Finished playing Alan Wake Remastered on PS4… Review episodes-wise…
“My name is Alan Wake. I’m a writer.” A great way to introduce the protagonist, sure saw the trailer and this game being horror one. My first horror game. I tend to avoid horror games, cause I’m unsure how scared I’ll be, depends on how I perform Outlast later. Playing on PS4 means yeah… 30 FPS
Episode 1 - Nightmare: Beautiful graphics and scenery of Bright Falls town. A lovely daytime, wondered how beautiful it would be at nighttime then.
Damn, Alice gone, his one week memory gone, his car gone, and his sweet vacation gone. All that’s left is a flashlight, and the anomaly of the Dark Presence and the Taken.
The character voices are low, but the goddamn jumpscare tone is so loud… Also, I absolutely hate that they throw axes like how does another axe respawn… Coffee Thermos feel like a collection, I thought it was currency for this game.
I also hate the swift fog everytime, indicating huge waves of Taken. Flare gun saves the day though. The ending got twisted though, the cabin was never there at all.
Episode 2 - Taken: Yeah, I understand that none of the people would believe in his story of darkness. And how did the kidnapper have Alice in the first place, didn’t she drown in the lake there?
Bro left his best friend, Barry, at a cabin and went on his own. New enemies, big dudes with axe now, definitely had to use some batteries to continuously charge at them. Flare comes in hand as well, if lots of mob are charging at you.
After finally finding the kidnapper, the first thing he does is not letting Wake use the goddamn gun. “Give me the goddamn gun!” This line will forever remain in my head😂😂 Had he given the gun, I wouldn’t have died a few times.
What kinda exchange is this? Get his wife for the manuscript pages. About those things, they sure give early spoilers and kinda destroy my hype for the story.
Good jon in believing Wake this time though, Barry. Again another twist, Rose being corrupted by the Dark Presence.
Episode 3 - Ransom: So the trap was to make Wake write the manuscript, but not possible cause we’re escaping. Holy asshole of Agent Nightingale, doesn’t even call him by his name, he should get fired immediately from his job.
Holy shit, now the objects are also danger material??
This has to be the longest episode as well, cause first half is just escaping the police and second half is meeting the kidnapper again in that farmlands, Lover’s Peak to be precise. Now shadow birds are here as well, only formula being flare gun, flares, or just charge flashlight at them when they are about to dash at you.
Turns out the kidnapper never had Alice in the beginning, it was all manipulation by the Dark Presence. Well, he dived into the lake then getting saved by Hartman.
Episode 4 - The Truth: You can’t clearly brainwash Wake by directly telling him his wife is dead. The Anderson brothers really give chad vibes. I definitely scanned the QR code in his room, and has cutscenes as well. I don’t think they are really that mentally unstable. Barry comes to the rescue, and it’s such a stormy night.
I hate that the locks get stuck and rusty at important times, just open it Barry!! Man, now I feel less scared that Barry is there aside to assist. Chainsaw guys, tractors, and lights bursting out… And HAHA, the grand concert party was awesome even though I died twice cause I keep forgetting to use the flare gun!!
But the reward was worth it as the final cutscene really revealed everything. Wake wrote the manuscript in that one week, Thomas Zane saved him, to find Cynthia Weaver for the final solution.
But alas, the jerk Nightingale had to be there to arrest Wake and Barry. Already got spoiled about it in the pages.
Episode 5 - The Clicker: Well, serves the jerk for not reading the manuscript properly. Sarah joins the party, she’s already used to the darkness already, better assist than Barry, sorry dude.
Some big dude keeps attacking me three times during that locked door incident. Barry really got better equipment than Wake’s.
After finally finding Cynthia Weaver, now to reach the top part of the dam, bridges keep collapsing and I keep falling under it. Now that’s everything is settled, the Clicker his mom gave him in childhood is the final weapon for this mess, to banish the witch (Barbara).
Episode 6 - Departure: Very fitting episode name, seems to be the final episode and walkthrough of the story. Damn, from daytime to instant night, what’s wrong with Bright Falls?
Since I played on Normal difficulty, I got lots of loot, especially flares and flashbangs (so goated), shotgun feels better cause fire rate 📈📈…
I actually got killed by birds for the first time lol… After all this journey, I got 100% confidence and not scared at all, maybe cause I’m used to it now. All is well, and now for the final part-
Yeah, that realm with hodgepodge of words. By seeing thermos, I already understood what I had to cook.
And now for the ending, the Dark Presence is destroyed and Alan Wake has to write the ending. No idea what ending he wrote though, but that did save Alice, but… where is he then? Is he not with her, is he stuck in that cabin realm? People are enjoying the Deerfest in the town, but I don’t even see Barry, Sarah and Cynthia.
And his final line about Cauldron Lake “It’s not a lake, it’s an ocean.” And badummzz… The end…
Took me about 17 hours of gameplay for this (2+2+4+3+3+3). Good thing the last few manuscripts didn’t spoil the story.
I don’t have PS5 and I don’t have PC, so I can’t play Alan Wake 2, it’s sure is being hyped. Great story, great characters, quite enjoyed it nonetheless.
