Hi everyone,

I’m trying to decide between a 48" and a 55" TV and would appreciate your advice based on my viewing distances.

When I sit close to the TV for gaming, I’m about 1.6 m away from the screen. Sometimes even only 0.9 m.

When I’m gaming or watching something while lying on the couch, I’m around 2.35 m away.

The 55" model costs €300 more than the 48" one, and I’m not sure if that extra money is really worth it for the larger size in my situation.

Which size would you recommend for my viewing distances and use case, and do you think the jump from 48" to 55" is noticeable enough at 0.9 m – 2.35 m to justify the additional €300?

I’m looking for a new TV. My old Samsung is only 32" and doesn’t even support Full HD, it’s very outdated. 🙈

I’m willing to spend up to €850, but ideally less.

I occasionally watch linear TV and game occasionally, but with GTA 6 coming, I plan to game much more often. (I’ve read that OLED might not be ideal for games locked at 30 FPS, because judder can be more noticeable than on other panels. Is that true, and should I therefore avoid OLED entirely?)

I sit either 0.90 m or 2.1 m from the screen. The room isn’t very large, and more distance isn’t possible. I read that this also plays a role: I can lower the blinds in the room.

For me, the following are important: 4K resolution, 120 Hz panel, VRR, and at least two HDMI 2.1 ports. Longevity is also important to me; I’d like the TV to last several years without major issues. (I know that’s something you can’t really know in advance.)

I find the TV market extremely confusing and have trouble judging which models are actually better than others, so I’m hoping for your expertise and experiences.

I’ve done some research and came across these models (prices are what I currently see in my region):

– LG C5 55" (€799 with discount, currently sold out, only available for pre-order)

– LG C5 48" (€599 with discount)

– TCL 50C7K 50" (€599)

– Samsung GQ50QN90F 50" (€680)

– Philips 55MLED920/12 55" (€680)

– Philips 48OLED760/12 48" (€680)

What do you think of these models? Are any of them particularly strong or weak for gaming and general TV use, and how would you decide in my situation?

Which of these would you pick and why? Have I missed any good models that you would recommend instead?

Any recommendations or experiences would be really helpful.

Ich schreibe demnächst meine erste Online-Klausur an der FernUni Hagen und bin gerade dabei, mein Setup dafür zusammenzustellen.

Laut den technischen Vorgaben brauche ich eine Webcam (mindestens HD-Auflösung, Autofokus und automatische Belichtungskorrektur) sowie ein funktionierendes Mikrofon.

Da ich mich mit der Hardware nicht so wirklich auskenne und der Markt gefühlt riesig ist, hoffe ich auf eure Schwarmintelligenz:

Reicht das integrierte Mikrofon von meinem Laptop für solche Klausuren erfahrungsgemäß aus, oder machen die Aufsichten da Probleme? Brauche ich ein externes Mikrofon?

Und: Habt ihr konkrete Empfehlungen für eine Webcam, die diese Anforderungen erfüllt, aber den Geldbeutel nicht komplett sprengt?

Wie pingelig sind generell eure Erfahrungen mit den technischen Checks vor den Online-Klausuren?

I am planning to move to Mallorca in spring 2027 and I am currently trying to sort out my paperwork. Right at the top of the list is the N.I.E. number.

My situation: Unfortunately, the closest Spanish Consulate General is about a three-hour drive away from me. However, since I will be flying to the island for a while at the end of October anyway to get some things organized, I had the following idea:

Can I apply for the N.I.E. number directly at the relevant office in Palma, even if I don’t have a registered address on the island yet?

Or, based on your experience, would you recommend that I just make the drive to the consulate?

I would love to hear about your experiences and any tips you might have!

Wegen privater und beruflicher Verpflichtungen habe ich es im Semester bisher leider kaum geschafft, mich intensiv mit den Inhalten des Moduls auseinanderzusetzen. Die Vorkenntnisse sind also eher mager.

Mir stehen noch ungefähr 6 Wochen zur Verfügung, in denen ich mich aber wirklich primär und intensiv diesem Modul widmen kann. In der Zeit habe ich unter anderem Urlaub und kann mich voll und ganz dem Studium widmen.

Mich würden eure Erfahrungen interessieren Haltet ihr das in 6 Wochen (bei gutem Fokus) für realistisch machbar? Wie viel Zeit plant ihr normalerweise für die heiße Phase der Klausurvorbereitung ein?

I ordered a Nillkin case for my Samsung Galaxy S25. The Amazon listing didn't mention anything about the case (CamShield Pro) having MagSafe, but now that it has arrived, I can see it has a ring in the middle, which obviously means it has MagSafe.

Personally, I don't plan on using this feature at all. I still charge everything the classic way with a cable.

Now I'm wondering if a case like this can really be used without any concerns, and what risks it might carry. For example, I'm worried that it might scratch the back of the phone, or that having magnets constantly attached could affect the battery and other internal hardware over time. I don't change my smartphone very often, so I really don't want to risk anything.

I would be very interested in your experiences and expertise. Can I safely use the case without worrying, or does it have any long-term disadvantages?

We are a family of five arriving on the island soon, and we're looking for recommendations for a reliable and cheap transfer from Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) to our accommodation in Santa Ponsa.

Since there are five of us plus our luggage, we will need a larger vehicle, like a minivan.

Does anyone have recent good experiences with specific transfer companies? We are looking for something that is budget-friendly but trustworthy.

Any tips on which services to use (or which ones to avoid) would be greatly appreciated!

Seit bald einem Monat kühlt die Midea PortaSplit nun mein Zuhause, nun gut, zumindest das Obergeschoss. Grundsätzlich bin ich auch sehr zufrieden. Eine softwareseitige (?) Eigenheit trübt das Bild jedoch ein wenig: der iECO-Modus.

Mir ist aufgefallen, dass das Gerät nach der Nutzung des iECO-Modus gewissermaßen feststeckt. Möchte ich danach wieder die volle Kühlleistung abrufen oder den Turbo-Modus aktivieren, zieht die PortaSplit maximal noch 700 bis 800 Watt. Die einzige Lösung, die bei mir funktioniert: Ich muss die Anlage für einige Minuten vom Stromnetz trennen, damit sie wieder die 1000-Watt-Marke überschreitet.

Zwar ist das Ausstecken schnell gemacht, auf Dauer im Alltag aber lästig.

Der iECO-Modus spart zwar gefühlt tatsächlich etwas Strom ein, allerdings geht dies für mein Empfinden auf Kosten der Kühlleistung. Aus diesem Grund bleibt die Funktion bei mir vorerst deaktiviert.

Welche Erfahrungen habt ihr mit dem iECO-Modus gesammelt? Nutzt ihr den Modus?
