What if we had more frequent wipes?

I was just talking with my friend after a 5 hour session the other day. He’s more casual, but he used to play a lot of Tarkov, which had a lot of the same complaints he said that Marathon had.

We then started talking about the frequency of wipes in Tarkov compared to Marathon, and he mentioned that he felt that if wipes happened more often in Marathon it would work in the game’s favor.

I’m kind of inclined to agree. Not every wipe necessarily needs to bring in new content.

My friend explained that he felt that what made those frequent wipes feel so good was that everyone would hop back on because the best part of a wipe was the beginning, where everyone was fighting on an even playing field.

To that point, giving cosmetics or silk or even a small portion of the paid currency instead of sponsored kits for your time in a previous wipe would probably do wonders for making new players feel welcome. I remember being showered with kits for my time in S1 and wondering why they thought this would be a good idea considering newer players and all.

What do you guys think?

A Question Related To Graphics & Performance with an RTX 3060.

I love this game. It's awesome. The gameplay is some of the best in an open world RPG I've ever played.

I've always wanted to push the graphics however much I can with my settings, but I'm a little frustrated...You see, I have an Nvidia RTX 3060 with 12 GB of VRAM, and 32 GB of DDR5 which I luckily purchased before the dark dark days of the AI Krash.

I try to find settings via Youtube and Reddit to use based on my GPU. I'll find videos specifically using an RTX 3060, and when they show 70+ FPS, I'll copy the exact settings they have, and get ~40-50 FPS. This is doubly frustrating because I even turned RT and PT off, and I'm on 1080p.

I have mods installed and that could play a role, but I don't think I have any that actually affect performance in terms of graphics. Is there something I'm missing? I've been trying to figure this out for a long time. No matter what I do, despite even sometimes having better specs than the recommended settings have, my frame rates are always lower.

I've considered trying out NCR (mod collection), but I meet the recommended settings and with my experience when it comes to performance (where the game either looks like radio static shit or it looks decent but runs like ass), I'm hesitant to try it. Is there something I'm not considering that can be worsening my performance? I'm prepared to uninstall any mods that might be worsening performance aside from gameplay ones. I just want to figure this out to have a smooth experience with the game.

Edit:

Here are the specs to help:

I have both the mods and the game installed on a 1TB NVME SSD.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core Processor (4.70 GHz)

RAM: DDR5 32 GB

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (12 GB)

This is the mod collection.

Core Temps:

  • Minimum Temps: 69 degrees celsius
  • Max Temps: 84 degrees celsius
  • Average Temps: 78 degrees celsius

With all this, I get ~40-50 FPS.

Kinetic Labs Moon v2 Switches - Review

This won't be as in-depth as other switch reviews have been. I'm mostly making this because the Moons were one of the best and worst switches I've ever used.

They sounded great in my board which was a plus, but on top of that, the nylon housing made the bottom out feel cushioned in a very satisfying way. I love a heavier linear too, and so these were perfect for what I wanted.

However...there's a problem with the Moons that I was oblivious to for months. I thought my PCB maybe was broken, so I was close to buying a brand new PCB. Turns out, the switches are quite inconsistent. This is only an issue I've ever experienced using the Moon v2s: They don't always register when you press the keys.

I don't know if this is due to the build quality, or something about the design of the Moons, but maybe 15-20 out of the 90 I purchased have this issue. Sometimes, they won't respond to a keypress until you hit it really hard a couple times. This makes them awful for pretty much everything that you'd do with switches on a daily basis, making them pretty annoying. So despite the amazing feel and sound I had with these bad boys, they fall flat for how inconsistent they can be.

I swapped my board back to an older set of Gat Box Ink Blacks and the keys respond perfectly fine, no issues at all. This was what made me realize it was the Moons. Because of the inconsistency in how well they responded when typing or pressing keys, it can't go any higher than a 5/10 for the Kinetic Labs Moon v2 Linear Switches.

Trying to find a very specific kind of switch...

Recently, I purchased ~10 each of some switches I wanted to give a try.

Two stood out to me above the others: Invokeys Matcha Reserve, and Gateron EF Curry.

The Matcha Reserve's POM housing is incredibly pleasant, but I began to realize I wanted the light diffuser present in the Curry.

From there, I discovered the Gateron Smoothie switches. I was considering getting some of these to test out, however, I've been reading online about how inconsistent the factory lubing is for these switches. They've also got a lighter actuation and bottom-out than I'm used to, but open to trying.

TLDR: If anyone has recommendations for full POM housing switches with a light diffuser that have good build quality that I should be considering aside from the Smoothies, I'd love to know about them. I'm sorry if this isn't the place to ask this kind of question, I just can't find anywhere online to ask this type of question aside from here.

I'd also be interested in making frankenswitches to better suit my preferences, but I've never actually done such a thing, and it sounds expensive (needing to purchase multiple sets of switches).

Cryo = Highest of Highs & Lowest of Lows

When playing with my friends who don't play as much as I do, I always get really anxious playing Cryo. But for some reason, I was feeling really confident with them this time. I think I've learned the map enough to boost my confidence a bit.

Anyways, we actually managed to get to a team that was still clearing their first room, and we mopped the floor with em!

Then, we found a gold shield team and had a small skirmish before deciding we wanted to back off. We went and found Vault 1 opened up, and looted the scraps. After getting back to control, I used my Recon ult and discovered the team was just two hallways away from us.

But...there was a 4th blip, and we heard shooting.

I saw this as our chance to 3rd party, and so we booked it around the corner. Jackpot!

5 people facing away from us or on the ground. I spammed all my nades, and we cleaned up the rest of the runners that were left from the wake of our nades. We hit the motherlode, we even got a DNA Access Card! Which, I'm not exactly sure what to do with since I only have subroutines 1-3, but still cool.

Anyways, this match provided one of the highest of highs after looting all the golds and misriahs these guys had on them and making it out. I feel much more confident in my abilities after this match.

Build crafting might need some work

I love the game, don’t get me wrong.

I do think that when they were making promotion material, build crafting especially with the introduction of the Cradle was hyped up as being this holy grail of build crafting.

I LOVE discovering unique builds in games, it’s my favorite part about Destiny! But in Marathon? I don’t know, it’s hard to feel the impact at times. And the cradle letting you max out all but one stat makes me start to notice everyone is running the same exact cradle once they’re maxed out regardless of their shell…you know, everything but the support stat basically.

I try to be conscious of what implants I’m using, but there’s not a lot that seem to have unique interactions based on what shell you’re using either.

What do you guys think? Am I wrong? If not, how would you change up some of the systems to create room for more unique builds?

Upper Complex Makes Me Feel Crazy

I'm just making this post because I feel like I'm the only one not getting it...

My squad has been trying to do one successful upper complex run since the start of the season.

I don't know what we're missing here, but we never get the key in time to do everything. We usually do ~80% of the network terminals on the map before eventually finding an observation labs key instead through a convoy or a commander that spawned in late in the round, and then we have to fight at least 1-2 teams in order to just enter...usually leaving us ~5 minutes or less to do all of upper complex.

I don't get how people are consistently farming upper complex, it feels like it'd be a "god run" to get the observation labs key early in a run considering how rare they've been for my team.

Is this a common experience, or are we just doing something wrong here? I feel crazy. I can do Cryo vaults and all of Pinwheel without issue, but upper complex is a whole other beast...

Edit: Also very annoying that you get completely locked out of the boss and loot room meaning if someone else beats you by just a few seconds because they were a little luckier you just are completely screwed out of any chance. I am saying this after this happened to my team for the third time just now.

How long does a stealth behavior system take to develop?

Hey all,

This is a development related question, but I figure if there's developers who like stealth games out there, they'd probably be in this subreddit.

I wanted to know how long it took Looking Glass and other similar projects to get a functioning behavior system for the AI in Thief-like games.

I was, a while back, developing my own stealth-based RPG inspired by Thief and other titles and I remember by the end of the 6 months of me working on it, I had barely gotten it to a "passable" state, aside from AI not being able to navigate around the map yet. This was on Godot.

I wanted to know if anyone else has tried, and how long it took them to see if maybe my own first iteration took so long because I was overcomplicating things, or what. I'd be interested if anyone has experience with this.

Need Help Learning the .50 Akimbo

I love learning off meta weapons. I've had a lot of fun with the minigun too, but the .50 Akimbo...they're a whole other beast.

I refuse to drop the deags, but never have I suffered more trying to learn a weapon than the deags. I've been only playing the deags for a few days now, and I'm always near the bottom in terms of especially the combat score.

I'm struggling to win gunfights at pretty much every range, because I miss so many shots all the time. I've watched Ekazo's .50 Akimbo tutorial and I understand that you have to pace your shots, and when to aim and when to hipfire and when to crouch. But there's just something about the deags that makes me miss most of my shots.

Does anyone have advice for this? I refuse to drop the .50 Akimbo, but this is the hardest weapon I've used so far in The Finals

What's your go-to Minigun Loadout?

Hello fellow Minigun enjoyers,

I just started playing The Finals and quickly discovered I love the Heavy class. And...that I love the minigun. I wanted to see what loadouts people in the community who use the minigun frequently like to run, and I'd love some tips for using the gun as well (Positioning tips, strategy, etc.).

Right now, I use Winch + Minigun, Dome, RPG, and Healing Emitter.

But the RPG seems to be inconvenient (even though I love it usually with other weapons) due to the wind-up of the minigun. But destructibility is important with the cashout.

New Contestant Here - Solo Queue Advice?

Hey all, started playing 2 days ago and I can’t stop playing/thinking about the game.

Thought I’d end up playing Light mostly but I started playing Heavy exclusively yesterday and I now love Heavy.

I’ve been watching Lamp a lot and learning plenty about loadouts and generally how to fight as Heavy, but I’m on a quest to learn everything I can about the class to see how I can improve.

So Heavy players, and Finals experts, what’s some useful advice for a solo queue beginner playing mostly Heavy? I’m interested in niche techniques that can be useful if not situationally, how to not die too much, what I can do to improve my odds of winning in solo queue, and maybe if there’s some movement tech available to Heavy.

I usually run the Shak-50 or SA1216. Mesh Shield with Shak, and Wynch with SA1216. I always run Dome shield, RPG, and C4. If there’s other options I’m not considering that I should, I’d love to hear about them! I’m happy to try out anything.

Hi all, I'm sure that this question has been asked a million times, as I've read a lot of posts about it, but none have really given me clarity on my version of it.

I have had a tough time putting Outward down the past few days. I can't complete a fair portion of the activities in Chersonese, but I've spent so much time there now, that I am ready to go and see a new land. I've heard Enmerkar is the next place to check out, but how do I know if I'm ready?

I have a fair bit of silver (4 gold bars), full blue sand armor, and a prayer claymore. I've done some bandit camps and conflux mountain and I was curious what the next "thing I should do" is in order to naturally progress my skills and equipment. Any advice is appreciated!

Hi! I'm usually pretty into rogues and magic in fantasy adventures.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a build for a new player that kind of fits in with magic and rogues? I'm playing with some friends and so stealth may be hard to pull off (they probably won't let me do stealth that much lol), but generally I like melee + magic if I can't have a rogue + magic type build.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Edit: I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who suggested a build, I'm super glad there's lots of appealing options that fit the niche archetype I asked about. I appreciate you guys helping me out with this! I don't know a lot about the game, but with time, I'll understand and be working towards the artificer build suggested by u/Gabe7712, and in my own singleplayer save, I plan to experiment more with everything everyone suggested!

Hey, I have a friend who has Definitive Edition of the game. However, my other friend and I own the original version of the game. We wanted to play with the Raid Mode mod, however, our friend who owns the Definitive Edition can't get Thunderstore to launch the vanilla version of the game. And he plays Definitive when we're not playing together.

I know this is likely a niche problem, but does anyone know how my friend can get Thunderstore to launch the vanilla version of the game?

We've tried changing what folder Thunderstore uses as the "game files", and still, it will only launch the game with the Definitive version.

Update: I decided to make this question easier to read.

Basically, on my phone on the Prime Video app, I'm able to watch whatever I want. It knows I have a Prime account (I'm a part of a family Prime account).

However, when I go on my computer to watch something, Amazon acts like I don't have Prime and expects me to pay $15/month despite me already having Prime. I can see in my account that I do have prime, but for some reason, it acts like I don't.

If anyone knows how to fix this, I'd love to know so I can watch seasons 3 and 4 of Invincible.
