread and affect how you're perceived at events, even if nothing actually went wrong?

Trying to figure out if I should go into the event scene, especially because the scene is small where I live (600k people in the city I live)

Appreciate any perspective from people who've been in local scenes for a while.

Stuck at A2 after 7 months of learning norsk

Hei

I'm a 32-year-old French guy, moved to Norway about a year and a half ago. I've been trying hard to learn Norwegian since last december but I feel like I'm stuck..

Here's what I've done so far:

  • 6 months of intensive courses (A1 to B2 level), 8 hours/week, split between conversation and grammar
  • Daily Duolingo, 15 min
  • Daily flashcard review, 15 min
  • Trying to learn 2-3 new words a day
  • Since June, going to a språkkafé twice a week
  • Since 2 weeks learning 15 min of book A1

Despite all this, I still feel like I'm hovering around A1-A2 and nothing seems to really stick. I'm not sure if it's a retention issue, a method issue, or just normal for someone at my stage.

Did something eventually click for you? What changed?

When I learn english a few years ago, I had a good level in 6 months (maybe B1/B2) but for norsk it s more complicated.

My motivation to learn the language are :

  • To live on the long term in Norway (maybe forever)
  • For work (I have a good job but in the future if I need to change, I need to be fluent in norsk)

How can a procurement/category manager add real value during a supplier quality audit?

Hi

I work as a Category Manager in charge of managing several raw material. I'll soon be part of several suppliers audits alongside a Quality Manager, a Process Engineer, and a Materials Engineer from my company.

The audit will cover:

  • In the morning a factory floor visit to check for non-conformities.
  • In the afternoon we will focused on quality issues, documentation, and ISO-related systems.

Honestly, my role isn't strictly required for this audit , the technical experts will drive most of the findings. My manager is nice and we have budget so I am lucky to participate. Nevertheless I'd like to:

  1. Actually be useful and not just "along for the ride"
  2. Come away with deeper knowledge of the products I purchase, how they're actually made, not just specs on a PO

For those of you with procurement experience in audits like this:

  • What should I be watching for on the factory floor that a quality/process person might not think to flag from a commercial/supplier relationship angle?
  • Any good questions to ask the plant staff to genuinely understand the manufacturing process better?

Would appreciate any war stories or checklists you use. Thanks!

I live and work in norway since 2025.

Bar game in Oslo

Hey everyone!

I’m living in Oslo and I’m looking for recommendations for a good bar with games inside.

By games, I mean things like arcade machines, pool tables, shuffleboard, or anything similar not necessarily only that, but just a place where you can grab a drink and also have fun playing something.

Any recommendations?

How do you handle a stakeholder site that just won't collaborate, no matter how much you escalate?

Hi

I'm a category manager based in Europe, working with four factories globally (including one in the US) to set long-term sourcing strategy, supplier selection, materials, pricing, quality, on-time delivery.

One of the factories is non-responsive for some topics, and it's actively breaking my strategy. A few examples:

  • A supplier had significant quality issues. I've been asking for months for a full overview of what happened and the impact. Nothing. Meanwhile, the supplier isn't being paid, and we're at risk of losing our dual-sourcing setup and ending up single-source. (I think they've already decided internally to drop this supplier, and slow-walking the overview + not paying them is their way of forcing it through without ever having that conversation with me directly)
  • I'm waiting on a buyer there to place a sample order. Multiple follow-ups, no action.
  • I need a confirmed delivery date to secure a slot with another supplier. Same silence.

Every time, it's "yes yes, don't worry, we'll send it tonight", and then nothing. I've escalated to my own manager and to their manager. Still nothing.

When I make a request, I always try to show the benefits / risks of the action.

I'm honestly a bit stuck. Has anyone dealt with a stakeholder site like this? What actually worked, beyond "escalate more"?

[Routine Help] 32M, 2 months into a real skincare routine feedback wanted

Hi everyone,

I'm a 32-year-old guy. I started taking care of my skin about three years ago, but it was just a basic moisturizer, nothing more. Two months ago I switched to a full routine, and I'd love some feedback.

My current routine:

Morning:

  • Face cleaner
  • Eye contour cream (contains caffeine)
  • Face cream with SPF50 (sun protection + moisturizing)

Evening:

  • Face cleaner
  • Eye contour cream (contains caffeine)
  • Retinol
  • Moisturizing face cream

Other:

  • I do a lot of sport
  • Drink water
  • No drugs, cigarettes or alcohol
  • My alimentation is good (no fast food or processing food)
  • My sleep is ok

A few questions:

  1. What do you think of this routine? Anything missing, redundant, or ordered wrong?
  2. What do you think of my skin overall? (photo attached, I shaved yesterday, so there's a bit of stubble, but normally I keep it clean-shaven)
  3. I'm considering adding castor oil, partly for the skin itself, but also because I'd like to grow out my beard eventually in the future and I've read it might help with growth. Does anyone have real experience with this ?

Thanks

1.5 months into bachata and social dancing

Hi,

I've been taking bachata classes for about 6 weeks now as a leader (1 hour of class per week, plus 3 beginner workshops, ~3 hours each).

I've got the basic step, box step, and a simple turn down . But I'm hesitating hard on going to my first social class (there is one in my city every week)

My main worry: I only really know 3-4 moves. I'm not sure I can fill an entire song without running out of ideas or just repeating the same combo over and over and looking like I'm stuck on a loop.

  • For those who've been through this is this a normal stage?
  • Did you wait until you had more moves, or did you just show up and figure it out
  • Any tips for surviving (and enjoying) a full song ?

I like bachata, the connection with people, the musics but with 1,5 you can imagine that I am doing a lot of mistakes.

Which Norwegian industry would you bet on for long-term job security + good pay? (Procurement background)

Hi all,

I am working as a category manager (sourcing of raw material) in the renewable energy sector in Norway for 2 years now.

  • About 6 years of experience total in procurement
  • I speak French (native), English (C1).
  • My norwegian is A2, I need to be B2 to be able to work in most of the industries.
  • I love norway so no plan to move.

I like my current job, but I'm thinking long-term and want to understand the landscape better.

If I ever had to pivot, which industries would you consider the safest bets in Norway / Europe right now, both in terms of job security over the next 30 years ?

Of course it is difficult to know what will happens in the next 30 years (AI lay off, new industry / technology, etc)

Thanks!

Complete beginner looking to try climbing this weekend, what's the social vibe like?

Heisan,

I'm completely new to climbing and thinking about giving it a try this weekend, mainly looking for a fun way to get active and meet people (moved to Oslo recently and building up my social life).

A few questions for anyone who climbs regularly:

  • Is climbing more of a solo activity where you do your own thing and occasionally chat with people, or is it naturally social/group-based?
  • For a total beginner, is it easy to strike up conversations, or does everyone come with their own group already?
  • Any tips for a first visit, what to expect, gear to rent vs buy, best time to go if I want it to feel more social (weekday evenings vs weekends)?

Tussen Takk !!!

Hiking in group near OSLO

Hi,

I would like to do some hiking in group, with strangers in order to socialize during the weekend.

I checked on DNT but nothing in Oslo or related to hiking during the weekend (I set-up the filters on Oslo only).

So I was wondering, do you have any advice to find hiking group (on DNT or with other websites, groups) ?

Thank you

New male Dom looking for resources and advice

Hi

I am a 32M who’s been diving deeper into BDSM. While I like the toys and equipment, what I love most is the Dominant/submissive relationship.

I’m looking for solid advice on how to be a responsible and effective Dominant. Books, blogs, YouTube channels, podcasts, anything that helped you grow in this role would be amazing. Practises is also important of course but I am also looking for supports.

Thank you

Best activities to meet people / build social circle

Hello,

I'm 32, originally from France, and I've been living in Norway for a year now.

I've never had a large circle of friends, but I've noticed that during the periods of my life when I did have a few close friends, my mood and energy levels were noticeably better.

Since arriving in Norway, I hadn't really prioritized this, partly because of work. I did have one acquaintance for a while, but I don't see him anymore (not the same mood).

Since May, I've started a few new activities:

  • Learning the language, including attending language cafés
  • Learning Bachata
  • Joining a running club, after the run, the group usually grabs a coffee together, though I've only managed to join that part twice so far. I know I need to be more consistent.

Beyond that, I'm not sure what else I can do to meet people. I do have coworkers, but reaching out to them makes me nervous, one of them invited me out a few months ago, I said yes, but nothing came of it since neither of us followed up.

Anyway, do you have any recommendations for social activities or places? I'm also a big sports enthusiast.
