My Third Prototype Backpack

This will likely be my last set of major design changes for this back pack design. What remains is cosmetic refinement and minor order of operation changes.

-Five more pockets were added to the backpack and most of the others were adjusted for more space and less distortion of the panels. Two upper interior pockets for wallets and keys, a phone pocket in the lid, and two side pockets suitable for chalk, range finders and more.

-Side straps now secure the lid, discs, and sidepockets when in travel mode, but also fold away when in play mode.

-Side loops are now added to help secure the bag to a cart should it be needed.

-A stronger handle design was introduced using webbing and a non integrated design.

-Foam padding was added to the back panel for comfort.

This might be my perfect bag for disc golf, it holds everything I need and more. The light weight makes for an easy haul, which I appreciate, as the last thing I want is for it to feel like a burden. Having only 12 discs to choose from feels very focused and what discs make the cut is always a question before I leave home. So while I might long for more, I find that I have enough shot shapes with backhand and forehand to get through a round.

I am still waiting for my materials to come in to make a waxed canvas run. I am considering buying some Cordura to make a "tactical" style bag too. Wine Red, Blue and Charcoal will be the first colours that are made.

Happy disc golfing <3

Clara Praesidium Phobos Librarian

This guy took forever to paint and assemble, lots of flowing robes, lots of bits covering other bits. On top of that I chose White as my primary army colour, so shading is tedious. The regrets start to fade when I see the finished scheme though.

I do not want to make another one of these dudes, as cool as the pose is.

APWD is complex, profound, and familiar all at once

As someone who loves every piece of music this band has released, this album is a genuine treat. It feels like sumation and evolution of their sound, with parts of it referencing past albums and adding another dimension to them. There's so much to unpack with this album that it feels like an ocean in its depth. I am in awe at breadth of genre and flavours that they have put into this music.

The concept of loneliness is a strong topic to confront, it's something everyone can relate to, and often not talked about enough. When I reach A Pale White Dot, I'm usually close to tears, even though the song has no lyrics. I don't understand it but the emotion that Mark put into the melody hits hard.

I love this album, and I love this band.

Starting with a loose reach back then griping the disc into the pocket gets me a much tighter coil and a straighter disc path. Am I doing this right?

I've been noticing that if I start with a loose grip and pull the disc with my grip strength into my forearm for the first half of the throw, that I get an immediate boost in velocity for very little work. It combats the rotation and centrifugal forces that would pull the disc out of the pocket, and critically adds a brief accelerating force at the very tip of my arm to prevent it from collapsing. The movement also naturally pops my elbow out and pulls the disc further inside my body, basically under my armpit. If done right the disc almost feels like it rebounds out of the coil into the second half of the throw. This feels like free energy that I can add to accelerate the disc early in the throw and it also improves my form.

The discs have never ripped out of my hands faster or with as much spin, of course my timing and accuracy are all thrown off, but I suspect that can be worked out with some slow drilling. I wouldn't use this for slower throws but it sure adds distance to my high power drives.

My question is this even right and worth practicing or adding to my throw?

After using the first version for a few trips, I decided that it was already time for a second version. It needed:

- more water bottle spots

- deeper lower pockets

- an entire reshape of the bottom of the bag

- rubber feet

- places for markers and pens

- an enlarged top pocket for mini disc

- cushioned straps

- expanded disc catcher/umbrella/flashlight holder

- lower turn buttons for the lid

- more efficient pattern pieces

- revised carry handle

Nearly every part of the back pack has been improved and worked on but there's still more things I would like to do with the design. It needs a stiffer, more durable, water proof fabric, which will be Waxed Canvas. I would also like to make an optional rain fly pattern that will attach to the twist buttons and shield the pack from getting too wet in the rain. I am trying my best to design and make a bag that will last for many years and is worth repairing if it ever does have a failure.

What I love about this back pack is that everything is first order access when in "play mode". There's no zippers, flaps, or velcro between you and the item you want to grab. There's also the fact that it's easy to count discs before you leave the area. Eight discs outside and four inside has been just fine even with two people using two sets of discs in one bag.

If you're seeing threads, It's because I didn't bother with internal seam finishing as it's a bunch of work that doesn't need to be done on a prototype.

I'll be off to test out this pack today. See you out there on the course!

I just started disc golfing two weeks ago and quickly found that carrying discs in my shoulder bag was going to get too heavy. I also needed something that wouldn't fall over when placed on the ground, so a triangular design was chosen.

Then with some helpful suggestions over on Facebook, I added a water bottle holder, phone pocket for filming, disc retriever holder, and plenty of internal space for a shirt and some snacks. This seems to cover pretty much everything I've needed so far except for a towel to wipe off discs, rainfly to keep it dry, and a key ring clip that I'm going to work into the design.

Hopefully after a few more rounds I'll have a bunch of improvements to make on the bag. Then I can start a second version in waxed canvas to increase the weather resistance, and cut down on the materials needed to make a stiff bag.

Part of me wants to call it "The Pitcher" because it resembles a Pitcher plant.

Any constructive criticism and feedback would be great. I used it today and already have so many small tweaks to make.
