Democratic Socialist WINS In Florida: Angie Nixon Stuns U.S. Senate Primary Race (The Rational National)

Great analysis.

_____________

Overall, this is still a longsh0t general election. But this win means that AOC can win Florida in the Democratic POTUS 2028 primaries. Angie Nixon won by around 12 points.

Angie Nixon wins the Florida US Senate Democratic primary

This might be the only big progressive win in the 2026 Florida primaries.

August 18, 2026: primary election day in Alaska, Florida: Here's whom to vote for.

My choices will be based on who is the most progressive candidate I most agree with whom can actually win the primary and general election. I will look at polling, fundraising, endorsements, etc. I will not include races in which there is only 1 Democrat running in the primary. Probably won't get into Lt. Gov. races. Will consider 2026 CPR House Race ratings | Cook Political Report and 2026 CPR Senate Race ratings | Cook Political Report

To be honest, this isn't really that interesting of a primary election day. There's limited polling in key progressive races. This is super late; so, sorry about that.

What's in this Post comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.

ALASKA: (note: this is Alaska. My choices will be the Democrat who can win the general election)

Alaska Primary 2026 — Candidates, Races & Voter Guide (August 18, 2026) · DecodeTheVote

GOVERNOR:

Tom Begich for Alaska He's winning both the primary and the general election and he's a Democrat.

US SENATE:

Home - Mary Peltola She's winning both the primary and the general election and she's a Democrat.

US HOUSE:

Home - Bill Hill for Alaskans

Endorsements - Bill Hill for Alaskans

Bill's Platform - Bill Hill for Alaskans

He's an Independent with a good-enough platform and good-enough funding. A strong-enough general election campaign and he can possibly win.

FLORIDA:

Florida Primary 2026 — Candidates, Races & Voter Guide (August 18, 2026) · DecodeTheVote

GOVERNOR:

Dayna Marie Foster | Candidate for Florida Governor

POLICY PLATFORM | Join the Movement for Florida — Foster For Florida.

ISSUES | Act Now for Florida's Future — Foster For Florida.

She has a few endorsements and she has a good platform. The leader in the primary is a former Republican David Jolly. The strategic choice might be David Jolly

US SENATE:

This is Solid-R.

Angie Nixon for U.S. Senate | Change Can't Wait

Endorsements - Angie Nixon for U.S. Senate

Priorities - Angie Nixon for U.S. Senate

This is a long-shot general election campaign given how relatively little she's fundraised. But she has endorsements; so, might as well vote for her. She was behind in polling in the primary; but, hopefully, has momentum on her side.

US HOUSE DISTRICT 7:

This is a Likely-R district, but Marialana Kinter is still the better choice than the centrist in the race.

Marialana Kinter

KINTER FOR CONGRESS

ENDORSEMENTS — KINTER FOR CONGRESS

Values & Beliefs — KINTER FOR CONGRESS

US HOUSE DISTRICT 13:

This is a Likely-R district

Leela Gray - Veteran for Florida

Endorsements — Leela Gray - Veteran for Florida

Issues — Leela Gray - Veteran for Florida

She's not great, but she's within around the margin of error of beating the Republican incumbent US Rep. Ana Paulina Luna.

US HOUSE DISTRICT 20:

This is a Solid-D district; so, my choice will be the most progressive candidate with enough support.

Elijah Manley for Congress — Florida's 20th District

Endorsements

Issues

US HOUSE DISTRICT 22:

This is a Lean-R district

Pia Dandiya is effectively running unopposed.

US HOUSE DISTRICT 23:

This is a Solid-D district; so, my choice will be the most progressive candidate with enough support.

Victoria Doyle for Congress

Victoria Doyle for Congress (endorsements)

Victoria Doyle for Congress (priorities)

US HOUSE DISTRICT 24:

This is a Solid-D district; so, my choice will be the most progressive candidate with enough support.

Oliver Gilbert for Congress

On the Issues - Oliver Gilbert for Congress

Not a great candidate lineup, but Oliver Gilbert is the one Fairshake is most against; so, that's a plus for me. However, he doesn't have endorsements.

US HOUSE DISTRICT 25:

This is a Toss-up seat.

Oliver for Congress | Oliver Larkin for Florida's 25th District

Oliver's Endorsements Would be a DSA-level/Squad-level progressive

Oliver for Congress FL-25 Issues

Volunteer for Oliver's Campaign!

US HOUSE DISTRICT 27:

This is a Likely-R seat.

Both Democrats aren't great. No good general election polling. Pick either Democrat.

Primary election day August 11, 2026 Connecticut, Minnesota, Vermont, Wisconsin: Election results vs. my 'Here's whom to vote for' thing: Overall, it was another good night for progressives.

All results gotten from the NYT and the AP. List from: Primary election day August 11, 2026 in Connecticut, Minnesota, Vermont, Wisconsin. Here's whom to vote for: : r/TheMajorityReport

CONNECTICUT:

GOVERNOR:

<< Governor Ned Lamont's Priorities

Not great, but is going to win the primary and the general election. >> WON

With x>95% of the vote in, Governor Ned Lamont got around 67.9% of the vote to Josh Elliot's 32.1%.

US HOUSE DISTRICT 1:

<< There's some things with Luke Bronin that are better than the incumbent US Rep. John B. Larson. There's some things better with US Rep. Larson than Bronin. >>

Issues — Luke Bronin for Congress

Endorsements — Luke Bronin for Congress

Luke Bronin won. Arguably a good thing given he's a younger progressive beating an older progressive incumbent.

With x>95% of the vote in, Luke Bronin got around 54.5% of the vote to US Rep. John B. Larson's 32.8%.

MINNESOTA:

GOVERNOR:

<< US Senator Amy Klobuchar is effectively running unopposed. >> WON

The US Senate seat isn't up for special election until November 2027. Till then, either Governor Tim Walz or incoming Governor Amy Klobuchar will appoint someone to fill Amy Klobuchar's vacant Minnesota US Senate seat.

If US Rep. Andie Craig is chosen, she'll very likely be defeated in the special election. Political considerations might keep US Rep. Ilhan Omar in the US House. Someone like US Rep. Betty McCollum could be interesting for that US Senate seat. She's 57/212 on here: Congressional Democrat Left Tracker - Google Sheets (US House). 25/212 and a 'C' ratings on here: 🇵🇸 Congressional Democrat Palestine Tracker 🇵🇸 - Google Sheets. If she's appointed, she'd win the special election.

With x>95% of the vote in, US Senator Amy Klobuchar got around 89.7% of the vote to Kobey J. Layne's 5.8%.

ATTORNEY GENERAL:

<< Keith Ellison for Attorney General

The best progressive in the race. General election polling will get better after she wins the primary. She's arguably the most impressive leftist or progressive non-incumbent in a primary race in this 2026 cycle. Yes, above Zohran Mamdani and above Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. Wisconsin Assemblyperson Francesca Hong didn't have the endorsements of AOC or US Senator Bernie Sanders. >> LOST

David Crowley is effectively a progressive outside of his AI data center policies and advocacy. This is literally the only real leftist/progressive loss in these August 11, 2026 primaries and it's a loss to a progressive.

Badger Basics — David Crowley for Wisconsin

Endorsements — David Crowley for Wisconsin

With x>95% of the vote in, David Crowley got around 39.81% of the vote to Wisconsin Assemblyperson Francesca Hong's 39.33%.

US HOUSE DISTRICT 1:

<< Mitchell Berman for Congress

Priorities | Mitchell Berman

Effectively the only one with any real fundraising and support. >> WON

US HOUSE DISTRICT 3:

<< Rebecca Cooke is the only one with real general election polling and she's generally winning. >> WON

With x>95% of the vote in, Rebecca Cooke got around 60.5% of the vote to Emily Berge's 39.4%.

US HOUSE DISTRICT 4:

Minnesota Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan wins the Minn. US Senate Dem. primary.

Sources: Minnesota U.S. Senate Primary 2026: Live Election Results - The New York Times

______

She'll win in the general election.

This is a solid example of endorsements and leftist and progressive media--specifically Emma Vigeland and The Majority Report--being so important.

It seems Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan will outperform her polling. And I give the credit to Emma Vigeland and The Majority Report.

For the win, I give the credit to her endorsements and leftist and progressive media and such.

She won by around 19-20 points. Which means she outperformed by around 5-22 points: Who Is Ahead in the U.S. Senate Race in Minnesota? Latest 2026 Polls - The New York Times
