Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has signed a new law doubling to 10 years the maximum prison term for sexual acts by same-sex couples.

The new law also criminalises the "promotion" of homosexuality, which includes any public representation and financial support by individuals or organisations, and provides for three to seven years in prison for those found guilty.

The legislation was a campaign promise of President Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and was approved by parliament last month.

Dearborn — One of the men who was videotaped assaulting an anti-Muslim activist during an Aug 2 religious celebration is a convicted murderer and a "criminal alien from Iraq" who is in federal custody awaiting a deportation hearing, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Wednesday.

According to one video a man walked up to Lang and punched him from behind. A group of men then chased Lang through a lot, some pummeling him with stones, before police officers pushed him into a cruiser and told the crowd to disperse, according to the videos.

Dearborn Police have arrested three people in connection with the beating: two 25-year-old men, one from Detroit, the other from Dearborn; and 57-year-old Dearborn resident Abbas Abdoush, 57, who is "a criminal illegal alien from Iraq," according to ICE officials.

In 1992, Abdoush was admitted into the United States as a lawful permanent resident after emigrating from Iraq, making him a non-U.S. citizen with legal permission to live and work here, according to ICE. But Abdoush violated that status when he was convicted in 1999 for second-degree murder, the federal agency said.

According to a 2005 Michigan Court of Appeals report on Jan. 25, 1998, Abdoush intentionally hit a woman with a borrowed van in southwest Detroit. The victim later died.

Abdoush was convicted, sentenced to 15-25 years in prison and was paroled in 2014.

The Dearborn Police Department, which has a policy not to cooperate with federal immigration agencies, was not involved with Abdoush's arrest, Bartok said.

"He was released from our system, and we had no knowledge he was going to be arrested," Bartok said, adding that federal agents likely tracked Abdoush down through his GPS tether.

(WXYZ) — After months of debate, the city council has voted to allow the practice of animal sacrifice, for religious purposes, in Hamtramck.

The decision ultimately came down to a more than 30-year-old U.S. Supreme Court ruling that says cities cannot infringe on religious freedom under the first amendment.

The act of animal sacrifice is often practiced among Muslims during Eid.

“Our city is dirty enough. We don't want to make it more dirty,” a Hamtramck resident said during a city hall meeting.

The ordinance that was passed Tuesday night says religious sacrificing of animals can be done as long as it is done legally and humanely.

"I think it’s the best compromise. We don't want to restrict religious freedoms and we don't want to keep it random without regulations," Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib said.

Many Muslims pay a butcher to perform the religious sacrifice but for some families, it's just not practical.

“A lot of families will typically do it in the confines of their property like in their backyard or their garage and dispose of the animal accordingly," Director of Safe Spaces at Cair Michigan Nour Ali said.

The Red Cross has deleted a film tracking the journey of an Afghan migrant who is now accused of killing a British woman and hiding her body in a suitcase in Greece. 

Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, was arrested on Monday over the murder of Scottish Christian Elisabeth-Jane Ross, in Athens. 

Ahmadzai, a professional boxer who arrived in Greece on a small boat in 2016, is accused of killing Ms Ross before stuffing her body into a suitcase and ditching it in a derelict building.

Three women have been stabbed in Paris.

A man reportedly launched the attack on passers-by with two kitchen knives in a square in the city’s north-west on Monday morning.

He was detained by an off-duty police officer and was taken into custody. As he was pinned down by officers, he said “it is Allah who ordered me”, Le Figaro reported.

But Laurent Nunez, the interior minister, said the suspect made a series of “incoherent statements” and appeared to downplay any terrorist motive, suggesting the attacker had mental health issues.

The women, aged 19, 24 and 36, are being treated in hospital for severe injuries but “their lives are not in danger”, Mr Nunez, the interior minister, said. One is believed to be pregnant.

Mr Nunez said they did not yet know the suspect’s identity, adding that “we need to be very careful with respect to the motives for this very violent attack”.

The attack comes after an Islamist radical ploughed a rented minivan into a Pride parade in Berlin on Saturday, killing one woman and wounding 29.

At least one person is dead and several people are injured after a vehicle drove into the crowd at a Pride event in Berlin on Saturday, in what German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called "an attack on our society."

Berlin police said they have identified a suspect who "is known to police" and has links to "Islamist circles." Police have launched a manhunt for the 21-year-old who they identified only as Abdul B.

"If you encounter the suspect, immediately dial 110! Do not approach him, he may be armed and dangerous!" police warned the public, adding he was believed to be wearing a black hoodie and white pants.

A driver in white vehicle struck several people before 10:00 p.m. local time, according to Berlin police. At least 17 people are injured and several have life threatening injuries, according to Berlin police.

The two men were filmed threatening a man on the street after they accused him of “messing with our money” in Harrow, northwest London.

When the footage starts, one of the council workers, wearing a black hood, can be seen confronting the member of the public who is recording events, saying, “What did you think I was going to do? I don’t need to tell you what I was going to do.”

Then the officer in the red hat turns around and starts to verbally threaten the man filming and becomes increasingly aggressive.

Turning off his body camera, he tells the man, “You act like you’re trying to mess with our money. I’m going to show you something right now.

“Come to the alleyway right now, we’re gonna show you what time it is. We’re gonna show you what time it is, bruv.

“We’re gonna make sure you can’t work no more and earn no money ‘cause you’re trying to butt in with our money – and bruv, do you know what I do to people like that? Come here now. Let’s go.”

The worker can then be seen gesturing for the man to follow him across the road before saying, “I swear when I’m not in uniform, I’m gonna knock you the f**k out and rip your teeth out. Do you know that? If I give you one punch I’ll knock all your teeth out.”

“If I call a police officer for you, he’ll f**k you up, you know, ‘cause we work with them and you didn’t know that did you? So come across the road now ‘cause I’m gonna show you what time it is.”

He then starts to unzip his black vest, where is body-worn video camera is attached, and adds, “Bruv I ain’t having no one disrupt my job, you know.

Harrow Council has taken swift action after the footage was widely shared on social media.

It has described the incident as “unacceptable” and said the enforcement officers in the video have been sacked.

The leader of the notorious Rochdale grooming gang – convicted of 30 child rapes – has been released from prison today as Downing Street still insists it is powerless to deport him from Britain.

Shabir Ahmed, 73, walked free from HMP Leeds on Thursday and is set to begin life in a bail hostel in the north of England, at an estimated cost to taxpayers of £120 a night.

He is moving in to a facility close to Rochdale, where many of his victims still live, and is wearing a GPS tag.

Ahmed – who instructed his victims to call him 'Daddy' – is a Pakistani national who acquired British citizenship through naturalisation. He plied girls as young as 13 with drink and drugs before 'passing them around' to be abused by him and eight associates.

Despite his conviction in 2012, his victims – most of them white working-class girls – have been told he cannot be deported to Pakistan because of a legal loophole.

They have also voiced fears for their safety now the Rochdale grooming gang leader is free after serving 14 years of a 19-year sentence.

The Ministry of Justice has refused to say if he is out of jail, citing 'security reasons', but a source told the Daily Mail: 'Ahmed has already been released. He is in a secure placement just outside the GMP area.’ 

Ahmed held dual British-Pakistani citizenship and was stripped of his British citizenship following his conviction. Yet the Government insists it has no legal powers to remove him from the UK.

Prime minister-in-waiting Andy Burnham has said he will ask senior ministers to find a way to deport Ahmed, declaring that 'nothing is off the table'.

But he was undermined by Downing Street today, where Sir Keir Starmer's spokesman said Ahmed had an 'exemption from deportation' under UK law.
