Have you ever had someone offer you hand-me-downs, you gratefully accepted and then they didn’t follow through?

Why do people do that? And why am I too shy or forgetful to follow up 🤦🏻‍♀️. Anyone else or do I just have flaky friends/family?

[IL] - Companies that give tuition reimbursement, do they reimburse for mileage/travel costs for the employee getting to/from their classes or school too or just the tuition cost?

Are there any other associated costs that are typically covered? I’m sure it varies by company but curious what large firms typically cover. Thanks!

If you run an errand for work or take a visiting client out to lunch and drive…do you expense the mileage?

Mileage meaning gas, car wear & tear, etc. I never thought to do this but I guess it’s fair? Some examples:

- driving to the store to buy supplies for a work-related event or celebration.
- driving your car to take a client out to lunch during the workday.
- driving to buy a client gift.

Have you ever had someone tell you they were giving or sending you a gift and they just didn’t follow through?

For your wedding, birthday, bridal or baby shower, your child’s birthday, etc.

What was the occasion? And why do people do that?

Why are expensive bachelorette parties/trips a hot topic but not bachelor parties?

It comes up fairly often and it was a topic today on my local morning radio show 🤣. Women were calling in to vent or support these milestone parties and trips. To be clear, I did not have anything like that. Just a drunk night out on the town 🙈.

Anyway, for all of the bachelor parties and trips my husband has gone on he’s spent way more money than any bachelorette party I’ve attended. His cost has been up there with the spendy bachelorette parties people talk about. But why don’t the guys’ trips ever get called out? Let’s call them out here! 😆

[IL] - Employees who refer family members who get hired…

I’ve worked places where many employees have been related - like parents and kids, siblings, cousins, siblings in-law, etc or close friends prior to working together. There’s nothing wrong with that of course and better for the company if a good employee can vouch for someone.

But I always wondered, do those hires get offered a higher salary because they’re related to a current employee vs someone coming off the street with no connections? Is that a thing? Thanks.

How would you feel if you gave your bridal party free (comped) rooms at the hotel and they didn’t reciprocate for their weddings (for which they also had free rooms to share)?

Looking for a reality check. They’re super well-off (family money and high-paying jobs) if that makes a difference. They also stayed at our place for days before and after our wedding, many more times in the couple years following when they needed a place to stay while in town, we paid for all food, they borrowed our car, didn’t fill gas, didn’t even cover tolls 🤷🏻‍♀️. Do we just need better friends lol? Has anyone else felt let down by friends like this?

Back in the early 2000s, could Marriott employees get discounts for their friends & family for a wedding/wedding reception?

Or even just for hotel rooms for the wedding or otherwise? Has it changed since then? Thanks!

Is your baby ever served avocado at daycare?

Is it ever on the menu? Beginning at what age? Or only at bougie daycares 😆? I imagine cost + being perishable is a factor but just curious. Do you feel like your daycares provide good nutrition to your little ones? Thanks!

If a couple has an engagement ceremony prior to the wedding, do you give a separate gift for that?

I wouldn’t go empty-handed, but do you give the same amount in TOTAL to the couple regardless of how many events they have or do you give more $$$ the more events they have?

Example (if engagement event) - do you give say $51 for engagement and $101 for wedding but then for another couple with no engagement event do you give $101 for the wedding or $151?

Do you give a separate/additional gift for a night-before Sangeet? If not, why an extra gift for the engagement and not Sangeet? Thank you!

Assuming your parents had the means, did they give you big gifts for your milestone events like a piece of furniture for your first home, big ticket baby gift, etc?

Do they make it a point to be “even” among all their children/grandchildren?

Assuming your parents had the means, did they give you big gifts for your milestone events like a piece of furniture for your first home, big ticket baby gift, etc?

I read comments on here about parents buying their adult kids furniture for their first home, or the crib/nursery furniture for their baby. I know this is all materialistic but my parents (who have the means) are just not like that. I have an older sibling, no clue what they did for them. My in-laws are the same but I do happen to know that they bought my BIL/SIL the crib and mattress for their child. Is there a secret to this, do you drop hints? 🤣

How are your parents? And do they make a point to be “even” among all their grown children and grandchildren? Do you have to be bold and ask? I will admit, if anyone asks what we need for anything I always say “nothing” because that’s just my nature.

Do you give new baby gifts when you’re not invited to the (local to you) baby shower or vice versa have you received gifts in this scenario?

Sorry, not a crunchy question but I wanted to poll 🤣. I’ve been like Oprah for as long as I can remember, “YOU get a gift! YOU get a gift!” My spouse is telling me to chill out a little so I’m wondering what etiquette people follow. Thanks!

Investment properties - is my future SIL out to scam us?

I’ll preface this by saying we are newly engaged in our early-mid 20s. My fiancee’s brother and his wife are 11 years older. They’re both extremely well-educated and have had high-powered careers in finance and consulting. My fiancee is dazzled by their accomplishments but I’m more wary of people in general 🤣 and also of investing with family. Anyway, she recently bought condos as an investment property. My fiancee forwarded me this email from her. I am not that educated in investing in general but how on earth can you get a 10% return after only 2-3 months?? Is it even possible? Also, English is not her first language so any grammar issues are *not* a red flag. Like I said, she’s super smart which makes me even more on guard…

“Lastly I am very excited, last Saturday the condo developer’s agent accepted my offer so we will own 5 condos in July. It seems like we are going to be able to manage the financing on our own. I am getting 7% cash back at closing and I just need to put 5% down.
The first two condos are going to be in the market in October, so I am very confident we can have some of the investing liquid by early next year (Jan/Feb). However, if you want to invest but want your invetment 100% liquid, I can take your money and put it in my bank account without actually using it ( in order to show more cash reserves and make sure the financing goes through without any problems). Investing in the actual condo project will give you a 20% APR, Putting your money in my bank account (100% liquid 2-3 months after closing) will give you a 10% APR.
Think about it and let me know, we come back May 22.”

If you’re going to someone’s place for a potluck or a meal, do you bring more items to share or gift to the host if you’re bringing spouse/kids vs attending alone?

Does my question make sense? Like is your contribution or host gift “bigger” because it’s from more people? My spouse thinks I’m being extra sometimes 🤣 but I want to be considerate of the fact that there’s 2, 4, 5, etc of us going. Curious about other people’s customs.

How about when you attended alone?

Or just give that?

Second-guessing OB’s instructions?

I had my bloodwork done and one of things checked was my Vitamin D levels. It came back low/deficient which is no surprise because I’ve been low in the past and I know many people are.

Anyway, the nurse called me and said per my OB, to take a 2,000 iu supplement. I asked if it should be 2,000 ius including what is already in my prenatal vitamin (1,000 iu) or on top of it. She asked and then said 2,000 total, so including what’s in my pnv.

But now that I think about it, that doesn’t really make sense. If the rec for my level of D is to take a 2,000 iu supplement, shouldn’t that disregard the amount I’ve been taking for months that has gotten me to the still low level lol? I’d think it should be 2,000 iu on top of what I’ve already been taking. Ugh. I don’t want to ask again bc they told me their answer. Should I just take more anyway? Thanks!

It’s kind of been the nature of our relationship…she has all these “ideas” and I get stuck doing the legwork, paying for it, etc. It’s like the whole when someone says jump you ask how high thing. BUT, we’ve been friends since middle school and I care about her a lot.

Anyway, the place where she works was promoting this charity hike. You have to fundraise a minimum of $5,000 over the course of a few months and you go on a guided hike into the Grand Canyon. You have to pay for your flights and transportation to/from the hotel but the rest is covered in your fundraising. I agreed and the charity is reputable. She ended up abruptly dropping out when she realized she’d have to donate a lot out of pocket.

I will have to donate a lot out of pocket too…but what bugs me is that after she was the one who persuaded me into this, she didn’t donate to my fundraising at all. She can afford to, she buys other frivolous stuff. It makes me sad that she won’t help after this was all her idea. Is my expectation unreasonable? Thank you for listening.
