This is what OE spores look like under a microscope.
All of the black spots are OE spores.

Hello, Im just north of Cincinnati. I found this monarch butterfly struggling with a chrysalis still stuck to its wing after doing some vine maintenance. Anyone know if it will get the chrysalis off eventually or should I try to help it? Is there a place in the area i could possibly take it to? Ill try to get better pictures.
Felt really good today, we had 6 Monarchs at one time in our 1 year old Butterfly Garden in Michigan. Managed to capture this cool picture with 4 on one plant. When we purchased the house the garden was ornamental grass and hostas. So this has been an awesome change!
Thank you all so much. Your advice was so helpful. Here is the link to my original post.
Late last night I sent a fairly lengthy email to the superintendent, director of ESC at the school board, and the schools principal. I cc’d all involved including the ESE specialist at the school, the assistant principal that they said they conferred with as well as the person at the county that they said they spoke with.
Early this morning I got a phone call from the ESE at the school board level. I think director’s assistant is who called us. She also told me she will sit in on future IEP meetings. She said she is a certified advocate with the state. She was super nice.
She immediately apologized and told me that what I told her makes her realize that she needs to do some retraining on the phrasing that is used to describe the different classes and resources because apparently I wasn’t wrong in labeling my daughter’s class as inclusive. while I was talking to her, she told me that the principal of my daughter School had called her three times and asked if she could give me a call back in a minute and I of course, said yes.
She told me my daughter has been put in to an inclusive class that receives pushing services just like she was last year. She also said they were going to start the process to have her reevaluated by the psychologist.
Then I got a phone call from the ESC specialist who gave me all this trouble in the first place and she let me know that my daughter will be in the inclusive class with the push in supports and gave me the teacher’s name. It is the same class her little buddy from kindergarten is in and she was so excited to hear that. The Mom and I are friends too so thats cool!
Tomorrow will be her first day. I am beyond relieved. My body and my brain is so exhausted. it sucks that our last weekend before school started was a stressful one, but at least everything worked out. Recently, I have had a few situations where I’ve stood up for myself and it’s backfired. Medical related stuff and this whole issue just felt like another thing that was out of my control that was going to greatly affect my daughter.
I am so so thankful for this community. You guys are great.
If you want to read the email I can redact it and either put it in a comment or pm you.
I hope everyone has a great day!
ETA: I see grammar mistakes but I am too tired to fix it. 🫠 I feel like I could sleep for a week.
This blazing star has been a powerhouse for attracting butterflies. They specifically enjoy the meadow blazing star. I have a butterfly at each of my patches almost 24/7
My child has ASD ADHD and is going into first grade. In kindergarten she was in a in an inclusive classroom with push in support. I think she was originally put in a classroom that had no push in support but the day of orientation I got a call from the head of ESE and she suggested, based on our conversation about my daughter, that she would do better in the inclusive class with push in support from and ESE education facilitator. I agreed. My daughter struggled a lot throughout the year. She started working with the teacher and the ESE facilitator and by the end of the year went from a level 2 in reading to a level 4 on the state testing in reading. Her math score stayed the same at a 2 which is below grade level. Originally this test was used to decide that she didn't need help anymore. I pushed back at this notion.
Now I am being told that because they didn't write the push in support on the IEP so she is not entitled to these services. The same services that helped her slight improve toward the end of the year. I made it clear that no one said that this help needed to be on the IEP to continue with them. I told them I feel like we are playing a board game and they are the only one with the rules. I asked her (ESE Support Specialist at the school) who dropped the ball on this and she was silent. I also realized she is due for her 3-year re-evaluation by the psychologist and no one scheduled it or mentioned it. Any time I asked for an accommodation to be put in the IEP I was told "oh we already do that for the kids." I am guessing this was said because she was in the inclusive class. Well now they are trying to throw her into the gen-ed class with no support and want to see her fail before they offer help. She already struggles emotionally and what little confidence she has developed in her abilities will be gone if she isn't able to keep up in the gen-ed class. With her ridged way of thinking I feel like building that confidence back up will not be an easy road.

This is for paid substack subscribers but I felt like this could be a good opportunity for those who are still on the fence about rearing. Here is the link to his substack.
For the monarchs!! And all the other little cutie caterpillars and pollinators as well 🥰
I watched two monarchs laying eggs then found 10 eggs on the leaves afterwards so I'm guessing there were already some here laying eggs earlier too. I'm new to this sub by the way. Hi everyone!
I saw a single monarch visit a couple weeks ago but couldn’t tell if she laid eggs or not. I guess she did!
Found 3 cats on my year 2 swampy boi this AM. While we were looking at all the bugs & plants in my garden, mama monarch came flying in & was scouting the plants for a good place to drop eggs. My partner actually got weepy bc he was so thrilled.
I have several Buttonbushes (Cephalanthus occidentalis) planted in the yard, and decided a few years ago to keep these 2 trimmed to look like small trees. I really like the look and they serve as a nice entrance way to the back yard. All of ones in our yard are planted in clay soil - not in a wet area like you often read about. The bees have been all over the blooms this year so far, but the butterflies are late to the game. The first photo is from today and the butterfly photos are from previous years.
