What introduced you to Infocom???

My brother who was the proud owner of a spanking new, whiz bang Commodore 64, 1541 disc drive, printer and plotter also received Zork 1 and Starcross and began spending time with his friends after school huddled around the desktop drinking soda, mapping graph paper and discussing the latest game puzzle they’d stumbled across while Journey hummed on the hi fi. I was the annoying eight year old brother - moving between GI Joes, my afternoon cartoons and these seemingly impossible puzzles they were working on. I was intrigued by the images my imagination conjured of the descriptions on the blue and white monitor screen.

Before long I’d acquired Sorcerer and Infidel for myself on my less impressive Atari 800XL. I REALLY struggled to just get out of the sorcerers guild but I loved considering the options and ways I could progress in the game. I picked up everything - something I STILL do in games like the newer Zelda games. I got a bit better but I was still young and the puzzles remained super challenging for my preteen brain.

Years passed - Hitchhiker came out, then Leather Goddesses, Ballyhoo, Moonmist, Plundered Hearts. I noticed the games were becoming increasingly hard to find - sometimes I’d see one at Waldenbooks but they were pretty hard to find - until they weren’t anywhere.

This was pre internet so I didn’t really have any idea Activision had bought them and frankly my mind was starting to turn to dirt bikes and girls more than lamps and mapping graph paper. I was delighted when Lost Treasures 1 and 2 came out and snatched them up for what, at such a young age, were already reasons of nostalgia. Then in my adult years the digital Lost Treasures came out and unfortunately fell away because Activision wouldn’t update the app.

So here I am today - still super nostalgic about these games that captured my imagination almost 40 years ago and are still with me.

Odometer Repair

I’m needing help with my odometer repair on a 1991 Jaguar XJ-S and while it’s out I want the bulbs exchanged for a brighter bulb - probably LED. I’m betting one of those little plastic cogs that mechanically turn the numbers has disintegrated. I’ve replaced one of these before in a 91 Volvo but I don’t have the free time I once had in my youth. I’d ideally like to visit a shop in my area but that’s probably not likely. Speedo and all other dials work fine.

Think I should switch out Wharfdales for Bose?

Found some Bose 301 ii for $285 locally and I’m thinking about swapping them for my Wharfdale e50’s. It’s partly about space as the Bose are bookshelf and I don’t burn the house down volume wise like I used to. Running a h/k 330c and a Dual 1225. Thoughts?

I’m considering this speaker as a satellite for my Telefunken Sonata console. It’s not cheap so I need to have a pretty solid plan to rejuvenate the grill cloth because those stains aren’t gonna fly with my perfectionist nature. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about removing the stains???

And now my son is out of his car seat and in a booster which means we can ride in the XJ-S together. In 9 years it will be his.

Are these two tone arms interchangeable? My current setup does not have the speed selector (504) on the end but the parts one I purchased does(501). What’s the likely hood of them being swapped out? Thanks in advance.

My wife who isn’t a car person has admitted to me she has always wanted a Discovery 2 (she didn’t know what it was - I had to find it). I’ve been in the space of thinking about a new car (have an ‘18 Ford Expedition now) and have honestly been waiting for the new Scouts to come out. However, new car prices are just - out of control. I was talking to a buddy who tells me - buy an older car you always wanted and whatever you spend at the mechanic will be way less than a new car. So I’m considering a Discovery 2.

I have always been told to avoid this car at all costs. But I’m exploring. Here’s what I think I know so far (It isn’t much)

  1. Want a 2004

  2. Make sure head gaskets are good

  3. Needs to be rust free

What else? (I also work with an old retired mechanic on his lift that lets me do the work while he instructs for $25 an hour plus parts) if that matters.

This would our primary car. The other car is a 1991 Jaguar XJS coupe.

It didn’t happen so it hasn’t been written. You’re inside Mike’s brain and responsible for his lyrical contribution. Lionel and Michael said it’s ok if he writes his own. Well???
