Is eating canned sardines regularly harmful?

I live on a tight budget and work long hours cannot afford expensive groceries. I like the taste of eggs and sardines and beans, and they become my main source of protein. I am pretty sure eating eggs and beans regularly is not a problem. My question is: is eating one can of sardines in either water or oil 4 or 5 times a week harmful? Thanks

What does everyone care so much about 'achievements' when life is so short and with so many unfortunate, unexpected events along the way?

Shouldn't we focus more on well-being of one another? Why give yourself and one another pressure to achieve this and that, apart from what is needed for survival?

Fairfax Financial CAD vs USD version

Is there any disadvantage in holding FFH with the USD version, versus the regular Canadian dollar version, within registered and non-registered accounts, in terms of dividends, etc? I am not interest in options, and liquidity doesn't mean much for me because this will be a long term hold. I am considering the USD version just for the convenience because most of my positions are US stocks and I want the simplicity of having only one currency in my accounts. Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge.

What are some living arrangements for single people in old age in Canada, and how should one prepare financially?

I am not single but many friends and family members are and will likely stay that way forever. Some of us can be lucky and we are relatively independent and healthy until the day we die. Others may become disabled, demented, bed-ridden for a long period of time before we go. How should people who are without direct family prepare? Say if someone is single and become disabled in old age, but he or she has say $6000 of monthly income from all sources, plus a lump sum of money in the bank or brokerage account, what is the best living arrangement and survival strategy? Is there anything the person can or should do before he or she becomes unfit?

Is going with discounted mobile services like Freedom worth it?

Location is Ottawa. Debating with my family whether going with cheaper mobile providers such as Freedom is worth it? We are not heavy phone users, but some friends told us the signal of Freedom is not as good as Rogers or Bell, particularly inside some office buildings. What's your experience with cheaper cellphone service?

Can I use 16 inch Honda alloy wheels on a 2007 CR-V?

A friend said he can give me a set of 16 inch alloy wheels from a 2016 Honda Civic for free. I want to use the set on my 2007 CR-V. Will it fit and will it clear the brake calipers? The factory OEM wheels on my CR-V are 17 inches. Thanks.

Catholic end of life ethics

I want to word this carefully so that my meaning is clear and there's no confusion. My dad passed away last year, and my mom is getting up there in age as well. My mom is Catholic and so am I. We want to follow the Church's teaching. She has multiple illnesses. She asked me if she became too sick and had no reasonable hope of recovery, can she refuse further treatment? She said she wants a more natural death when the time comes, instead of artificially kept alive by medicine even when she is unconscious or can't eat or breathe by herself naturally. What are the Church's teaching on this, is there any online documents I can read? Thank you and God bless.

Car owners: are expensive tires worth the extra money?

That is if you are on a budget. If you have money of course this is a non issue. But for the rest of us, $1200 set Michelin/Continental, or $900 set Toyo/General/Yokohama/Hankook or $700 Walmart/Canadian Tire/neighborhood shop no name brand? Are they that much different, really?

Is poor gas mileage normal for a 2007 CRV?

Inherited a low miles (50k) well maintained CRV AWD from a relative. It drives perfect with no mechanical issue. But the gas mileage in town is really bad, around 16 to 18 mpg! I live where it gets very cold in winter, and the gas mileage is constantly at 16 or 17 in winter short trips. On highway it is great at 28 or 29 mpg. I changed air filter, pcv valve, cleaned throttle body and MAF sensor, applied injector cleaners, etc, nothing improved the city stop and go gas mileage. Is this normal for this otherwise great vehicle? Thanks

Am I supposed to write anything at the back of a cheque when depositing it?

The bank's app always ask for pictures taken of both the front and the back of cheques. I never write anything at the back of the cheques, and there has never been any issues with my deposit being declined. What is the purpose of taking pictures of the back sides of cheques, when there is nothing there?

Can you completely remove back seats of a 2007 CRV without tools?

Just got a used 07 CRV. I know the backseat can be folded up towards the front, and for sure it can be dismantled with a wrench. My question is, is there a built-in way to quickly remove them with bare hands? Thanks

Beware if you are buying used tires from private parties

I found that people are ridiculously dishonest when they sell tires, seemingly more so than when they sell other stuff for some unknown reasons. First they lie about how much use the tires have seen. The tires can be 70% worn down with maybe 50,000 km on them and with dry rot and sun damage and they would say 'only used one season'. Sir there is something called tread depth gauge and I can see the condition of the tires with my eyes, you simply cannot lie about these things. The tires can have a manufacturing date of 2018 stamped right on the sidewall (look for a 4 digit number which indicates the week and the year), and they can say oh the set is only 3 years old. Tires are expensive when new, but they are not worth much when old, why lie just to gain an extra $50? People who shop for used tires are on a tight budget (like me), can you sleep at night when you try to scam them? If you know nothing about tires, please save up and buy inexpensive new tires, instead of used one. The chance of you being scammed is quite high unless you are knowledgeable.

Good to be both an investor and trader of SK Hynix

SK Hynix stock price action is actually highly predictable. Korean, German, ADR version doesn't matter. Violent drops and violent explosions upward. There are a lot of novice stock market participants in this name, particularly in S. Korea. I began as an investor in the Euro version of the stock, now I am an ADR holder. I love both and now I am an investor and trader. This thing will make you a lot of money if you are calmer than average. Best of luck.

Are no name brand cheap tires from China worth it?

Shopping for a set of new tires for my car and top brands (Michelin, Continental, etc) cost around $260 per tire, middle of the road brands (Yokohama, Uniroyal, Firestone, etc) are around $200 per. A friend told me he's always had these cheap no name brand tires from China and they work just fine. I contacted a shop and the price quoted was $120 per tire. I am a little scared and skeptical. How could the price difference be so big? Have anyone used one of those obscure brands tires from Asia? Are they worth it? Thanks

Average cost of a new windshield

My windshield on an old 2010 Honda CRV cracked and I want to install a new aftermarket one. Stores quoted me in the $400 to $450 range, which feels high, but I have no real reference point. Numbers I got from internet seems outdated. Anyone had a windshield installed lately, how much did you pay, (no calibaration of camera or sensors needed)

How best to fix a stripped transfer case fill hole?

Sorry if this is the wrong sub but I don't know where best to post it. Just bought a used 2014 Toyota RAV4. Asked my usual mechanic to change all the fluids, then he called me and said the aluminum transfer case fill hole threads are stripped by last owner and half of the threads are missing. He said he can permanently seal the plug with JB Weld as the car already has 130k miles the fresh oil he put in should last the rest of the car's life. Can JB Weld be trusted in this case? Will the plug come loose with time? What's the proper fix for this?
