I'm trying to use VLC's file conversion feature to convert movies into AVI files that my portable DVD player can play. Is there a way to do it without it coming out like complete garbage and muted?

I am an average level of tech literate. Never converted a video file before. I have a DBPower ZC-06 portable DVD player that lets you play video files off a flash drive with strict limitations.

Files must be AVI, and they must have a maximum horizontal resolution of 720. I don't know why a machine that came out in 2021 can only play a video file format from the early 90s but whatever. I can put up with a lowered resolution.

Using Google I figured out how to convert some TV episode files just fine, but they didn't need resizing. Now I'm trying to convert this 1080p 2.5gb MP4 file and this is the result. Horrendous artefacting and no sound. Did I do something wrong? Or should I just use more specialised software for this?

I should point out that this is an incredibly basic HP 14s-dq3xxx laptop with a 1.10GHz processor, 4gb RAM and maximum 12gb of harddrive space if I delete everything. Brand new and already the slowest computer I've ever used. Anyway, can anyone offer advice?

Is there a way to turn off the notifications for those stupid live sales that I will never use?

While I'm complaining, all of those live sellers using their downright hideous AI generated images has completely ruined the aesthetic of the app and made it look gross and cheap. Good job on that one, ebay

Is it normal for the D-pad to be this unresponsive?

Just bought this. I'm not really happy with how the D-pad just doesn't register inputs unless I press down hard. If I'm pressing it hard enough to make it 'click', then it should be registering inputs, no? No direction is as responsive as I'd like, but down and right are particularly unresponsive. Diagonal inputs don't work almost at all!

I've looked for other posts with this problem and there's quite a few here. One guy said once he opened it up and switched the rubber membrane with the one under the face buttons then the issues went away. Another guy said that he opened his device up and had trouble putting it back together again. I am not especially confident opening the device myself.

Is this what it's like for everybody or should I return it to the seller and get another one? This issue really sucks the fun out of playing these games honestly.

I couldn't see anything about fixing this in the troubleshooting guide.

UK - can anyone help me burn CDs and DVDs for my kid's devices? Paid of course. I'll provide files

I have a lot of digital media purchases but my kids have no internet access much of the time. It would be good if I could put a few things on disc for their portable players. Happy to pwr per disc and have them posted to me. If someone is open to doing it more in the future that's even better. All for personal use and all media I've already purchased. Would be much appreciated

What are some titles that are just not worth it on VHS?

I'm building a pretty robust collection but I'm at the point where I need to start thinking about which tapes are too much of a compromise.

For example the pan and scan version of The Good, The Bad And The Ugly. The original film is in super wide-screen so isn't a 4:3 version cutting out 50% of the image? Can anyone who's seen it give any insight on the experience of watching it?

Also being in the UK I have to put up with often excessive cuts to films from the 70s and 80s. Many of the best horror films from the time like Evil Dead and Suspiria are cut to shreds by the BBFC, and all of Bruce Lee's films have significant cuts, with a particular intolerance for nunchaku. Of course being VHS releases from the 80s and 90s, all of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan's VHS releases are dubbed without exception. Some of these films mentioned do have very late release wide-screen or uncut editions, though generally with boring cover art or lacking the retro charm since they were released in the early 2000s alongside identical DVD releases.

Going in to the movie blind today. Any particular clips I should watch in advance?

The film is finally showing in London after months of seeing people in North America rave about it. I've never seen the showand taking someone else who has never heard of it. Are there any YouTube videos that we should check out beforehand to get the big in jokes or understand the premise? I could maybe watch one whole episode if I have time but clips are probably better. Thanks

All Google calendar events totally gone on both app and web

I'm really not sure what happened. All events past and future are gone. I signed into the web version and they aren't there either. They're not in the trash. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks
