Does Invasion from Bellow has any REDEEMING qualities?

Does Invasion from Bellow has any REDEEMING qualities?

Personally...

I think getting minifigure-esque versions of the characters was really awesome, and it is cool that they are compatible with System bricks. The jumping beasts (that were able to jump) were a cool toy, and I like the cocoon and the canister pieces.

I do like this gimmick of having the heroes control robots, like in Pacific Rim, although it might not make that much sense since they are already robots, so they could upgrade themselves to be bigger. I was thinking they could also upload their consciousness into the machines, but I think, due to the quaza being their "soul," that might not work like this.

[IT book + Stephen King’s lore] How comes It’s form can’t be accurately comprehended by humans, but the Turtle’s can?

As far as I know, the book describes the Turtle (I heard it is called Maturin, but that might be a movie/show thing)… as a turtle and that’s kinda all that is to be known about it. But It’s true form is what the characters can only describe as spider-like, but that’s not its true form, but rather what the characters can comprehend from what they see. Like their minds filters it as such.
Here’s what I don’t understand: It and Maturin entities that existed since before time existed. But why there’s such a difference between them when it comes to their look? Why Maturin’s form can be comprehended by humans, but It’s barely?

[He-Man and the Masters of the Universe] Was the "conduit" concept always a thing?

So, I remember seeing in a sequence in the 2021 Netflix show where Adam explains to Skeletor that, while he has the Power Sword, it only serves as a place where the power is channeled (a conduit). What actually turns Adam into He-Man is... Adam. The difference is that the sword is what "holds things together", since, without it, Adam turns into a uncontrolable savage version of He-Man.

Now, in the most recent movie, it is revealed that the movie version of Adam is the actual conduit. He doesn't really need the sword to call the power.

My question: was this detail about He-Man's powers always a thing since the '80s cartoon, or was it just something that the writers came up with in later iterations? If so, how did it work in the past (specifically in the '80s version)?

Edit: also, does this also apply to She-Ra?

Question for the therapists who happens to see this post:

I'm sorry if this has been asked multiple times. Also, I think anyone who works in any field that involves helping people.

Do you see yourself going to the lengths Mary went in the movie to help one of your patients? Especially one like Clark (knowing just what she knew about him from the therapy sessions)?

A nitpick I have with this interaction

For those who don't remember, this is when Stormer's past is addressed in the show for the first time.

Zib and Makuro are talking about how Stormer started to be harsher with Furno. Now here's my nitpick: Makuro suggests that maybe he just sees potential in Furno, and Zib is the one who actually makes the connection with Von Ness' betrayal.

IDK, doesn't it make more sense to make Makuro the one who figures out the actual reason? Like, he is the one who is supposed to be the wisest.

I've been loosing hair for the last... 10 years or so? I'm 25 and I'm starting to feel very insecure about my hair...

I think it all started when I was 15-ish or even earlier? My hair started to get more rare, and I tried to fight against it. I mostly managed to just stop it from falling out, but DAMN I wish I had started sooner... Right now I use a solution that seems to make the smaller strands of hair stronger, and they might get bigger.

But recently I looked at a video where I appear (in the last image), and I hate how visible it is. I don't think anyone in my family had this problem, but it shouldn't have started this soon. Maybe it's the stress, or maybe that I am overweight? Regardless, I really hate it, and I don't want to lose even more hair. I see other boys my age still having good hair, so why am I the exception?

I mostly wrote this post for venting, but I would appreciate any advice. Maybe I should let it grow longer and then try to cover the balding spots with it.

(Hilarious Trope) That's not how this gun works!

EDIT: Just so you know, I might have been wrong about the 3rd example!

  1. The Simpsons (Season 30, Episode 9) - The character is holding a revolver (which is normally charged by putting the bullets inside the cylinder) and charging it by putting a magazine in the grip like a Glock. Please note that this was done intentionally to make fun of how guns are portrayed unrealistically in movies;
  2. Shadow the Hedgehog video game - In one of the trailers, Shadow is holding what I think was an M4A1 and, in this shot, he is arming it by pulling the handguard like a shotgun. The handguard is only for protecting the shooter from the heat generated by the barrel.
  3. Stranger Things (Season 5, Episode 8) - During the fight with the Mindflayer, Nancy is loading an M4A1-5, and, after she inserts a magazine, she is pushing the carrying handle to arm it like a shotgun. That's not what a carrying handle is for, obviously.

I want to mention that I know there's another popular example with a silencer for a shotgun or something, but I am not familiar with it. Also, I tried my best to identify each gun, so please correct me if I was wrong about any of them.

Is the One Wish Willow from Obsession inspired by any myth?

SPOILERS from Obsession: >!In the movie, a guy called Bear makes a wish to make his crush, Nikki, love him more than anything in the world. He does that by buying a so-called "One Wish Willow", which is a willow branch that grants you a wish if you tell it and then snap it. You can't make more than one wish, and other branches will not break if you try to make another wish. If it's important: you can't reverse a wish, and you can't wish for anything involving time manipulation, resurrection, immortality, or creating more One Wish Willows.!<

So, I know the action of granting wishes isn't a new concept, and there are even myths, legends, and folklore that involve stuff that can grant wishes. But based on the description, does the concept of the One Wish Willow sound similar to anything more specific from myths? Like, does it sound inspired by something?

So, Invasion From Below is a kid-friendly version of an Alien movie, right?

I am definitely not the first person to point that out, but I think the designers/show runners took some inspiration from the Alien series when making the beasts.

I mean, small creatures becoming bigger is a concept as old as not just writing, but as long as life has existed. But the Beast's life cycle starts with them emerging from a cocoon, and, mind you, the small beasts can jump (like the Facehuggers).

They also have a Queen Beast. Again, this is already a cliche when it comes to dealing with swarms of the same monsters in movies, but it is still a similarity.

Now... this is more of a stretch, but I find another... rather creepy inspiration. To understand it: the director's cut of the first Alien movie, released in 2003, included a scene where Ripley finds what seems to be a nest made by the Xenomorph, where she finds some of the missing crew members being slowly turned into Ovomorphs (the eggs). This was initially how the Ovomorphs were imagined to be made before the Xenomorph Queen was introduced.

Now, in the IFB episode, when the heroes search for civilians, they find them in cocoons. But some of them had the jumping Beasts in them. There's absolutely no difference between the prisson cocoons and the fertilized cocoons. It's likely that the cocoons can just serve a double purpose, but... I can see the possibilities that either is put there and is turned into nutrients, or... they are turned into beasts.

IDK, I just thought it was interesting.

I don't get why I've got downvoted. I even included an edit to just to make sure people know my intentions.

Just so you know, I had more downvotes before the edit (I think 5). Maybe people just got the wrong message first.

I feel like this sometimes...

Like... at least Bionicle gets some attention every now and then

When was the last time LEGO referenced HF?

u/Werewolf_Knight — 2 months ago

I like the design, but...

I know I can't be the only one who brought this up, but oh well.

So, this is the Breakout design for Furno. And he was sent to catch Jawblade... an aquatic villain... they've sent their fire hero... to fight a water villain... in the water...

Ok, so I get this isn't really a big deal, since Furno doesn't have "fire powers", but his tech is usually made to shoot fire. I just think it's funny that HF sent their hero, designed specifically around the element of fire, to a fishing mission.

Side note (and this is something I've noticed when I was young): do you see in this render how his tras-orange shoulder pad is NOT connected to the ball joint but actually a bit more up? I get why it is like that, but still.

Is it just me, or people don't seem to throw the word Mary Sue these days?

So, when The Last Jedi came out, one of the main criticisms was how powerful Rey seemed for no reason for many people. That caused people to call her a Mary Sue character. To my understanding, people called her like that ever since The Force Awakens, but I think it really got worse when The Last Jedi was released. This idea has been debated a lot around fandom spaces and has since become a buzzword for grifters' YT channels.

With that being said, I haven't heard many people using this name. Even the grifter channels seem to have stopped using this. Am I the only one?

Why there are so many games, specifically horror games, that have a Weeping Angel mechanic?

For people who don't know what that is, the Weeping Angel mechanic is when a character that chases the player moves only when the player isn't looking and stops whenever the player has it in their field of view. This mechanic is named after the Weeping Angels from the Doctor Who franchise, who do the same thing.

The games that I know have this mechanic are: Slender Man: The Eight Pages; SCP - Containment Breach; Dark Deception - Chapter 2: Into Madness; Lethal Company; Resident Evil Village - Shadow of Rose; Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach; Poppy Playtime - Chapter 5: Deep Sleep.

There are also non-horror games like the Mario series (Boo) and Minecraft (the Creaking) that feature this mechanic, so it's not really just a thing of horror games.

I do understand why the devs want this mechanic in the games, but I feel like most of the time, these sequences are too easy to beat. You only need to constantly look at the stalker, since most of the time, the hallways you have to traverse don't present any danger that would require you to move your view from the stalker, and there's usually no penalty to look at the stalker for too long. I'm not saying that about every game I mentioned. For example:

-Dark Decetion makes it hard because there is more than one Gold Watcher chasing you, and they all come from different directions;

-The Coil-Heads in Lethal Company is simple, but it also makes it harder to deal with the rest of the monster;

-I think Slender Man also kills you if you look at him for too long, if I remember correctly.

Where can I play the Breakout game that was on the LEGO website?

I think maybe it's lost media, but I've heard there are people who have tried to restore some of the old games LEGO had on their websites, so I thought I should try my luck.

I need a refresher on Von Nebula

So, what was Von's motivation exactly?

I remembered that he decided to run from a mission while he was with Stormer... but after that, I don't remember what his motivation was for hating Stormer and why he became a villain.
