i don’t understand the american cycles

Hey! i’m a canadian looking to apply to the states after no luck in canada for multiple cycles. we don’t have enough schools or seats here.

i’m very confused about the american application cycles tho. in canada applications for fall 2027 open in fall 2026 (soon) and close around jan 2027. the time in between is waiting and hopefully getting mmis.

how does it work in the states? i saw somewhere that applications open in APRIL the year before? so did fall 2027 applications open april 2026? also when do you close?? i’m worried that i might be too late. would appreciate the help!

also if anyone has any “canadian friendly” school recommendations please lmk!

is fear of failing physics and valid reason to decline my offer

basically the title. i’m canadian and got into a 3yr rad therapy program. i find the career interesting and like the work life balance it brings while having a stable healthcare job. i have a biology degree so this will be a further education for me.

i am terrified of the amount of physics we have to take. there’s one class per semester and some other courses incorporate it as well. i genuinely don’t know if i’ll pass - i was always really bad at math and physics growing up. if you fail one course they pull you back a year and you have to redo the entire semester.

is fear of failing a valid reason to decline my offer? i’m thinking i should just apply to other healthcare programs that don’t require these subjects like accelerated nursing or respiratory therapy.

i got charged 299+ tax for a one year subscription that i didn’t authorize!!

basically the title. i’m at work right now and got an email that i have linkedin premium purchased a few minutes ago using my apple ID. I didn’t authorize this payment so i immediately cancelled the subscription. I’ve already been charged OVER $300 for this. I don’t know what to do. Do I dispute this with my bank? Maybe i accidentally clicked something while scrolling o have no idea

i feel lost and overwhelmed

i have my undergrad and always wanted to do optpm but near the end of uni i gave up and never tried because i was scared. didn’t even attempt my OAT but have all my prerequisites and hours. USA wasn’t an option due to the cost

i decided to try for a diff healthcare career which ended up being just as competitive and i’ve been applying to that for a few years. always put off optom because it felt like it was too late.

well i’m 24 now. i have offers from a few other programs that im not super passionate abt and i can’t help but think “what if” i had tried at least once for optom.

my parents are encouraging me to start one of the programs i got into because ive been out of school for 2 yrs and they think a 3rd gap year will result in me giving up on school altogether. maybe that’s true.

i know i can’t attempt the oat if i start another program rn i would also only have a month to prep if i decline my offers to try. i just feel so lost and confused on what to do next.

what’s the competition like for optom nowadays? i already regret spending 2 cycles applying for another program so im scared of making a stupid decision.

what are some masters programs for life sci students that will lead to a job?

basically the title. i’m 2 yrs post grad with some office work experience. i’m realizing i like this 9-5 lifestyle and environment but the pay at my current job is low and there’s no growth. i never wanted to go to med school so i applied and got into some healthcare programs but i’m realizing that i don’t really wanna pursue healthcare anymore.

i just can’t figure out WHAT i should do though. i want to do a masters program that will lead to a stable job / sector. does anyone have any recommendations?

*edit i wanted to add that i dont rlly like research. did a senior thesis and i was miserable. i want a corporate role with potential for growth. i am worried abt AI tho which is the only reason why i’m considering just accepting one of my offers to a healthcare program.

nursing vs radiology careers

Hi all!! i made a most earlier today voicing how i want to apply to accelerated nursing for next fall. at the moment i have other offers and i’m thinking of accepting one just so i’m not stagnant and have something going in case i don’t get in next year. everyone here has been so kind so i was hoping to get a perspective from you all!

i have a Bsc already and these are my options. unfortunately some of them i might i have to drop out if i get into nursing but idm. i want to pick the best option in case i dont get in!!

  1. 12-16 month funded masters program - jobs are kinda broad not sure if this is good for stability vs healthcare

  2. 2 year x-ray program

  3. 8month mri tech program

  4. 3 year radiation therapy program

ik many ppl will say “pick what you love!” but i honestly don’t know and i’m quite conflicted. i want a career with work life balance, flexibility and decent pay.

I’m sure many of you have worked with these professionals and may have some insight. it would also be nice to know if any of you would’ve preferred to do one of these and why. thank you again! 😊

do you get put on probation or restriction if you switch programs after 1st year?

basically the title. trying to get more clarity on this because the financial aid office is not responding to my emails (prob swamped)

i started a program earlier this year in jan 2026 and had to withdraw within the first week due to personal reasons. unfortunately my funding had been released so they put me on probation.

i am starting another program this fall and will be using OSAP again. from my understanding i need to make sure that i don’t fail or withdraw after my funding is released. if im successful the probation will be lifted at the end of the 2026-2027 school year. however if not then i’ll be RESTRICTED from osap the following year 2027-2028.

what i’m confused about is if this applies per year or for the program as a whole? the program i am starting is my backup and i will be reapplying to my first choice during 1st year. If i pass all my classes for first year and withdraw after completing first year will that still lead to a restriction?

I’m not sure if this makes sense. Would appreciate if someone more knowledgeable than me could guide

is 25 too late to start accelerated nursing? feeling very anxious and behind.

i’ve spent the last few years after undergrad hyper focused to get into a specific healthcare program (not med lol) - unfortunately i’ve been unsuccessful each cycle.

this year i got into a few other programs that i applied to thinking i’d enjoy them as well and can move on (xray, mri and radiation therapy or a masters each vary in length between 1-3ys) but my heart isn’t in them. something feels off and i think it’s the fact that you’re so boxed in after, low flexibility, not much possibility for growth, limited jobs and the pay is also not the best.

i’m thinking of starting one of them so that i can work towards a career but then also apply to accelerated nursing and maybe a few other programs that would bring better career prospects. however, i feel so stupid. if this goes as planned i’ll start next sept at 25 and graduate at 27…that’s usually when most nurses are going to NP school and i’ll be a new grad.

nurses also have a strong union which is so important in healthcare. i want to provide care but i also want my education to be “worth it” - i don’t feel like the radiology careers are going to fulfil me :(

what is the emergency management field like in canada? esp in health and safety!

there is an EM masters that i qualify for and i have a biochemistry degree + 2 years of work experience (not exactly in EM but i’ve utilized aspects in my job)

i would love to work for the ministry of health or another healthcare adjacent sector. i just don’t know what the market is like and what the realistic starting salary for someone like me would be (limited experience and prob a co-op) i’m willing to network and work hard.

i also have the option to become and mri tech or radiation therapist but i feel more interested in the 9-5 corporate job and work life balance that EM would give me.

does anyone here work in emergency management?

basically the title! i’m wondering what the day to day look like and if you enjoy your job? i would love to work in the health x EM sector and can do a masters program to help me break into the industry.

i got into a few healthcare programs but i’m realizing that i don’t necessarily want to provide frontline care. i think id enjoy an adjacent role more. but all in all i value work life balance, stability and decent pay. can i achieve this in EM or should i just pursue a healthcare career instead?

declining healthcare offers to try for law school

hey guys! i am 24 and graduated with a biology degree a few years ago. i never wanted to be a doctor but my parents forced me into biology because they didn’t know any better and neither did i. i told myself that i could do pretty much anything with it after (which is true) so i finished the program.

i’ve been working a corporate job unrelated to my degree since i graduated and enjoy it but i don’t get paid well - around 50k and raises depend on my bosses mood or if another role opens up. very unpredictable.

i knew i needed more stability and a career with better pay / smth AI proof so applied and got into a few healthcare programs this cycle. I'm realizing that i dont really love healthcare, i'm just doing it for the reasons above and in order to get a better job. with my degree i need to either study further OR get lucky job hopping to make more. i know passion fades so i’ve been telling myself to just do one of them.

however. i've thought about law school for years but never seriously considered it because i'm not a traditional applicant.

the healthcare programs i got into can pay around 70k (if you get lucky and land a full time job) or around 50k part time. tuition is around 30k for 3 years but with the possibility of saturation i could get stuck working PT for the same amount i make right now. i feel like law has a lot more earning potential and flexibility and i’d enjoy it more.

i don't aspire to be a millionaire. i just want to earn a decent income, pay off any loans and have a good work life balance. i also want a career where i can still make a solid income if i work PT eventually which I want to once I have kids.

i'm thinking of declining my offers, writing the LSAT and applying to law school this fall but i’m a little nervous. are there any questions i should ask myself to ensure i'm fit for this profession? would any of you recommend to go into healthcare instead ?

I can’t figure out where allah swt is guiding me. i feel like im suffocating.

Salam sisters i genuinely feel like all the walls are caving in around me and i really need some advice

for some background i graduated university 2 years ago and i’ve had my heart and mind set on a specific career path since the end of my undergrad degree. i prayed a lot and genuinely felt like i was guided in this direction. in the country i live in it takes almost a year to find out if you got into a program so i applied during my final year of school. i ended up getting an interview which was huge! but got waitlisted after.

i was disappointed but made dua and set on to try again. by this point i had graduated and it was my first ever gap year but i didn’t mind a year off, it was a nice break after being in school for yrs. alhamdulillah i also got a job (unrelated to my degree) which gave me a source of income during this reapplication process. i also applied to 2 backup programs in case i didn’t get into my top choice because in my mind was ready to move on if this 2nd cycle didn’t work out.

and then…i got rejected again. the crazy part is that i didn’t even get an interview this time. i was genuinely shocked. i did however get into both backup programs. at this point i realized that i wasn’t ready to move on and really wanted to try again. if i started another program it would’ve impacted my application and grades. coincidentally i was offered a promotion at my job so i decided to decline my offers, keep working and try again for the program.

This was my third cycle. I did everything I could to better my application and improve. i applied to a few more programs including the 2 i got into previously and worked so hard on all my applications. all my mentors said i would get in and…i was rejected again this cycle.

and to no one’s surprise, i got into most of the backups i applied to. One of them I got into is the same program I got into last year. The second program I got into last year rejected me this year. And then I got into two other programs.

I am genuinely trying my best to see the good in this and that maybe the path I was choosing for myself was not right for me. The problem is that I’m doing research on the three programs that I’ve gotten accepted into and I cannot figure out which one to accept. All of them are very different in terms of length of schooling and the job prospects. All of them also have their own issues in terms of job availability and market saturation.

I have been crying for days. My family and friends are getting tired of me. I keep turning to allah swt asking him for guidance and help but I feel like I’m not getting any help. i made Dua during Ramadan that have a program that I applied to is not good for me than to not even give me admission in it. But now I have three completely different pathways in front of me and I cannot decide. A part of me wants to stay at my current job even though it’s completely unrelated to what I studied and doesn’t really have much growth. But it feels comfortable. On the other hand, I know I have the potential to do more, but I genuinely cannot figure out what to pick. I have prayed istikhara multiple times and I am confused more and more every day.

Am I doing something wrong? I understand that to an extent I have free will, but I am genuinely confused and I keep praying and crying out to my Lord to help me. And I feel like I’m being ignored. I’m typing this out through tears because I am so exhausted. My chest has been so tight for the past few weeks. I have to make a decision within a few days and I have zero clarity. The thing is I don’t want to go ahead with a program and then not get a job in it. However, when I tell myself that whatever I pick it, Inshallah, it will be best for me and everything will work out - I end up frozen and can’t decide on one.

I’m just really exhausted and I’m hoping that someone here is a bit wiser than me and can give me some advice. Is there something I could pray for more help?

i don’t know which program to accept (ontario canada)

Hey guys,

I (25F) was accepted into 3 radiology programs and i’m very stressed out. I cannot figure out which one to pursue. This feels like a life or death situation for some reason and i’m so overwhelmed. I would love if someone could advise especially if you’re in canada

  1. Rad Tech (xray) 2 years long
  2. Mri 8 months long
  3. radiation therapy 3 years long

I would love if someone could advise especially if you’re in canada. i already have a degree and want to get my career started but i also don’t want to rush and make the wrong choice.
