Treatment for Tommy

Update: The chlorhexidine wipes arrived from Amazon on Tuesday, July 2.

Since I started applying the wipes to the area, Tommy has been doing really well. The first day, I waited until he was distracted and eating. When I dabbed the area, he looked back at me because he felt something cold on his back, but he didn't run. He just went right back to eating. I kept dabbing the area until I felt it was saturated, then I stopped.

Since then, Tommy hasn't been putting up much of a fuss. This morning, he was curled up in a ball on his bed, so I thought, "This will be the perfect time to apply the wipe." Once again, he just laid there and let me do it. He's being such a good boy. 🩶🐾🐈

So rewarding

Living alone is one of life's simplest pleasures. You don't have to put up with other people's drama. You can come and go as you please. You make your own rules. You don't have to answer to anyone. You can clean your house when you're good & ready. Peace & quiet are life's greatest treasures.

Missing Fur

This isn't really a question, just something that caught my attention.

Early Tuesday morning I noticed what looked like a tiny white spot between my cat Tommy's shoulder blades. At first I didn't think much of it because he has some white fur, and you could only see it when he turned a certain way.

Yesterday, while I was giving him a treat, I noticed the area looked larger. I took a closer picture and realized the pink I was seeing was actually exposed skin where some of his fur is missing.

Tommy isn't scratching at it, licking it, acting painful, or behaving any differently. He's eating, drinking, and acting completely normal. The only thing I can think of is that he may have scraped himself crawling under my bed since my bed frame is metal and that's one of his favorite hiding spots.

I also spoke with my veterinarian's office and explained everything I had observed. They advised me to use chlorhexidine wipes twice a day for about a week, dabbing the area instead of wiping it so I don't irritate the skin. They also told me to keep a close eye on it. If it becomes red, swollen, starts bothering Tommy, or changes in any way, they'll have me bring him in so the doctor can examine him and determine whether it's a scrape, allergy-related, or something else.

Has anyone else had a cat suddenly lose a patch of fur like this that turned out to be a scrape or another minor injury? I just wanted to share my experience because at first I thought it was just white fur until I looked more closely.

Season 14 Finale

OMG! I just watched it. I know I'm a little behind, but wow! I always try my hardest to keep up with the show. I absolutely love the crossovers and the finales. They always have me on the edge of my seat. I cannot wait until the show returns. I had a feeling something epic was going to happen at the end. I'm so happy for Cruz & Chloe. 🩷🍼 x2 🚒👩🏾‍🚒🔥🚑

Dry Cat Food Sample Bags

First of all, let me point this out: "This is not a question, just a preference of mine."

I wish dry cat food came in smaller bags, almost like sample sizes. I'd hate to spend $20 or $30 on a bag only to find out Tommy doesn't like it.

I'd really like to introduce proteins like lamb, herring, and rabbit, but I'm not sure if he'll eat them. So far, he's only had chicken, turkey, salmon, Temptations Seafood Medley (salmon & shrimp), and Temptations Block Party Medley (beef, chicken & cheese).

If he doesn't like it, I'm sure I'll just feed it to the stray kitties where I live or at my job, so it definitely wouldn't go to waste. Even so, having to spend that much money on a bag of food your cat may not like can be frustrating.

Recent Bloodwork

I went in Friday morning and finally had my blood work done. My doctor mainly wanted to see where my A1C was before refilling my prescriptions since I'm a new patient of hers.

Honestly, I was expecting my A1C to be higher, so when I saw the results, I was pleasantly surprised. I've been living with diabetes for many years, so this isn't a new diagnosis. I've had my share of highs and lows over the years.

I always get nervous when it's time for this test. Truth be told, I've been known to put it off for months. This time, though, I was running low on my medications, so I had to bite the bullet and get it done.

When I go back for my appointment, there will definitely be a little negotiating on my part. I'm going to ask her to repeat my blood work in three months because I truly believe I can bring these numbers down. I've been on this roller coaster for a long time. I know exactly what I should and shouldn't be doing. Too often I've leaned toward the things I shouldn't do, but I'm getting older, and I genuinely want to get this under control once and for all.

Brands of Cat Food / Lickable Treats / Broths

Hi! I just joined this subreddit, and I have a question about the food you all are feeding your cats. What is your go-to brand of food, and do you feed your cats dry and wet food or one or the other? I need some suggestions on which brand is best to feed my cat. Thank you for any and all suggestions.

A refreshing snack

Hi, I'm new to this subreddit, and I am a Type 2 diabetic.

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a graduation party, and they served tacos with cucumbers and radishes on the side. I decided to add some salsa to a cup and started dipping the cucumbers in the salsa. When I tasted it, it was so amazing and refreshing.

After the party and my next visit to the grocery store, I decided to pick up some cucumbers and some fresh salsa from a corner store near my house.

I came home this afternoon after work and said, "Oh yeah, I forgot about the cucumbers and salsa. I'm going to have that today for a snack because it's actually 100° outside today, and I wanted something refreshing."

So I just wanted to share that with you all. 🥒🌶️
