Just got multiple password reset emails for my Social media accounts

I just received several password resets for two of my social media accounts. I still have access and changed my password but is this just a case of someone scraping sites with my email or do you think my email has been compromised as well?

I use 2FA on my emails and nothing has cropped up. One of my social media account uses 2FA and I got a text, which is how I knew they were legit.

I am trying to cut down on my internet account usage, basically removing what I can from places other than what I use. Is there a service that can do that? Find old accounts and request deletions?

I just found my first DS from christmas 2005!

This is insane. So the story goes, back in 2005, christmas time, my mum told my dad to go and get me a gameboy for Christmas. My dad returned with this and my mum was furious as she thought it was a different console (she had bought a game already). My dad was able to convince her the sales guy (who was German, as we where stationed in germany at the time) had actually sold him the next "generation" and it could play the game my mum bought for it.

Christmas day, I unbox this with Mario Kart DS and I was hooked. I didn't stop playing it and, as you can tell, I decorated it with scooby christmas stickers.

Along comes boxing day, my brother decided he wanted in on my new DS and stole it from me. Upon being confronted, he smashed the top screen. I was devastated but my dad assured me he would get me another one, and he did. The second one is the DS I carried with me and still have.

I assumed this one was binned. 21 years later in a box, in the loft, I find it. Sitting alone in a crate. Sufficed to say, it needs the repair but we have a lot of catching up to do. The stickers are staying, its patina.

An update to my post about imported Replicas

It arrived, I ordered it from KYAIRSOFT on the Sunday, it shipped Tuesday and was here from Hong Kong by today, Thursday.

I had to use UPS but I didnt even have to touch customs. They clearly know what they are doing with shipping to the UK so I recommend them.

This feels so much nicer than my CYMA M9. Full metal, nice blow back and it didnt come with a cheap mag thats already leaking. I dont know if its a gen 1 or 2 M9 though :(

Does anyone else have issues with the X button on Steam deck?

I have started having an issue with the X button when using tools. I can be using them fine, then charge them and nothing happens. The tools then dont work in a certain area.

For example, if I long press X, and nothing happens, I cant then destroy rocks in a certain area, almost as if the charge radius is blocking me. If I move to another area of the mine or change floors, it fixes itself until I use the tool it happens with again. You cant use any tools in that area either.

I have checked the controls in the calibration tool and they all work fine.

Has anyone else had this bug or is it an issue with the deck?

How do you track collections, wants and new releases?

I have been delving in to collecting physical releases of pretty much everything I watch. Anime is no exception.

I am having trouble tracking anime I want on bluray or DVD and I miss release windows or don't know who is releasing what. I used to use tabs on my browser until they limited it to 99 and they got lost and I forgot. I also tried MAL but Its really not designed for it. I also don't stream anime unless absolutely needed so I rely on new releases to catch me up, but I don't know how to track who releases what and when, or if they are even getting a release.

Has anyone else had this problem and solved it? I thought about an excel spreadsheet but I worry I won't keep it on track.

What are people's experiences importing or buying an Airsoft Replica from an international store?

I have wanted a Sword Cutlass M9 for a long time, and I finally have a UKARA, but the only site that still sells one is KYAIRSOFT in Hong Kong.

As far as I know, I have to provide my UKARA number and others have said its best if its on the box as well. Is there anything else that needs to be done or does anyone else have a similar experience?

My graphics card keeps crashing my PC and I have no clue how to fix it.

I have a 7800xt graphics card and since the latest driver update, it just crashes my PC. No blue screen, just a black screen and then soft reboot.

I have tried to update or rollback the card but any time an installation is done, it does the same thing.

I see errors in event viewer like AMDryzenmasterdriver31 service failed due to the following error and its "system cannot find the path specified"

I also see "device dissociation failed" as well. When I try to run a fresh install of Adrenelin, it identifies my card as needing repair, but then it crashes the same as it did again.

Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT:

I may have cracked it.

  1. Boot in to safe mode with networking.
  2. Download Adrenaline.
  3. Install it over the top of whats already there and choose Factory Reset when you get to the first section. It should also say Repair under your graphics driver bit
  4. Let it go through the motions and then reboot.

Mine has now been solid for nearly an hour and I have managed to get a game of BF6 and Cities Skylines 2 in with no issues.

Are there any distros that look like they are from the 90s / Early 2000s?

Im looking at switching to Linux but the build I am going for will be in an older case, basically a sleeper.

I have been binging old shows like twin peaks, xfiles and early shows that feature computers from the 90s with non descript, basic, early OS systems.

Does there exist a distro that has that look but is basically a modern OS? I don't mind ones that look like 95 or 98 though.

Edit: Thanks for the help, it seems I got the wrong end of the stick. Its not the distro I am after but a desktop environment. Thank you for the answers explaining this

I drew a military complex as a jumping point for my own spin on a gate story

Some of you may have seen me talk about having a sort of Fanfic scenario as an Idea. I was pretty slow on actually piecing a lot of it together. I thought I would start by creating what I would use as a base in the "special region". The drawing is mine, but the "rendering" was done with AI to give a more topographical look at what it could look like. I plan to properly have it rendered by a person once its done as the AI has messed up things like the victor alert hangers being office buildings. Its not finished. The key is below:

  1. Main airfield. Built shortly after the construction of the docks, being built in collaboration with the Royal Engineers and the RED HORSE unit. It contains Victor alert hangers, hard standing aircraft parking, helicopter hangers, aircraft hangers, bomb storage and various offices and buildings to facilitate the running of the base.
  2. The docks. Built first after the arrival, it contains a small naval facility and currently houses the HMS Hermes (R12), which was not fully scrapped and given back to the UK specifically for the mission. It was the main runway for aircraft until the completion of the airfield but due to the hasty retrofit, only VTOL aircraft could use the ship. Several destroyers of both the Royal Navy and US navy dock here. The facility contains small offices and munitions and fuel stores. There is no dry dock, any repairs needed are done back on earth.
  3. Sports facilities. Contains various fields including US favourites, like baseball and a joint Rugby and American football fields. Smaller ball sports facilities are on site such as tennis and squash, as well as a gym. There is a running track with multi sports tracks. This is often shared with the students at the schools and the base personnel.
  4. The barracks complex. This contains all the single barracks buildings which are each several stories high. The combined capacity is just under 6200 when including all buildings and floors. The main building is a restored Elven manor house that sat on the site before the complex was built. The decision to restore it was to garner good will from the elves who gifted the land to the combined forces. It acts as the main HQ and parade grounds. There are several messes and club houses, as well as a main mess hall. It links with the entrance of the base, which contains several offices and a gate house. There are pathways that link to the buildings and the sports facilities. There are more barracks on Army sites.
  5. Residential housing. The decision to allow civilian families on the base was not met with great enthusiasm but nonetheless, it was done to keep morale and convince stationed staff to stay longer. It also allowed for roles to be filled by civilians in the shops and restaurants. It contains numerous terraced houses and flats for smaller families. There are school facilities for the children, and the decision was made to combine the US and UK curriculums. Shops and restaurants bridge between the barracks and residential areas and include franchises and a large commissary. Residents of both nations are free to shop at each other's commissary but require token currency, which can be exchanged at the bank. Earth currency is largely useless, and most people exchange it straight away on pay day.

International calling group?

For a long time, we have outright blocked international calls using the 3CX settings under allowed country codes, but now, some users need to dial out and don't want to request each time. I have tried to create an outbound rule with those users in it, but the allowed country codes seems to bypass all.

If I want this to work, how can I go about it? If it helps, I am in the UK and our dial out code is 00, so the US, I guess, would be 00 1

Tape back-up software help

Hi all,

I don't know if this is best place to ask, let me know if there are other subs that can help, but I have an HP StorageWorks Ultrium 960 stand alone tape drive that I want to use for backups. Specifically, long term backups of family photos and documents. This would be my third point of back up and be stored off site. I have verified the unit works and have a scsci card and cables but I am paranoid about being able to check to see if files exist on there and I am not just writing nothing to the tape.

I tested using the basic linux commands for tape drives and it worked (the tape at least moved on) but I was wondering if there is any GUI based software out there that can let me choose a folder or set of folders, back them up to the tape, and also see what data is on the tape.

Is it better to build my own or purchase a prebuilt as my first FPV drone?

I have been eager to get in to RC for a long time and I want to tinker with various RC vehicles like cars and aircraft, but FPV has always been a priority.

I understand basic electronics but my fear is buying the wrong parts or getting disheartened when it all comes together and just doesn't work.

Is it worth me buying a prebuilt kit somewhere like unmanned tech shop and then working backwards in to understanding how it all works? It would give me a baseline for upgrades and such. Or is it worth me gathering parts and learning as I go? It would be more expensive (if I end up with mismatched parts) but I could call that drone "mine" so to speak.

Any help for a newbie is appreciated.

UK Collectors, HMV is still stocking 86 on Blu-ray at a discount

I hope this is allowed but for anyone in the UK, HMV is still stocking 86 and at a discount. Given we may not get another print run for a while, it may be the best bet given amazon is no longer stocking it (last I checked anyway).

Go and support HMV as well, keeps a home brand going

I know these units are ancient, but I have come in to possession, for free, a 12 bay unit with all 12 bays filled with 2TB SAS drives, providing they work.

The only thing I know about it, is that it was potentially a cold storage server for archives.

My current NAS is literally a NUC, with about 6 USB hdds plugged in and no redundancy. My data lives on a knife edge.

Would it be overkill or even worth it, to shove trunas or OMV on it and just have it as raw storage? I do understand they are loud and power hungry but I am willing to splurge a little for quieter fans lower idle cpus, if they have them.

Is it worth it?

The member of staff was using it at the time, at home. We are going to investigate if this was an orignal battery or had one replaced at some point

I have seen a large number of posts on this sub about Alexa+ and how terrible it is, but I dont seem to be having any of the major issues that others are and I am enjoying the new update. For clarity, a lot of the routines are created and managed through home assistant and then called upon by Alexa.

Its possible I dont use Alexa as much as others, but one of the things that sold me on her intelligence and understanding context was when I asked her to tell me the upcoming events I had.

She said the following "You have one event planned this week, a magic the gathering pre-release at the mug and meeple, starting at 11am. I hope you have fun and win your games"

That impressed me immensely. Alexa has also improved my mums life, as she can now ask her questions and control smart objects without knowing keywords and direct commands. For example, my mum doesnt remember the old way to get Alexa to set the thermostat and turn on the living room radiator. All She has to do now is say "heat up the living room" or "Alexa, im cold" and Alexa can work out what to do.

Now, im not glazing Alexa as I am fully aware she has issues but I find the AI conversations easier to rectify problems than before. She often gets alarm times wrong, but if I ask her to double check that or tell her it's wrong, the conversation flows semi naturally.

She is also much slower than before. Taking a few more seconds to action commands, ironically my Gen 2 Dot is faster than my echo show so its device based but not generation based.

I can only hope Amazon dont abandon this and continue to work on Alexa+, as until the HA AI assistant gets better and I can work out how to set it up, she's staying.
