Stealth gameplay in Alpha Spectrum cyberpunk RPG

Stealth gameplay in Alpha Spectrum cyberpunk RPG

Hey folks, I'd like to share a gameplay video about stealth in Alpha Spectrum. It's a globetrotting cyberpunk RPG set in different environments, this time in the Middle East. In an earlier post a few weeks ago, I showed how you can use stealth-focused ARPG skills to distract the guards, creating a diversion, or temporarily disable a patrol, encouraging dynamic gameplay.

In this short example, I'm sneaking through the guards in a dangerous place, observing their positions and behavior. The mechanics were heavily inspired by Commandos, where the guards operate with cones of vision and hearing detection ranges.

It's important to clarify that this is not a stealth-only game, it's a situational feature.

Hope you enjoyed it:) Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2965560/Alpha_Spectrum/

How Alpha Spectrum brings immersive sim elements into isometric view

Hey folks, I'd like to share a short example of how immersive sim elements work in isometric view in Alpha Spectrum, where different gameplay systems interact with each other. Since no markers tell you the right way, you're expected to observe the situation and choose your own approach.

In this example, I was sent on an optional side mission to retrieve the Iron Core from a makeshift Mercenary Base. After realizing the two other entrances were guarded by deadly Tesla Coils, I'm trying out different ways to deal with the encounter:

00:00 – I use the hacking minigame to disable the laser fence, which is blocking my way into the base.

00:11 – With the fence disabled, I sneak inside, using stealth to avoid the guards and making my way toward the objective. Notice the optional bonus objective, "Remain Unseen", which grants additional rewards upon success.

00:19 – However I can complete it with a different approach if I want, by using a security keycard I looted earlier, allowing me to bypass hacking altogether (you can also skip the minigame by using a crafted hacking device).

00:24 – I decided that I prefer attacking the guards instead of using stealth, which might be faster, yield some random loot, but it makes me lose the bonus reward.

The target item is a bit further inside, and if I unplug the core, it disables the Tesla Coils I mentioned above (they are not visible in this short video).

Hope you enjoyed it:) Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2965560/Alpha_Spectrum/

How Shadowrun Hong Kong inspired me to work on my game, Alpha Spectrum

Hi everyone! I would like to tell you my story and how it connects to Shadowrun. Back in 2017, my friend convinced me to start working on my game. He was not really a hardcore gamer, I tried to explain to him that I wanted something like Deus Ex, but in isometric RPG form, but he didn't get it.

I said, you know what, let me do something quick. I made a short video for him, I recorded a scene of Shadowrun Hong Kong, on the streets near the port, and I put an expressive music of composer Enigma TNG under it. I said, "look, this is very similar to what I want". He immediately understood. And soon after, the project began. Unfortunately my friend is no longer with us to see it unfold.

About 8 years later, Alpha Spectrum is approaching completion. I'd like to share it as it features fantasy and magical elements blending into cyberpunk, and I thought it could be interesting for the community. The protagonist is a CIA agent with psionic powers of unknown origin, broadening the scope with mystical elements.

Check it out on Steam if you're interested:

I'd like to thank Harebrained Schemes for being an inspiration, and the Shadowrun community for keeping their spirit alive.

Seeking advices for C180 W205 maintenance risks

Hi everyone. I'm considering to buy a used 2017-2018 C180 M274 (W205). If I understood correctly, the piston wrist pin issues were fixed after 2015, so buying 2016+ examples are safer. I have a few questions.

Would you buy one with manual gearbox, or it'd be hard to sell it later? Go for 7G-Tronic/9G-Tronic instead?

The problem is that I don't know anyone who owns a car like this, so I learned about some potential issues with chatgpt, but I'd like to hear the opinion of real owners if possible. Let's say the car has about 100.000 km / 62.000 miles, and verifiable service history.

A few potential issues sound concerning:

- timing chain and tensioner
- camshaft adjusters
- pcv valve
- water pump
- thermostat
- 9G-Tronic mechatronic unit

Asking AI it always speaks like these are inevitable near this mileage and may cost a fortune :D I'm pretty sure they would never break all at once, or need multiple replacements in a few years, haha :D It cannot be that problematic :)

What is your experience with this car?

Alpha Spectrum, a cyberpunk RPG where the world collapses after a massive cyberattack

Hey everyone!:) I'm Adam, a solo indie developer. I would like to share my story-driven cyberpunk RPG, Alpha Spectrum. It was heavily inspired by Deus Ex.

The protagonist is a CIA agent with psionic abilities. Humanity is dangerously reliant on modern technology, and when a devastating cyberattack turns the world into chaos, it all collapses. You are sent to investigate... but soon you start questioning the systems you trust...

This gameplay video takes place after the collapse. The agent is trying to find a way around the police checkpoint.

I decided to attack the guards for a bit of chaos :D

Kanyhalos, author of Oblivion Lost mods, looking to reconnect:)

Hey fellow Stalkers! I am Kanyhalos, author of the old Oblivion Lost mods for Shadow of Chernobyl. I saw the news of the STALKER2 DLC finally featuring the NPP, and it came to mind there must be a subreddit for the game, haha XD Are there any old (and new XD) STALKER fans who actually remember me? :D

I used to be very active on the GSC GameWorld Forums back in the day. My first popular mod was Oblivion Lost 2.2

Some years later I returned to make Oblivion Lost 3.1, where I added levels from old betas, Clear Sky and COP. I quit modding in 2016, but the mod is still available, it might help you remember:

I'm a longtime friend of dezodor, who was the author of STALKER Lost Alpha, I think some of you remember him too:)

Stealth explained in Alpha Spectrum cyberpunk RPG

Hey folks, I'd like to share some details about 'stealth' in Alpha Spectrum, my story-driven cyberpunk RPG, inspired by Deus Ex.

You can navigate while crouched between cover objects, and the guards have "cone of vision" senses like in Commandos. Of course they can also hear you if you run or cast non-stealth skills.

Today I'd like to explain how I'm using some active stealth skills to manipulate the field from the shadows.

00:00 - Approaching a police checkpoint, I'm using an engineering skill to deploy a Sentry Turret, which then acts like a combat NPC to create a diversion. This way, I bought some time to get away from the guards while they are occupied with defeating the turret.

00:10 - Sneaking up to the guard from behind, using the Silent Knife skill like a rogue, I eliminate the enemy while the patrol is outside hearing range. If I was doing it within the red range of the guard that's moving away, it would trigger an alarm, I'd lose the bonus reward (Remain Unseen), and the whole courtyard would be chasing me:)

00:19 - I was sent on a mission to steal an important item from the makeshift Mercenary Base. I'm using the Void Prison skill to temporarily stun and blind the target, so I can quickly move past them. You can also combine it with the Silent Knife if you are quick enough.

00:33 - The target is a Mech Walker. I'm using the Remote Hacking skill to make it friendly to me but turn it hostile toward the guards. The Mech Walker immediately targets the nearby Cyberninjas, but of course they defeat it quickly. You can either create a diversion with this, or weaken the guards from a distance before striking in.

Hope you enjoyed it:) Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2965560/Alpha_Spectrum/

Alpha Spectrum, a cyberpunk RPG 8 years in the making

Hi everyone! I'm Adam, a solo indie developer, and a longtime Deus Ex fan. I have been working on my game for the last 8 years: Alpha Spectrum, a story-driven cyberpunk RPG.

I thought about sharing it here, as it might be interesting for you :)

While it's not an FPS, the game was born from the spirit of the Deus Ex games, and tries to capture its atmosphere, the theme feels very similar.

With a long-time passion for immersive sims, I designed the game with freedom of approach in mind, and I put that soul into the isometric ARPG formula. You have customizable Diablo-like combat with talents, stealth, and optional side content across different cities in the world.

This simple video shows a side mission where you can decide your approach. First I'm hacking the laser fence and going in with stealth, and then I'm using a keycard and attacking the guards directly:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK6Myul7b3Q

In this example, I show some skills you can use during stealth, for instance you can remote hack mechs, turrets, and drones, to turn them against the guards, or backstab them like a rogue. Sometimes creating a diversion with an engineering ability works best:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdxr-8amDgw

Last, I wanted to share that the main point of the game is the story, which is told through voiced dialogs. I got most of the voice actors from Reddit and social media:) There is a subtle nod to STALKER here, too, as I used to be a modder in the past (Oblivion Lost):

I developed this game alongside a full-time job, still working there, and I had no funding or publisher support.:)
