Selfmade Pair No.9, 16oz Double Black, Double Front Workpants

This was a fun pair of pants to make, that will replace my current pair at the end of the month. The Indigo Invitational was a good time this year and but I'm looking forward to getting into something new.

For this pair I decided to give some decorative fashion stitching a try. My recently inhereted Singer 306K has pattern cams that allow the zigzag function to produce running embroidery. It took a bit of experimenting but the results are more than pleasing. The thread is glow in the dark for that extra little detail and interest.

The other major change was translating the back yoke seam up 1" to better position the shaping over my butt. This also allowed the front pocket to line up with the yoke for a nice visual line when viewed from the side.

Some smaller details were extending the front fly another inch and adding one more button to better distribute the tension. The fly also features some new reinforcement stitching that spreads the forces back into the warp rather than along the bias, to reduce deformation of the placket.

Other major details are:

- 16oz Sulphur x Reactive Black Denim from KS Denim Mill

- B92 UV bonded polyester thread

- A crotch rivet

- Hidden cardholder pocket

- Thigh pockets

- Integrated bagless front pockets

- 9 loops with an integrated key hanging loop

- Crotch Gusset

This was sewn on my Singer 306K and Sailrite Fabricator in my studio at home. The pattern and design were all done by me.

My Latest Pair of Double Front Workpants

I decided it was time to make myself another pair of workpants with the Indigo Invitational soon coming to a close.

I used 16oz Sulphur x Reactive Black Denim from KS Denim Mill, which uses extra long staple cotton and a uniquely dense weave. The fabric is luxurious and soft to the touch but lasts 30% longer than typical short staple denim.

The few changes I made to the design involved redrafting the yoke and back panel to move the seam up an inch, and lowered the front pocket edge to line up with that seam. It's a small change but it makes for a nice visual continuation when viewed from the side.

Between making my last pair and these, I inherited my Grandma's singer 306K which happens to have Fashion Stitch Disc Cams. These allow the zigzag function to stitch decorative patterns and add embellishment. After a bit of practice I decided to add a bit of it to the horizontal seams on this pair. The thread is glow in the dark and has an orange glow.

Features that did stay were:

- a crotch gusset

- thigh pockets

- bagless front pockets

- hidden top button

- a key loop

- crotch rivet

- butt darts

- sweetheart yoke

- 9 belt loops

The pants fit tight right now but they will relax eventually once I have a chance to break them in.

The Cow 🐄

My Impulsor is named "The Cow" so I decided to paint it up like one. The specific breed is Nelore Pintado, which features vertical splotches of varying sizes.

I still have to paint the details but the main camo work is done.

A Lite Version of my Pitcher Disc Pack

This is a lite version of my Pitcher Pack that a lot of people were asking for. It removes a lot of the extra pockets that most players do not need to save time, material, and cost. The pack still retains the water bottle holders, sturdy tie down/clipping points, removable straps, and 18 disc capacity.

This is also a great option for anyone looking to haul 12 discs and still have space for their jacket, snacks and beverages in the middle of the pack.

It's made from 13.5 oz waxed canvas and now features a 1200D Cordura bottom panel for added durability. The seams are sewn with B92 UV bonded polyester along with heavy duty polyester webbing to resist degradation in the sun. The weight comes in at 1lb 15oz or 875g, which is super light for a backpack.

The packs are designed, patterened, and sewn by me in my fabric studio. All work is guaranteed for life, and I will repair or rebuild damaged bags should they need it. Custom and made to order options are also available for a small mark up.

The packs are named after the carnivorous Pitcher Plant which features a similar shaped leaf lid to shed rainwater.

My First Three Disc Backpacks Are Finished

After a hard month while dealing with health issues I am happy to announce that I have my first three bags in Sapphire and Charcoal completed and up for sale. This took much longer than expected but I'm on the mend and improving.

https://terraseraph.squarespace.com/store/p/pitcher-disc-pack

The packs hold 18-20 discs, eight in the side pockets, four in the interior pockets, and six to eight placed in the middle. If you wish to carry more discs for field work or travel, there's the option to stack up to 22 discs like pancakes in the center, and 6 more in the outer pockets.

The design also accommodates two large waterbottles, chalk bags, range finders, wallets, keys, disc retrievers, flashlights, score cards, pens/pencils, mini discs, and more. There's four clip points at the rear of the bag for carabiners, and lashing the pack to a cart.

They're made from durable 13 oz waxed canvas and use heavy duty polyester strapping and thread. The padding is neoprene foam for longevity and much needed wax/oil resistance.

For this run, I took the time to refine more of the features and added the option to remove or replace the straps. As I make more I will seek to improve as much as I can with feedback and my own testing. I cannot thank the disc golf community enough for their helpful suggestions while I was developing this backpack.

More colours and options will be available soon.

Happy disc golfing!

What even is my normal state of being?

It's been 12 days and I'm finding myself questioning what even is the normal state of being that I'm moving towards? After 18 years of daily use, I'm really not sure what my potential is and how much higher I'm going to keep rising.

The first week was like a grey filter had been placed over my world. Not even in my deepest depression was my world so dim and colourless. Each day felt like two and nothing sparked any joy, motivation was nothing. It wasn't until day 7 that some colour started to seep back into my life, and since that point it's been a steady rise. This experience has been enough to swear myself off of weed forever.

I had one of the best days I've ever had with my partner on the weekend and I am so happy that I experienced it sober. We played disc golf, had an excellent lunch, watched the European Open, went to a friend's birthday party in the evening and finished off the night with a beautiful drive through the countryside. Bliss 😊

My world feels so bright now and each day feels better and better. I'm not sure what my normal is but if it's more and more of this then I will be looking forward to the coming months of recovery.

D10 Squids Mindless Masses feels far too easy

I'm not even a great player at this game and MM feels so easy. I wish there was about 100% more flesh blobs and harvesters. Even then it would feel like it was just barely a challenge. I've started to bring the dumbest load outs just to have fun and mess around.

I want it to feel like Halo Flood on Legendary where you had to be SWEATY to get through the mission.

Is 11th over-tuned for large wound models and heavy ranged units?

The issue with it currently is that any piece of terrain becomes a bunker for heavy units now.

Issues I see:

-Can't shoot through terrain to hit the tank behind, but they can toe in on their turn and shoot out of it.

-Heavy is 3" move, which means there's not even a penalty for moving your large ranged tanks.

-Large Flying units can jump over buildings to get easy staging.

-Pivot penalty is no more.

-Infantry has had Cover nerfed by stripping the bonus away if one model is exposed.

-Factions can reduce detection range or ignore cover bonuses with enhancements, abilities, and stealthy lone op units.

-Transports dying now kills a good portion of the units inside.

I was really hoping that 11th would make infantry less prone to getting a squad wiped from the opponent getting cheesy angles on a single model but it's gone the other way instead. Hull spam seems like it's going to be horrific, and any armies that have lots of tanks with good shooting will be the meta.

Am I missing something or is this going to be the case for this edition?

Black Nephrite Jade/Actinolite? Fraser River, BC

I picked these up on a Fraser River gravel bar in Chilliwack, BC.

Mohs 7-8, totally opaque with pale green swirls on a black-green background, appears to be metamorphic. Leaves a pale green mineral streak. non-magnetic. Hard glassy sound, very dense, very tough/resistant to fracture. River polishes to low gloss.

They seem too hard for sepentine, yet isn't translucent like jade, even when thinned out. The darker of the two stones could be Aphantic Basalt?

Any ideas would be helpful.

Changing my throwing form later in life was hard but not impossible

Over the last month or so I've been working on totally changing my throwing form, and it's been a lot of work doing drills to form the proper muscle memory. I'm 35 this year and my body certainly doesn't learn things as quickly, but it's still possible to make a huge amount of improvement.

When I started throwing discs 2 months ago I was muscling the disc a lot, throwing nose up, and not getting much more than 290 feet of distance. My arm and shoulder was sore and hurting after throwing, which wasn't a great feeling. Something had to change because putting more effort in wasn't generating significantly different results.

At first I watched a series with Bodanza and Drew Gibson on form work and honestly it didn't teach me much. It wasn't until I came across Overthrow, Nick Krush, and BlitzDG on youtube that I found advice that actually worked. The Ultimate Drill, Swirly Bird, Reaper, looking back, and one leg throwing were critical to informing my body of what that correct form actually was. Over throw helped me massively by giving advice on improving nose angle by adjusting my grip.

At the start of practicing and drilling, my playing took a massive hit, spraying discs all over the place, not getting much consistency, and generally not making as many shots as I used to. It took a full month of form work before I started to see real improvement while playing. So if you're on your own journey, be patient and trust the process.

I'm currently throwing 330+ feet stand still now, my nose angle is down, my shoulder doesn't hurt, and accuracy has slowly started to come back. Today I actually made par on a decent number of holes which was so encouraging after putting in the effort. The best part is that I feel like there's so much more potential in my throwing that I can still gain. My body is still learning this new form and I think I'm only going to gain more distance and speed as time goes on.

At some point I stopped having to think about my throw, which is probably the biggest part of improving consistency. I don't think it's possible for our brains to think and react fast enough change anything about a throw once it's been initiated. The throw happens in less than a second, so the only thing our brain can do is mess up the end of the throw that the body is trying to accomplish. This is why drilling the correct movements into your muscle memory is so important, thinking can't help you or is an active detriment.

I hope this is encouraging or helpful for someone. I cannot express enough gratitude to u/blitzl0l for all the form videos and making me believe that I could throw over 300 feet from a stand still.

Second time quitting, starting today. The hot and cold sucks.

I used weed almost daily for 15 years and despite finding the will to quit 4 years ago I got pulled back in thinking I had the self control to regulate. Turns out that's a lie and after finding myself in the same pattern of heavy use it was time to quit.

Today I'd forgotten about the physical symptoms which is why I'm here in this sub right now. Hot and cold all day with my digestive tract feeling quite upset. Knowing I'm not sick and it's just from quitting has helped ease my mind. It's only fair that after fucking with my system for this long debts must surely be paid.

Quiting sucks but I need to change something in my life because getting stoned all day isn't productive. I have a project I need to work on, people who want my talents, and a dream that I should work towards. I don't think it's possible to achieve what I want if I was to carry on the way I was.

My mind is clearer today than it has been in a long time. Hopefully this continues and I can find some energy between the hot and cold flashes. I miss the high but this clarity of mind is more valuable and encouranging.

Use Multiple Quasars/Laser Cannons During Defense Missions

During missions where you're holding a position, it can be well worth deploying multiples of the cooldown based support weapons as they become available again. There's no limit to how many you can have on the ground near you. So by cycling through them as they're on cool down, you can double or triple your fire power. It takes a little bit of practice but feels so satisfying when you get into the rhythm of picking up the next weapon.

It makes bot drops more forgiving, and missing your first quasar shot on a heavy doesn't punish you as much. The laser cannon can be fired almost indefinitely once you have three of them.

This method works even better on cold planets and is a fun little mini game to play on those long boring missions. Hope this was useful.

My 8 year old micro bogs

These were started in 2018 and have been thriving ever since. I used large stainless steel bowls and wedged in western red cedar batons to create "logs" for the plants to grow in. Between the sticks I rammed in peat moss and capped it off with fresh live sphagnum moss. The bowls are always kept topped off with water.

Once established I sprinkled in seeds and waited a very long time before the tiniest of plants showed up. And now when they flower each year I sprinkle more seeds down.

The trees are incredibly stunted in growth, growing little more than an inch or two a year. There's zero added nutrients except for the rotting needles, rotting wood, and flying insects that meet a sticky demise.

The moss protects the sundews in winter and the sundews shade the moss in summer. The sundew seeds sprout easily in the moist/humid moss and find water through the gaps in the wood.

All I do is add water to the bowls and pick out the occasional weed that starts to sprout.

The Final Version of my Homemade Disc Pack

Here's the final version of my disc golf back pack, made from 13 oz waxed canvas. This design project has been a long one over the last month and a bit, but it has evolved into something worthy of that effort. Three prototypes, lots of helpful feedback and testing, produced numerous changes and improvements. I am proud of this bag and feel like it's ready to put into other people's hands.

It's been upgraded from a 16 disc capacity to now hold 22 in play mode, or a staggering 30 discs when stacked for field work. This was accomplished by widening the front of the pack by 2 inches, increasing the storage volume by 30%. 4-6 Putters can now sit in the middle for easy access, which has greatly improved the flow of play.

To make room inside, the disc retriever/flashlight spot was duplicated and moved to the side of the water bottle holders. Both holders were also fully redesigned to improve durability and hold up to 32oz vacuum bottles.

Much of the rest of the pack is the same as previous versions, with dedicated pockets for most of what you need on the course:

  • mini discs pocket under the handle

  • double upper pockets for wallets, keys, and trinkets

  • pen and pencils up front

  • a phone holder built into the lid

  • utility pockets for range finders, chalk bags, and sunscreen

Lastly the bag features 4 sturdy clip points to attach accessories or lash the bag to a cart. Padding is provided by neoprene closed cell foam that resists moisture and has a soft but firm feel.

Total dry weight for the bag is 2lb 3oz or 1kg, which is ultra light for a back pack.

In the coming week(s) I will have a small number of these bags ready for purchase on my website in Garnet Red and Sapphire Blue. The price will be similar to other premium bags of this capacity on the market. I am a one person studio trying to make my first real product, so I ask to please be patient and understanding.
