For those who are self-employed, how do you balance work/life as a self-employed therapist when clients want to contact you out of hours e.g. cancellations, rearranging, getting lost, but you want to still protect your peace for your own mental wellbeing :') ?

I'm wondering if some of you have quite strict 'working hours' and are only contactable during those hours. Do you put any specifics in your contract/adverts? Do you have a work phone? Or give out your personal phone? And would you use 'do not disturb' perhaps?

I wouldn't want to seem callous but I also really need my peace to stay productive.

[Clients] How do you keep your business life from your personal life separate if you need to give your number out for art teaching etc?

I'm wondering if some of you have quite strict 'working hours' and are only contactable during those hours. Do you put any specifics in your contract/adverts? Do you have a work phone? Or give out your personal phone? And would you use 'do not disturb' perhaps? I don't want to be uncontactable but I also really don't do well with constant pings and interruptions of my personal time. Thanks!

UV resistant paint varnish that would cover slate rock paintings?

Hey all, I'd like to make a series of intricate slate rock paintings that will be painted in acrylic, does anyone know of any UV resistant clear lacquers / varnishes in the UK that would protect these paintings for years? The difficulty is that there will be part slate and part acrylic visible - so two surface types! I'm also aware Slate is quite porous. Thanks so much

Recommendations for affordable acrylic paints and easels for painting? (UK)

Hey everyone, I'm really struggling to decide would be so grateful for some help. I studied BA Illustration and I'm looking to go down the route of Art Therapy but want to test if I am good at this avenue by picking up painting and potentially teaching workshops to test the waters. May I ask what acrylic paints you would recommend? And same for sturdy but not overly expensive easels?

Paints wise, I'm wondering about:

 • Liquitex Basics £16.30 for 400ml (bit pricy for me)
 • Jacksons Art £9.90 for 500ml
 • Daler Rowney System 3 £9 for 500ml
 • Daler Rowney Graduate £7 for 500ml

I'd like bigger sizes so it's less plastic wastage (albeit sometimes there are some great small size versions out there). Is there anything I'm overlooking, or any you'd recommend please?

Thank you so much!

Affordable acrylic paints for workshops? (UK) Here's what I've tried and rank!

Hey all, I've been trying to swatch paints I've tried from various retailers. I'm starting to host basic painting workshops soon though and would like some paints that are at student level but nice range of colours. Is it possible to have cheaper than a £10er per bottle? I'm wondering about

 • Liquitex Basics £16.30 for 400ml (bit pricy for me)
 • Jacksons Art £9.90 for 500ml
 • Daler Rowney System 3 £9 for 500ml
 • Daler Rowney Graduate £7 for 500ml

Are there any I'm overlooking that have decent opacity and pigment? Do you have a preference? Have you tried any of these above?

These are what I've tried, and I've ranked paints in order of quality:

 1. Hobbycraft 'ART' range - 75ml so not the best value vs size but had the best pigment
 2. The Works - Crawford & Black - Only tried black and white but these were surprisingly opaque/rich for how cheap they were
 3. Sostrene Grene - had lovely range of colours and good pigment on some but left a shiny finish
 4. Hobbycraft 'Pebeo' range - was very hit or miss on opacity but nice colours
 5. Proper Job 'Royal Langnickel' - the metallics were surprisingly good, but some had bad opacity. Colours were nice.
 6. B&M - honestly pretty bad all round, wishy washy, some paints had random black pigments in and colours were quite basic
 7. Homebargains 'Colvin & Co' - just all round bad!

Would love any advice please!

Affordable tripod recommendations for Lumix S5ii & Mobile?

Hey all, I'm looking for an affordable tripod to work with on my Lumix s5ii & iPhone 15 Pro and feeling a bit overwhelmed with options!

 • For basic video and photography
 • Looking under £100, ideally under £75 if poss as I'm a newbie with very little spare cash!
 • Reasonably lightweight if poss though I won't be trekking with it necessarily - mostly business promo and portraits etc

I will upgrade if I end up going more pro in time. Thanks so much!

Issue with storage - 'System Data' is at 500gb - how and why?

Hey all, I know I will probably need to phone Apple Support, but I'm just posting here incase there is some sort of quick fix!

 • Macbook Pro
 • 16 inch 2023
 • Memory 16gb
 • Storage 1TB
 • Tahoe 26.4.1

If I go to my Settings and click on Storage then look down at System Data - it's saying 500gb! But I have zero idea why - is this normal? I'm constantly running out of space and having to delete a lot of important stuff to make way, please help!

Fitbit’s / Apple Watches - are they useful for you?

Hi all, I’ve heard these watches can be good for checking your health, I’m not taking medication anymore but would it be generally good to keep an eye on stress levels/sleep etc? Have you found it became an obsession and more negative than positive perhaps?

Still trying to find ways to improve general living without medication.

Thanks!

[UK] Would love to invest in Neurodivergence support/Mental Health path - where to go if not a degree? Is this possible?

Hi all, I'm looking to pivot from my profession as it brings no meaning, and have a great interest in Psychology/Psychiatry - UK based.

I was late-diagnosed ADHD and would love to bring others help in some way - becoming a Neurodivergent advisor/assessor or working within the art/mental health realm (aware I would have to do an Art Therapist MA if I wanted to be officially a 'therapist'.) I've written off Occupational Therapist.

My issue is, I have an Illustration BA Hons degree, but can't afford to get in another debt of doing a masters really, I was hoping to take some online learning / local learning part-time courses around work, starting with a Level 2 course etc. Is there a way I could go down this path without having to take out another degree? And any idea of costs etc please?

I would love to have any suggestion if anyone has taken a similar path, it's a bit of a minefield to navigate. Thank you so much!

Our cat occasionally doing this strange tummy thing. Is it coughing?

https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/comments/1tddig8/our_cat_doing_this_strange_thing/

Video above ^ Does anyone recognise what might be happening here? Poor thing seems to be struggling - she does this tummy thing and sometimes coughs. Licks her lips a lot after. She’s generally very itchy and has had patches of fur missing around her hind legs and tummy. Will suddenly groom very aggressively at any stage. Not sure if it’s related.

She is eating but definitely seems off at times through each day. Still interested in paying etc.
We’ve removed all fragranced items from home, shes on grain free food and weird trying to cut it down to one food type etc. She does have access to outside. (We’re aware of bad plants etc, she’s not eating anything dangerous).

We will take her to vets but wondering if anyone has any idea first as weve usually had to end up in thousands of pounds of debt with no answer previously! Thank you in advance

Hey all, I’m in a bit of a career situation! I have been freelance graphic designer for over 10 years because, (as a very sensitive, and morally-driven person who is sick of office politics and stupid red tape) I decided I couldn’t keep in the retail/corporate grind any longer. I was pursuing illustrations but AI put at end to that. I’ve now been out of regular design work for a long time because I ended up in burnout and AI is sapping the last dregs of creativity I once had in this career.

So can I ask, what jobs do you do that satiate these requirements?!:

 • Something that isn’t completely meaningless
 • Something that is creative or creative adjacent
 • Something that pays enough that I don’t have to side hustle
 • Something that doesn’t need me to praise the feet of the AI gods (I’m salty!)
 • Something that is safe(ish) from AI!
 • Something that I can ideally do from home or at least not 5 days a week in an office full of people

Does it exist?! And without me needing another degree and tonnes more debt? Dear lawdt please help!

Hi all, I just got off the phone from a ATW claim renewal member who said that my ATW coach cannot be renewed - once you’ve had your 12 sessions in a year, that’s it... as it’s not seen as necessary help from the Gov. I’ve heard anecdotally online that people have said similar but others have also been suggesting it!

I’m self employed and was told a while back while I was waiting for my grant by ATW helpline staff that they wouldn’t support me any more (long story but I was waiting a long time) and this new person said that was incorrect! 🫠 So many conflicting opinions.

So my questions are:

 • have you managed to continue (in the last 3/6 months) your coach after an initial year?
 • if not, have you applied for other support? This person said a virtual assistant would not be eligible. What counts?
 • are you self employed and have you been waiting long?

Would appreciate any answers or advice as I am very much still struggling. Thanks all

I found this near the middle of the road maany years ago and have just sat with it not really knowing what to do. I assumed it was fake because of the ‘dodgy’ looking casting of the heart but I recently wondered if it was maybe from being run over. It was in quite a secluded location so could’ve sat there a while and does look bashed up. It’s very heavy! I did also notice the jump ring nearest to the toggle isn’t soldered but everything else is?!

Does anyone know what it would be worth if not real? Should I get it melted down if it isn’t? Thank you
