Mostly web browsing, but also lighter games (for kids aged 7-10yo), video playback and streaming to TV, simpler games, no need for powerful GPU, but if possible, a dedicated GPU. Current problem is slow CPU, only 6GB ram (shared with onboard GPU), 500GB storage (at its limits). I'd prefer 16 GB ram and 1TB storage (can be 500GB fast storage for the OS and 500GB slow storage for data usage)

• Desired battery life

4 hours is plenty, laptop will be mostly plugged in.

Linux compatibility, decent CPU/RAM, dedicated GPU (simple GPU will do)

AMD GPU is generally more compatible with Linux, but open for suggestions, 60Hz screen is probably fine, but if a slightly better screen is a small price increase, that's alright. At most there will be some light gaming for kids aged 7-10 when they visit grandma.

Open to suggestions and changes, willing to spend a little bit more or less if there's valid reasons for it.

Need a 100% linux compatible laptop, price range around 1000 euro, region Belgium, but perfectly alright with buying anywhere in EU if the transport costs still keep it lower as buying locally.

Parents are getting really fed up with Windows bloat and their current PC won't work anymore in a couple months due to TPM requirements, which their PC doesn't have. They hate using their Windows PC, and love using my sister's or my Linux PC. I'm not forcing them on Linux, they're asking for it.

Use-case: Basic internet browsing, facebook games, and some extensive excel sheets for bookkeeping, these excel sheets can take over a minute to open currently, some light photo editing.

Budget: 700 euro with an extra 200 euro range. (PC-case not needed, I already have a case)

One fast hard drive for the OS (500GB), a second one that can be slower for data storage(1TB). Losing all data cause a single drive fails would be bad, they do make backups on an external drive, but they don't do it consistently, so they could lose months of data.

Dual channel 2x8GB minimum, please include the price difference for 2x16GB dual channel.

No help needed with peripherals.

No watercooling, but a decent silent air cooler.

Wifi and bluetooth onboard would be nice, but could easily be done with an USB dongle.
