New to gout, did you completely give up alcohol, even red wine?

I’m 39 and had my first gout attack about two months ago. It came out of nowhere and got bad enough that I basically couldn’t walk. Thankfully, after about three days it improved a lot.

I’ve been on medication for the past two months, and I went back to my doctor today for another blood test to see where my uric acid is and whether I still need to stay on the medication.

One thing I’m still trying to figure out is alcohol.

I already knew beer was something I should avoid, so I haven’t really been drinking beer. But over the past two months I’ve had a small amount of red wine here and there — usually just a glass — and so far I haven’t noticed any problems or another flare.

I asked my doctor about it today and his advice was pretty simple: avoid alcohol altogether, including wine.

Obviously I’m going to take my doctor’s advice seriously, but I’m curious what people who have actually lived with gout for years do in real life.

Did you completely stop drinking after your first attack? Or once your uric acid was under control, were you able to occasionally have a glass of wine without triggering a flare?

And for those who still drink occasionally, have you noticed a big difference between beer, wine, and liquor?

Still very new to all of this, so I’d love to hear what has actually worked for you long term.

Traded my Maserati Levante last year for a 2025 F-150 STX, one year later, I am still in love with my F-150

I had lots of fun with my Levante, still love the looking of it and the exhaust sound of it! However, after owning my first F-150 for a year and 4 months with about 12000 miles, I also love my F-150. I am probably the craziest one who switch from Maserati to a truck! I miss my Maserati but also enjoying a lot of my truck!

Our customers go crazy for this goose, why?

We have a claw machine arcade and we have noticed whenever we put up this goose to the machine, our customers go crazy for it and they will be gone in a few hours. Does anyone know why do people love these goose so much?

Would you consider a roof bag for your Lexus or not? Why?

As we all love our RX, but we have to admit that the truck space is not the best. When you are running our trunk space, would you consider something like this or not? Why?

I nearly cancelled a date because his profile and messages felt like two different people

His dating profile was extremely serious.
Every answer mentioned career goals, routines or personal development. His photos looked like professional headshots. I expected the date to feel like a job interview.
His messages were completely different. They were casual, funny and occasionally misspelled.
I became suspicious that someone else had written his profile.
Before cancelling, I entered the profile text and several anonymized messages into Accio Work. I asked it to compare tone, recurring vocabulary and the topics each version emphasized.
The analysis showed a clear difference in formality, but it also found several uncommon phrases that appeared in both. Accio Work suggested the most likely explanation was heavy editing rather than a completely different writer.
I asked him directly whether someone had helped with his profile.
He admitted that his sister rewrote nearly all of it because she thought his original answers sounded “unambitious.” He showed me the original version, which was much closer to his messages and much funnier.
We went on the date.
He was not pretending to be someone else. He had simply allowed a family member to turn his profile into a corporate biography.
The date went well, and he replaced two profile answers afterwards.
I’m glad I asked instead of assuming, although I still think outsourcing your dating profile to a sibling should require a small disclosure.

Keep my high-mileage baby or downgrade to a newer ride? Need advice from fellow RX 350 owners!

Hey everyone,
I’m facing a real dilemma with my 2018 Lexus RX 350 and could really use some collective wisdom from this sub.
I’m the original owner—bought it brand new, and we’ve been together for 8 wonderful years and 97,000+ miles. I’ve babied this car, stayed strictly on top of all maintenance, and honestly still love it.
However, time is catching up. Recently, I’ve noticed the ride quality isn't what it used to be. There’s subtle chassis vibration and it just doesn't feel as silky-smooth or solid as it did in its glory days.
Here’s my thought process:
I’m considering selling/trading in the RX 350 and throwing in another $2,000 – $3,000 to buy a 2025 Subaru Outback or a Mazda CX-50 with much lower mileage (around 20k–30k miles).
Option A: Put some money into the RX (suspension overhaul/bushings/struts?) and drive it till the wheels fall off.

Option B: Make the switch now for a newer tech package, lower mileage, and a tighter chassis—even if it means moving away from the Lexus V6 smoothness.

Am I crazy for wanting to part ways with a legendary bulletproof V6 for a newer four-cylinder crossover? Has anyone made a similar switch, or refreshed their RX suspension at around 100k miles and brought that original magic back?
Would love to hear your thoughts, experiences, and brutal honesty!

Standing desk experts, help!

Got a new standing desk a few months ago, but I didn’t really have a chance to use it until yesterday. I moved it from one office to another office. It was working ok and then suddenly it stopped working, the controller has CFP flashing and the desk can no longer go up or down. Tried to hold on down button to reset it, tried to hold on both up and down buttons and nothing happened! Any suggestions what might be wrong and how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Intermittent vibration on 2018 RX 350 AWD between 40–60 mph

I have a 2018 Lexus RX 350 AWD with about 96,000 miles. Recently, I’ve noticed an intermittent vibration when accelerating, usually between 40 and 60 mph and around 2,000–2,200 RPM.

I mainly feel it through the accelerator pedal and the floor near my feet. It doesn’t really come through the steering wheel, and the whole car doesn’t shake. Sometimes I can also feel a slight vibration when I let off the gas.

Has anyone with a similar-year RX 350 experienced this? What ended up causing it?

My date brought a “requirements list” and somehow I became the unreasonable one

Went on a first date last weekend with someone I met through friends. About twenty minutes in, he pulled up a Notes app list titled “non-negotiables.” It had income range, commute radius, whether I’d relocate, preferred number of kids, and even a line about “acceptable family involvement.”

I honestly couldn’t decide if this was refreshingly direct or if I was being onboarded as a vendor. The weirdest part was that he got annoyed when I asked to see the criteria he was being measured against. Apparently his list was “just being practical,” while mine would make things transactional.

Later I fed the situation into Accio Work, which I normally use to organize messy research, and asked it to turn both sides into the same due-diligence table. Seeing identical columns for each person made the double standard painfully obvious. It also flagged that half of his so-called requirements were preferences he couldn’t explain.

Would you rather someone show you a checklist on date one, or quietly judge you against it for three months?"

Almost 30MPG on my 2018 RX350

I had not had this high MPG for a long long time since I had it from 2018! It’s still going strong!

What’s your best MPG on the RX?

Would you replace this 2018 Bradford White water heater, or just keep an eye on it?

My gas water heater is a 2018 Bradford White, so it’s about 8 years old now.

Overall it’s still working fine and we haven’t had any issues with hot water, but there are a couple of things that have me wondering if I should replace it before it becomes an emergency.

The T&P (temperature & pressure relief) valve discharged once a few years after it was installed and was replaced.
Recently I’ve noticed rust stains forming around the T&P valve opening (see photos). It doesn’t seem to be actively leaking, but the rust has definitely gotten worse over time.
Part of me says, “If it isn’t leaking, leave it alone.” The other part says I’d rather replace it on my own schedule than come home to a flooded basement.

For those of you with more experience:
Would you replace it now or keep running it?
Does that rust around the T&P opening look like something to worry about?

If you were replacing it today, would you buy another Bradford White, or would you go with something else like Rheem, AO Smith, or another brand?

Just curious what everyone here would do in my situation.

Is it actually unsafe to charge an iPhone 17 with a basic USB-A to USB-C cable?

I recently bought an iPhone 17, and I’ve seen a few posts and articles saying that you should avoid using non-Apple USB-C chargers or cables because the pins or charging standards may be different.
I often charge mine using a very basic USB-A to USB-C cable connected to a regular USB power adapter, like the setup in the photo. It charges more slowly than a USB-C fast charger, but otherwise I haven’t noticed any problems.
Is there actually any risk of damaging the battery, charging port, or phone by using this kind of cable regularly? Or is it generally fine as long as the cable and adapter aren’t extremely cheap or damaged?
I’m curious what everyone else uses for everyday charging.

2018RX350 with 95xxx miles, both of the wheels bearings need to be replaced soon, normal?

Bought it new back in 2018, and it had been working great with no issues besides regular maintenance. However, recently I noticed the noise when turning over 50MPH. Brought it to a mechanic shop and was quoted both of the wheels bearings need to be replaced for about $800 to $1000 depending whether it needs alignment or not. Back in 2018, I replaced one of the wheels bearings on my 2006 Lexus IS250 when it was about 130xxx miles. For 8 years old TX350 with less than 100k miles, is this normal to replace both of the wheel bearings? Any feedback is appreciated!

Didn’t realize how bright the headlight is until I watched the picture

I drove from Columbus, OH to Baltimore, MD back and forth yesterday. It was 800 miles and lots of driving! I didn’t realize how bright the headlight was until I watched the picture I took. Super bright and it definitely helped with my night driving experience! Bought it new back in 2018 and closed to 100,000 miles now
