Can I install Android on a separate microSD and keep my Switch completely stock?

Hi everyone!

I have a completely stock Nintendo Switch OLED with both digital and physical games. I was wondering if it’s possible to install Android on a separate 64 GB microSD card and, when booting the console, choose between the official Nintendo system (which is already installed on the console) and Android running from the microSD.

My main goal would be to use something like RetroArch to emulate older systems such as Nintendo 64 or 3DS.

I’m a bit lost because I’ve seen different information. Some people say Android should be installed directly on the console, while others say you should use different SD cards or switch between them.

I also have a few questions:

Is it possible to keep my Switch completely stock and install Android only on a microSD card?

Can I choose between the official Nintendo OS and Android when booting?

Is there any risk of getting my Nintendo account or console banned?

If I do this, do I need to keep playing my normal Switch games offline?

Would my digital and physical games remain completely unaffected?

I’m not planning to modify or pirate anything on the Nintendo side. I’d like to keep my normal Switch setup as untouched as possible and only use Android separately for emulation.

Thanks in advance!

Fresh Bazzite install - Counter-Strike 2 stuck compiling Vulkan shaders and runs at 10 FPS

A few days ago I asked whether my PC could run Bazzite without losing performance, and many of you encouraged me to give it a try. I installed it yesterday, and honestly, I'm really impressed so far.

I like how easy everything is to set up and the overall compatibility has been great. However, I've run into one issue that I haven't been able to solve.

When I launch Counter-Strike 2, it spends around 30 minutes compiling Vulkan shaders every single time I start the game. Whether I let it finish or skip it, the game gets past the Valve logo, reaches the main menu, and then runs at about 10 FPS.

The strange part is that I also tested The Forest and it actually performs about 20 FPS better than it did on Windows, so this seems to be something specific to CS2 rather than a general performance issue.

I've been doing some research and found mixed suggestions. Some people recommend forcing Proton 9 or Proton Experimental, while most others say the native Linux version works perfectly and that forcing Proton isn't worth the risk because of VAC. I also saw people recommending disabling Steam's shader pre-caching, but that doesn't really sound like a proper solution.

Has anyone experienced this before or knows what might be causing it?

I boot into Desktop Mode (I use this PC for work), not Game Mode/Big Picture.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: When I launch Counter-Strike 2, Steam consumes all the resources, not the game.

Thinking of switching to Bazzite: How well does it perform with Intel + NVIDIA?

Hi everyone!

I've been using Windows for over 25 years, but recently I've been trying Linux Mint on my laptop, and I'm really enjoying it.

Now I'm thinking about switching my desktop PC to Bazzite. I mainly use it for game development in Unity and Godot, so compatibility isn't really a concern since both work well on Linux.

What I'm most curious about is gaming performance. My PC has an Intel CPU and an NVIDIA GPU, and I've heard that this isn't always the best combination on Linux. I've searched around and found a lot of conflicting information, some people say it works great, others say it has issues, so I figured it would be better to ask people who actually use Bazzite.

Do you think Bazzite would work well with my PC? Should I expect any noticeable performance loss in games?

Someone even told me I could lose around 30% of my GPU performance, which sounds pretty extreme. Is there any truth to that?

A Relic From the First Month

I haven't played this game in years, but while checking my inventory, I discovered I still have this. I tried the game during its first month.

My Small Cape Collection

I've been playing since version beta, and this is my small cape collection. I think I was one of the first players from Argentina to join the game. I'm pretty sure there were fewer than 1000 of us back then. It's amazing to look back and see how much the game and its community have grown over the years!

How can I display estimated GPU memory usage like this in Godot?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if you know of any addons or methods to measure how many resources my game is consuming. I've seen a lot of games that display things like estimated GPU memory usage, texture memory load, and other graphics-related metrics.

I'd like to implement something similar in Godot, but I'm not sure if it's possible or if there are existing tools that can help with it.

Has anyone done this before or can recommend an addon or approach?

Thanks!

Just finished The Witcher 3 for the first time… I think I understand the three swords now

I just finished The Witcher 3 for the first time, and now I think I understand the theory about the three swords in the new DLC.

Ciri gives her sword back to Geralt when she leaves for Nilfgaard, but in The Witcher 4 trailer she has it again. Looking at the promotional artwork for the new DLC, where Geralt is carrying three swords, it made me wonder if he might be going to Nilfgaard to return it to her.
