My birbfren's baby flew into my arms during our first meeting
Hi everyone! Some of you might remember me from this post https://www.reddit.com/r/pigeon/s/PBdH89YEol .
I got a little update for you!
Previous birbfren (now christened Boris) had a baby in his nest that he was feeding. Two babies actually, a nest of two, but the first one sadly didn't survive :( I guess it must have been the heatwave, but it could have been anything being realistic, from birthdefect to sickness. I always made sure there was enough seed and water nearby, and there is an abundance of greenery and lush here.
I first noticed when the nest was being plagued by flies and wasps, literally tearing apart the little body, and flying away with chunks of it. Of course irritating mom and Boris. So at that point I waited until they left the nest for a bit and I took the little corpse out. It was fully flattened from the parents still sitting on it, that was really sad to see. I have a picture but I don't feel comfortable uploading that. I don't want the lil' birbs memory to live like that in your minds.
It was the most squeakiest, yellowest, flappiest lil birbie 💞 I just wanted to take a moment and want you all to know it existed and made the world a bit more beautiful.
Today though, the other little survivor flew back home! He flew out of it's nest 1,5 week ago and I hadn't seen him since. All the while Boris came asking for seed daily, so I gotta admit I was worried. But the baby flew over today on my balcony and when I called him, he promptly landed on my leg, eyeing the seed in my hands.
I did not have to wait long and he just jumped into my arms 🥺 I read on this sub that birbs like to be squished lightly, and I know that chickens have that reflex that relaxes hem when you keep them under your neck/armpit. So I just tried to make my arms as comfy as possible, haha.
I think a big part of its trust is also because of the food I'm giving? This is just a wild speculation, but I used to feed Boris this seed and he would DIRECTLY fly to the baby and regurgitate it to feed him. So the taste must be quite comforting, I think? Thoughts welcome, haha.
Of course I've been talking with/singing to Boris a lot, so he must've heard me during these months. What a cutie. The mother flew away really quickly btw after he got bigger, is that normal? Dad Boris stuck around way longer.
I do also want to take a moment and thank u/freneticboarder for their kindness last time. It allowed me not only to buy some food for me and my cat, but also to stock up on some quality seeb ♥️💞 I am forever grateful.
