Blaming billionaires or the rich instead of governments is useless

As much as we can sit here and talk about the ethics of the rich I think it’s a moot point when you consider the government. We have a long and documented history now of people with riches or power being corrupt and to expect the corrupt to change is useless. The government is the only group responsible for public well being and they have the power to increase wages, create jobs, tax the rich, fund healthcare, improve social services and other things. The people who actually have the power to make a change or operate differently aren’t and they should be getting the full extent of the blame.

Why should we pay living wage and not what labour is valued at?

In my opinion if you agree to a job then that’s about what you’re worth. For example you wouldn’t see a doctor working at mcdonalds as their time is worth more and there is no reason to work for minimum wage. But same is true vice versa those working for 30/hr are usually not worth 40/hr or they would’ve been working for more.

Should I go with an Acura integra or another daily driving?

I had a Mercedes c43 which was perfect but I ended up trading it for a 2022 sq5 on my last lease for space. I’m starting a new commute (2 hours a day) and my lease is up so I’m looking to just buy a daily that’s fun, comfortable and good on gas.

A few months ago I had a 2023 civic touring as a rental for 2 months and it was pretty nice but it felt a little basic. I’m now considering a used 2024 integra but wonder about the cvt and if it will feel slow. I don’t  need somthing quick as my old c43 but i like being able to accelerate and overtake with ease when needed.

Other options I considered are used 2025 golf R, genesis g70 or 2024 bmw x3.  But I feel the integra beats these in fuel efficiency, sound system (very important for me), reliability, looks and it’s also the cheapest option. Only cons I can find are cvt, not the best tech and I hear it has wind noise but I don’t think it will bother me as I usually have my music loud. Is the integra good for my needs or is there any other options I should consider?

Working a 9-5 or 40 hours weekly is a choice

People often complain about this reality of working 40 hours a week which I gladly do in exchange for being able to support myself. But the alternative is not death, you can live like a bum, live off family, start a business, put all your money into passive income until you don’t have to work anymore, go live in the wilderness or even do an option I didn’t list here.

Part time vs full time positions?

I’m a new grad and have been encouraged to apply for jobs through our hospitals internal job portal. I see a variety of positions but can’t decide between apply for full time to part time? Ive heard part time can make more money but I also know way things work compared to full time is different like no benefits and stuff. Is there any advantage to full time if you have access to enough shifts as part time?

How do I navigate telling my 25m family and gf 25f that I took a job in another country?

Sorry if this is long but there is a lot to this. I 25m just graduated college, im a nurse now but it took a lot to get here. Since entering school I’ve had a lot of stuff happen and I’m now 60k in debt. It’s been hard to deal with this because no one is aware I’m in debt let alone 60k and it’s been a while since I could pay my bills. To finish nursing school I couldn’t work which just further pushed the problem and I basically had to max out all my credit to finish and pay to get my license.

My previous job was as a nursing student but the day I passed my licensure exam I was terminated as once you’re registered you can’t work as a student. So to sum it up I was 60k in debt and had no job at the start of June.

Now next issue is that my mom had been thinking I will be making good money and she will start charging me $800 for rent which I obviously don’t have given my debt and no job to start the month. She had been talking about this for months and honestly she just doesn’t understand how nursing works whatsoever. On top of this my gf is talking about all this stuff regarding travel, engagement etc and again I don’t have a single dollar.

Unfortunately the job market is terrible here (Toronto) and many are waiting over a year before getting a job and I obviously don’t have a year to wait around in my position. So the only thing I could do was get a job away from home and I got offered a position in New York as a new grad where I would have to relocate. MY take home pay will be pretty good and when I transfer the USD to CAD I’ll come out significantly ahead.

Now I just told my family and gf I’ll be leaving early July last week as I thought 2 weeks was a good notice and I was scared to tell them. Anyways now everyone is very upset and saying I’m jumping into something without thinking but the reality is I’ve thought about it and see no other way out. Everyone already expects things of me financially and I can’t even support myself let alone anyone else atm. My gf has also been very upset and possibly considering breaking up but again I feel I had no option but to take this job.

Struggling to pick a good daily driver for new commute help?!

I’m coming from a 2021 C43, and looking for a daily that is nice to be inside, fun, better on gas as my commute is 90 miles daily and I spend 200 a week on gas. My biggest needs are good sound system (very important for me), adaptive cruise control, nice tech features and a nice interior. Also doesn’t have to be as quick as my last car but I’d still like to have some pep for overtaking other cars.

Currently cars that have caught my attention are Acura rdx, Acura integra, golf R or gti, genesis g70, Toyota Camry and bmw x3. So far I really like the rdx but I’m not a huge fan of the center console and no digital dash feels dated compared to all of these other interiors. My budget is 40-50k and I’m looking for new to 1-2 year old models

People who claims college isn’t worth it

These people just come off as uneducated, the notion that college is a waste of time and money is just flat out false. Statistically it’s well documented that college will increase your career earnings but even outside of that it’s common sense.

Various medial careers, finance, law etc all require degrees and will easily pay themselves off in the long run. The ones who don’t get value out of college are 9/10 times the people who took a useless major that doesn’t actually lead to a career. I don’t ever see nurses, lawyers, accountants, dentist etc saying their degree made no sense to get and didn’t lead to anything.

This is not a secret either I have many immigrant friends and their families basically force them into high paying fields as they know it’s a waste of time to pay for schooling that won’t lead to a good career. It’s really just a western thing where parents genuinely encourage their children to sign up for programs that don’t really lead to jobs.

Even when looking at my own friends, my two closest friends who have this opinion also just so happen to be my friends who are doing the worst in life career wise. One is working entry levels jobs hoping around and the other is still trying to blow up as an internet celebrity through streaming or social media and has a new idea every few months. I really wish they would just wake up and be serious.

Fun daily that is good on gas for long commute?

I just started a new job recently and my commute has gone from nothing with wfh to 140km daily and I’m averaging about $150 a week on gas alone. I have been driving a 2019 Audi sq5 the last 7  years which is getting up there in mileage and isn’t so great on gas.

So now I’m in the market for a new daily that’s better on gas but still kinda  fun to drive and I’m torn on what to get. So my options so far are either brand new or 1-2 year old for the following: Golf r (concerned it won’t feel premium), Acura integra, Acura Rdx, genesis g70 or the m340i trying to stay in 50-70k range.

Really just want decent tech which I think all will have, fun to drive, top tier sound system (very important to me), awd (Canada), good on gas doesn’t have to be amazing and relatively reliable to last me next 5 yrs minimum without much issue. Are there any other notable options or should i narrow down my choices?

How to support wife after failing nclex twice?

My wife has failed the nclex for the second time just now, and I don’t know how to help her. She was so down and beat up after the first attempt and when she did it again yesterday she used up the full 5 hours almost and did 150 questions.

She is still sleeping but I saw an email from around 4 this morning informing her she did not pass. I feel so bad and I was telling her she had nothing to worry about all yesterday and before we went to sleep. Even though she expressed she felt she did poorly I just wanted to keep her spirits up.

Yesterday she broke down crying and telling me how nursing is no longer for her and she is gonna give up if she fails again and I’m so anxious about her waking up because I know it will crush her. She had her dream  job lined up on a NICU floor and everything with a conditional offer and I just don’t know how I’m gonna keep her sane when she gets up. Is there anything she can do or that could help her in this situation?

I just feel especially bad because I started nursing school years after her and I’m weeks away from my grad and I may end up taking my nclex around the same time as her. I was really hoping she could just pass cause I know she is gonna feel bad that I’m doing it the same time with her now as well. I feel like even taking about my own process now is just rubbing salt in her wounds but she was my person to talk about all this stuff with. Sorry for the rambling I just feel so shitty.

People who complain about tipping but are just cheap

This is the conclusion I came to from my own experience with these people. For starters I don’t care where you stand on tipping or what your views surrounding it are this is just about the demographic.

These people are complaining about an optional fee which doesn’t even make sense, why is it an issue for you to have the chance at paying nothing extra? Then I see all these weird arguments about how they shoudnt be paying the servers wages and would prefer price rises which is the dumbest thing I’ve heard. In this economy you mean to tell me people complaining about a fee want to just pay more? Every argument sounds dumb especially considering when you ask any server they are pro tipping vast majority of the time. The main thing this would do is lower many servers wages, I have no interest in seeing anyone make less.

Next we get to my own experience which is these people are cheap as hell. These are my friends who will go out to eat and before we even get a sever will ask the table “are you guys tipping?” because their cheap antics have started before they even get the food. Then when the food comes they begin finding every excuse in the book as to why they aren’t gonna tip and start justifying it to everyone. These cheap tactics are how every non tipper I’ve met has acted and it’s why I refuse to go out with them. It’s not even the fact that they aren’t tipping it’s that they are so embarrassed about not tipping they have to embarrass themselves trying to justify it when no one cares if you tip or not. I’ve been eating out for decades and had all types of experiences with servers and never in my life has any server asked for a tip nor have they acted any different post not getting one. The only people I’ve ever heard out of coworkers, family and friends discussing a tip is when eating out is us never the server.

Beating a deadbeat parent can be justified.

I used to have the stance that any deadbeats were just pieces of shit but as I’ve grown older I realize parenting and life are far to complex to leave it at that. Some people just aren’t in the mental headspace to be parents and would honestly do more bad than good. It’s a job at the end of the day and one people shouldn’t be forced and dragged through the mud to do.

Now again this isn’t for everyone a lot are just bad people but for some I’d say they are justified in being absent parents. One example is you have a difficult ex. The type of person who make visitation hell, is more concerned with drama than the kids, is bringing you to court, drowning you financially or worst of all the types of men and women who will make up false abuse claims to have the other parent legally punished. I just think if it gets to the point were your livelihood and freedom are at risk you have a right to excuse yourself especially if you have other kids or people to be there for.

How far is your commute?

I’m in the process of applying to jobs and things are rough out there obviously around the gta but I wanna know what’s a realistic commute. I have maybe 20 hospitals or related facilitated I could apply to as an RN that are all from within walking distance to an hour and half drive away.

I would of course love to work closer to home but i can’t guarantee that currently and want to know how far you guys are going one way to work? I’m really determined to get into mental health or surgery 2 areas I really liked in school but since positions are nit always available I’m considering maybe applying to hospitals about an hour or so away by drive each way.

Average people are more at fault than the rich for how things have become

I know I will get called a footlocker but let’s call a spade a spade how much greedier can companies get before people stop supporting them? We all complain about how evil they have become yet Amazon is still delivering to my whole street, Walmart and banks make record profits.

They treat customers and employees like shit, yet everyone just throws their hands up like “hey not my problem I’m the little guy”. Its funny how a bunch of people can storm the capital for trump but the average person cant give up supporting evil behemoths.

The people at the top screwing you over have no reason to change cause everytime they screw you you just jump back in line and throw them another $20. At what point do people just stop supporting this? Do they need to take every last cent first before people change?

Gentle parenting has resulted in worse behaved kids

I moved from nyc to Toronto in hs and both cities are very diverse I myself am white but I have many black, indian and spanish friends. Growing up most of us were beat by our parents and we turned out fine. But it didn’t just stop there because even my grandparents would hit me if need be and my friends the same.

Nowadays though with so many using gentle parenting styles kids can really just do whatever they want because there is no real consequence to their actions. They are disrespectful, preforming poor in school and just overall worse than my generation and those prior. Don’t get me wrong we had bad apples but it seems today half the children are bad apples. Only major difference is that the new age parents arent as good as their parents and it’s resulted in kids preforming poor in pretty much every area expect they have gotten better at being disrespectful and unruly.

Its gotten so bad our local amusment park which was literally a kids hangout had to ban minors from being in the park without an adult over 21 past a certain age. Keep in mind this has literally been a kids hangout for decades but over the past few years unsupervised kids have literally started destroying the park and harassing guest. Ask any teacher but the quality of kids over the last 2 decades and it’s the same story across the board.

Please help me fix my resume!!

Here is my 2 page resume. I didn’t put anything non nursing related outside of my previous education but I feel it’s still a lot of information. Does this seem like a good resume or should I make changes. Would appreciate any feedback as I just did my nclex and really need to start working asap thanks.

Someone speeding who ends up at the same red light as you isn’t a gotcha

I see this mentioned as if it’s some type of gotcha moment but it’s really not. You could be driving under the speed limit and still end up at a the same light as someone speeding. It’s really just a matter of the light being random, for every speeder that gets stuck at a red light there is another who beats it and in fact does get to their destination faster. Thanks for listening.

Should I stop pursing my auto claim after not being able to contact insurance company.

I have had an auto claim open for the last 8 months and my car is still not fixed. They returned the car to me 2 months ago but it still isn’t running properly so I brought it back and they told me they can’t fix it and to contact my insurance again. Since then it’s been 2 months, I don’t know my adjuster and I can’t contact anyone at my insurance company who can actually access my case.

Im now considering just selling my car and cancelling my insurance as I don’t want to keep calling and emailing a million people a week only to get no response. I was already having issues the entire process of the first 6 months and Im completely drained from all of this.
