Fired up the grill for some hawkdogs

Pouring rain here in Alberta. Wife kept saying “no don’t do it” but I could see the longing in her eyes for my meat. It’s pouring like crazy here. Totally worth it. I love my jumbo Joe.

Ordered my first proof!

I am still working through line edits, I’m like 98% there. But I needed to see how images would print inside the book (maps, images, etc) so this is a very early proof. So excited. This is becoming real……..I am scared to look too closely when it comes!!

Oh my god!

Printing full page images via KDP/IS

Hey there. I have made artwork that will end up being full page and full bleed opposite my chapter heads. It’s 1 colour/grayscale and will be higher contrast, not really meant to be perfect. This is to show a map and some illustrations I have put together for my story.

Has anyone done this before? If so, would you be able to comment and show samples? I’ll order my own samples but thought I could open a discussion first.

I had surgery but I can still start my car

Cammed with MMX Max Effort v1, long tubes and no cats. Tune by Mario, what a legend. I’m not doing so well. But at least I can start my car. Life can come at you sideways very quickly. Cherish the moments. I’m not done yet.

This could be my greatest work ever.

And by ‘work’ I mean sitting in a chair long enough to get an award for sitting in a chair.

Ok. A little help here if someone has time.

I’m fairly certain all I have to do is trim off the bad piece of pipe and put a new extension in similar to what was previously there. Is that right? I think the pipe integrity down into the ground below the break is solid.

Grateful for any advice or help. Thank you in advance.

My six year old daughter and I got to work tonight! Waiting for it to cycle before we go bearish shopping.

Am I done? Nope. There’s more. There’s always more. Hah. I am proud of this one though.

Quick check-in from the trenches from today.

Eight versions. 95,000+ words. Years in. Working with a professional editor who just delivered her final summary notes...which means the end is actually in sight.

And I am absolutely wrecked. Last third needs adjustments, then a full review pass, then line edits. On paper, that's not much. In practice, with a job and a family and a brain that's been living inside this manuscript for years- it feels enormous.

For those of you who finished and/or self published- what got you through the last stretch? What did you tell yourself when the tank was empty?

I don't want to screw this up after thousands of hours. I just need to hear from people who made it to the other side.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions so far on my project. Really happy wit progress and to share updates.

Bought some steel shot but found out I had enough pennies at home. Bagged them and will secure them soon. Maybe end up gluing them in. Seems to be at the right water level for now. Far less ventilation from the props now when running. (Might be listing just a hair, but I am thinking I was just impatient for the photo waiting for it to settle. Hah!)

Ballast:

5lbs 5oz battery in front centre

3lbs penny bag between prop shafts

1lbs 1oz penny bag at stern (might play with placement when running unless anyone here has insight to best placement)

Total model weight with ballast and battery is 17lbs.

Need to tidy things up and secure everything down with a more organized table of some sort. Also need to secure the deck and superstructure/rear deck hatch (will use silicone and prolly elastics, will sort that out later)

I accidentally reversed i to the tub wall and the rudder arm flipped, the rod I am using had enough flex to bend it. Might need to strengthen this….or just not reverse into anything. Still need to adjust placement as rudders are not 100% aligned yet. They turn and respond just fine.

And lastly I have a leak somewhere. 95% sure it’s from the bow thruster tunnel- could be my makeshift foam plug or the printed pla is too thin there. Not sure. Will try a new plug and if that doesn’t do it, then epoxy the whole tunnel area perhaps.

Just waiting for a slip tube to cover the oiling holes in the stuffing tubes.

Going to need quite a bit of ballast for this guy to get down to the proper water line. Thinking of cutting up a broken axle I have from my car and using those as weights before I spend a load of money on lead shot/epoxy. Not exactly sure how much weight I will need, it’s gotta be more than 10lbs.
