Long haul trip - should I be worried about elevation change?

I’m moving from coastal Washington state to Minnesota. I have had good luck with my car and frequently drive it about 200-250 miles in a day. This trip would be 1800mi. I’ve heard of people having issues with elevation change on long road trips through the Rockies but don’t remember what the cause was. I leak a bit of oil but know to keep an eye on it. I’m between driving the car or trailering it behind a U-Haul. Let me know what you think!

Solid property management company to rent a house?

My wife and I are moving to the area in the next month and finding a rental online has been challenging. We would like to rent a house or townhome, but some of the property management companies we’ve called have seemed a little sketchy. Does anybody know of a decent property management company to apply through? Private landlords are typically better but hard to find.

Suspect somebody needs help? Ask politely and offer a hand

Walking around town today and a guy was sleeping on a park bench. Asked me if I could help him move his legs and help cover him up with more blankets. His blankets were covered in pee and his legs were swollen. I helped him get comfy and left. I realized walking away that he was probably diabetic. I went back and said I wanted to check on him, and then asked if he was diabetic. Sure enough, he was. I asked if he had insulin foremost, in case I needed to run and fill a pen off my script. He said he had good insulin and just did his shot, but asked for food. I went to a restaurant to get him a burger but the server took forever. By the time I got back, he was going low but had a friend to watch out for him. He and his friend were grateful. I trust they would have figured it out without me, but I think it’s good that we watch out for each other. Our doctors and in some cases, friends and family, don’t always know what to look out for. If you know your condition well enough to recognize it in somebody else, please offer to help out. I know that if I were in his shoes, it would be nice to know that somebody else cared. Diabetes is rough but we can make it a little less painful when we work together.

I think I know why this sub is getting flooded with FUD

I’m going to be one of the first to admit it. I felt like I was late to the party and stocks like MU and SNDK had already run. I believe in the memory shortage thesis and expected them to stay stable for the most part, but felt like the access to the SKHY ADR might propel the ETF. I’ll admit what I think a lot of the FUD’rs are afraid to. I didn’t buy shares. I waited until the first pullback on the 2nd and bought deep ITM calls for the 17th. I hoped for a 10-15% gain on the share price, which in turn would allow me to buy some shares with the profit and have a lower up front cost. The problem with short dated calls is that shit can go sideways, fast. And it did.
I think the reason that we’re clogged down with “why price down, Korean market done did me dirty posts” is because a lot of people had the same idea as me: Hop in on a pullback and plan to exit on the ADR pump. I typically cut my losses at 35% but even I’m sitting here in a 55% hole, loaded up on hopium, debating rolling or exercising.
With the COL and typically shit wages available, more people than ever have turned to trading (gambling in this case) as a source of extra income. I believe a lot of folks overspent because they saw a one way ticket to moon town, but now they’re realizing the moon was more of a plumbers crack in the short term. Then they come here with their rabbling about how the Koreans are dumping all of our progress. They’re not worrying about next year’s price because their calls expire Friday. Long term investors are annoyed because it’s a speed bump in the scheme of things, and the gamblers aren’t willing to say they gambled because the long term guys will make fun of them.

Anyways,
TL;DR: I gambled and knew the risk I signed up for. I don’t think others did, which is why there’s so much FUD.
Apologies for making another dumb post in the noise, just thought I’d help shed some light in case y’all hadn’t deduced the same thing.

Moving to the area in August. Where are some good areas to buy a house?

Just like the title says! I got a new job in the area and would like to buy a house. Our price range is up to $350k. We want something that is walkable to food and a grocery store but that’s not the most important. We mainly just want a place that’s safe and good for kids when the time comes. If anybody has recommendations, please let me know!

Anybody else have this problem?

Was sitting at 140 for a while when I woke up. Went for a run and dropped into the 80s. Made a chicken sandwich, didn’t really spike me much. Later, I ate a gyro with a small pita (Costco). Only real carbs were from the bread (maybe 1-2g from the tzatziki sauce). I popped up to 200 before I did 1 unit of my fast acting. Ate a bowl of Catalina crunch cereal since I knew this might happen. Still dropped down about 140 points in about an hour.

I’m in this weird boat where I’m extremely insulin sensitive, but lowering my basal at all makes me spike really high the next day. I’d worry about increasing it because I do have random lows even on days that I don’t run or use short acting.

I’m wondering if anybody else gets these crazy whiplashes with such small adjustments. I only ran 3 miles today. One mini pita caused a 130 point spike, while one unit counteracted a bowl of cereal and still dropped me 150 points. I’m on generic lispro which I believe is a pretty low strength. I know the goal is to stay in range but it feels like quantum physics with that kind of drop from 1 unit.

AITAH for not removing my dog from an area when my neighbors aggressive dog comes around?

I live in an apartment complex with a lot of dogs. My dog is a 1yo Weimaraner male who is not neutered. Our vet doesn’t want to neuter him until 2yo because he is on track to be huge and she thinks it will stunt him physically and emotionally. My neighbor has a 4yo mixed dog who apparently has a problem with un neutered dogs. Our first intro, the dog drug her across the field while she screamed. My dog didn’t react, just ran to me. She (angrily) told me he has a problem with un neutered dogs and if I got my dog fixed, he wouldn’t have a problem. Her dog does get along with other dogs so I think she’s right. However, now when I’m out in the field with my dog and she comes along with hers, it’s almost like she expects us to leave. We don’t leave and she just stands there with her dog rearing up and barking, struggling to control him. She gives dirty talks and grunts audibly in frustration. There’s other potty areas and even a dog park she can go to. I just don’t feel like we need to move when her dog is the aggressive one. My dog doesn’t even pay him any mind. I plan to neuter my dog when he’s the right age but don’t think it’s a huge deal because of his age. Should I be moving away when she comes along? Is it really wrong to have a 1yo un neutered dog at the vets recommendation?

T1D - My 1 year review

A year ago today, I was diagnosed with T1D at 30 years old. My finger stick glucose was 620 and my A1C was >14. I’m a 5’10 male and got down to 115lbs. The clinic discharged me to the ER and told me to call my parents to say goodbye just in case. The ER confirmed DKA but luckily were able to reverse it.

The next morning, I was supposed to return to the clinic but reception didn’t get the memo and had me follow up the next day. In the meantime, I was unable to get instructions on how to use my insulin and relied on the pharmacist who cared for her diabetic mom. YouTube helped. I also joined this forum.

Within 2 days, I nearly lost my vision completely. I got the highest prescription readers available at Walmart and hit the optometrist. Luckily no signs of retinopathy and my vision returned to normal within two weeks as my glucose stabilized.

The same day I lost my vision, I took up running again - something I’d had to stop a few months prior due to my symptoms (legs seizing up, losing my voice and vision after running, general weakness, and a 230bpm after the first mile). Running after getting on long acting insulin saved my ass. Additionally, I was eating only raw vegetables and meat for the first several months in. I’d been vegetarian for the previous 10 years, so it was a bit of a compromise to stay alive.

The wait for an endo in my area was 100 days. Getting on service with her was a huge relief, but the in between period was terrifying. The best help I got was here on Reddit, so seriously thank you all for sharing knowledge and showing support.

Eventually, running wasn’t enough to cover everything and I needed to get on short acting insulin. I have days where I need 10 units to eat virtually no carbs, and some days I only need 1-2 units. Nothing really makes sense, but at least situations are starting to rhyme and I’m better prepared. I think I’m also still honeymooning a bit.

1 year later, I’m mostly back to normal life with a few changes. I don’t eat pasta or most baked goods, and I also limit myself to a bite or two of candy when I do. I probably could have more of those things but I like to keep my insulin resistance down. I still run quite a bit and have even started placing in local races.

Overall, I’d say that diabetes improved my life. For years, I had terrible heartburn and intermittently had all of the symptoms associated with DKA. I think my pancreas just failed gradually, and very slowly. Anytime I went to the doctor, they just said I had IBS and called it a day. When the meds didn’t work, they just told me to stop drinking coffee (as if). Now, I feel 100x better despite all of the changes. I finally gained a few pounds so my pants fit without a cinched up belt. I don’t mind injections anymore, it just is what it is.

Some of the downsides have been:
The damned beeping from CGMs. It’s like a rare form of torture trying to sleep with that thing going off all night.
Limiting pasta and pizza. My fiance has issues w low glucose and loves carbs. I wish I could eat it with her. Oh yeah and bananas, I do miss those.
Peoples’ reactions. Granted, diabetes is serious but lot of people treat me like I have cancer or aids. I know when I’m feeling shitty and I generally have the tools to fix it. Just need the occasional bit of patience if I’m in limbo from going too low or high.

One wish that I have is that there be more common education about diabetes, and more resources available for new diabetics. That initial adjustment period was brutal and nobody really prepared me. Information/pro tips were difficult to find before I joined this sub.

To new diabetics: hang in there. It’s corny to say but it really does get better. It gets worse too, but we get better at handling it and it becomes old hat. This is the best time in human history to be diabetic. Yeah, it sucks from time to time but we’re still alive although nature might have planned otherwise. And don’t forget - we’re just 5 years out from a cure! Jk, that’s a bad running joke because they’ve been saying that since at least when I was a kid. Welcome on in!

To everybody else, thanks again. You guys kick ass. Keep on doin ya thang.

TL;DR - it’s my 1 year T1D-day. It sucked for a while, but got better. Diabetes needs more awareness and education.

Front driver side CV Axel - 1990 300TE 4matic

My drivers side CV axel was rebooted land lubricated last year but the fix seems to have failed. There aren’t many options for a new part on the market - I can only find one through MB and it’s very expensive.

Surely I’m not the only one who has gone through this. Does anybody have any good ideas? My 4matic system is currently bypassed and my SLS system is empty. Does it make sense to just swap the transmission and redo the suspension at this point?

Help finding this part/number - 1990 300TE 4Matic

I’m not super familiar with suspension, so looking to find the name and part number. I believe something is leaking which is causing a popping noise. My cv was just rebooted and resealed in decent condition last year and still looks good. This piece is all wet making me think it’s leaking/failing. It did rain yesterday, but the rest of the car has dried off. It is possible that it’s from another leak dripping down but thought this was a good place to start.

A few pics of my late lady, Ringo. Almost 14 great years together.

She passed nearly 3 years ago and not a day goes by that I don’t think about her. I’ve only posted her here the day that she passed, but want to share pics from her younger years as well.
