Colorsoft: is the Scribe worth being more than x2 the price of the 7"?

My interest in getting the Scribe is mostly for the screen size when reading comics (I'm getting old and discerning small details is more difficult). I might get some use out of the pen (like for editing a manuscript?) but it's not a reason for me to buy it.

If you were going to go a little overboard buying accessories for a new one, what would you recommend?

I'll be getting one soon and I'm not sure what all would be good to get. I am leaning towards Dbrand accessories but I don't know which all ones to get.

I plan to use it as a handheld so I don't need a controller. Will wireless headphones work for sound?

I lose physical games so I know I need a SD card. I don't have access to Costco so does anywhere have a recommendation of where to buy one from?

Last but not least, what games should I get for the first month? I figure one Switch 2 game and then some older ones. I would like at least one Pokemon, one turn based RPG (Tactics?), a game with farming (used to love Rune Factory), and something quick with lots of endings like I Was a Teenage Exocolonist.

Thanks!

What are some PS5 games that don't involve a lot of intense controller action?

Long story short, I do really badly with making small repetitive motions with my hands, and after a few days of trying to play Veilguard my thumb was in nightmare mode from trying to use the joystick so much.

So are there many games that either don't use the joystick much or you can use an alternative? What about Baldur's Gate 3?

Authors with a similar style to Jonathan Stroud? (Bartimaeus Sequence, Lockwood & Co.)

I'm reading the Scarlett & Brown books for the first time right now, and he's written some standalone books I need to investigate, but I would love for some more authors with a similar flair for mixing silly humor with emotionally potent, vivid storytelling.

Adult books are welcome too, not just more MG/YA!

Did anyone else's aegosexuality start young?

Hopefully this makes sense. So I (a lady) first claimed ace when I was 12 and it's been a meandering time back to it at 35, but I was always Super Invested in fictional people getting together in a romantic way, and at a certain point, physically intimate. I hate being around PDA, and while I would probably enjoy getting to "third base" with a special person on a regular basis, in reality my body dysphoria is too strong to go there.

But I've been super invested in adult romcoms and young adult book romances since I was under 10, and by the time I was 12 I was reading extremely pornographic fanfiction without my parents knowing. However I mostly read horror novels or MG fiction these days because all of the "romances" are just...so....bad...

Can season 3 of Helluva Boss be released yet?!

What age are series like The Immortals/Song of a Lioness quartets meant for these days?

I, like many, grew up reading Tamora Pierce, and I lay at her feet a lot of my confidence in being female person. Growing up, I had a multitude of different female characters to identify with or cheer on, of all shapes and sizes, ages and personalities. She wrote good male characters too, from romances, mentors, friends, etc. I am definitely a better person today for having read them when I was a kid, and later a teenager.

But given how youth fiction has developed, who the flying finch are they meant for now? The first Alanna book is MG, the second is YA, and the last two are NA or adult. The Immortals I would say are solidly all YA, their content was more hardcore from the get go and she's 13 in the first one, but the short length and the focus on animals makes them look like kids books.

Everything after that point has no such genre issues (thanks Jo Rowling for unlocking the length of youth fiction), but they sure as hell do. But what about those two? Because while technically you can read the rest of the Tortall books without them, I think you're really missing a lot not to read everything in order.

So what age do you figure they're mature enough to handle the fade to black details of intimate relationships? 10? 12? Or do you risk waiting "too long" and having the readers feel like they're too old for the young part of the story?

P.S. I don't want to discuss whether you think it's acceptable for girls in their mid teens to be in intimate relationships with men in their late teens/twenties. That gets into way bigger issues, and in any case, reading something doesn't mean you're going to run out and do it immediately.

Games that are fun for adults with learning disabilities/high neurodiversity?

I need help picking games for me and my friends to try. I loved boardgames as a kid but "adult" games were usually beyond my capabilities due to my learning disabilities. Several of my friends have similar problems, so I'll just list them. :D

Dyslexia: reading is fine but no spelling or anagrams, and no handwriting

Dyscalculia: counting up is fine, and games like Phase 10, but no math please!

Dyspraxia: fine motor skills are fraught with difficulty

Memory: rules need to be fairly simple and consistent, and gameplay shouldn't hinge on remembering things

Energy: you should be able to fully finish a game in 2 hours or less!

Beyond that we like silly more than serious, and cute stuff (especially animals) goes really far.

EDIT: needs to be for 4 or 5 players!

Sturdy, simple cat tower recommendations?

I need an alternative place in my bedroom for my senior cat Timothy to hang out since I got rid of some furniture I didn't want. Right now she's targeting my laundry baskets. She doesn't get on my bed because that's the territory of the other two cats, but she'll stay near me when I'm sleeping.

Timothy is around 15 and is starting to have more problems with jumping up on things, but she's still pretty nimble. None of our cats are over 13lbs, and the other two are 8 and 6.

Definitely looking for a solid sleeping tower, not something for playful young cats. I don't care about appearance or price as long as it's not massively overpriced. I do prefer natural/ethical goods.

Thanks!

Fantasy or sci-fi with 16-17yo main character, in-depth world and story, and minor romance subplot?

I don't like books where most of the drama is caused by messy relationships, but at the same time I'm a (ace/aego) romantic and really enjoy having that be an aspect in the MC's life while they run around saving the world or whatever.

These are books that fit what I want best, that I've already read. They're mostly female protagonists but I'm open to any sort of MC or cultural setting.

Sabriel by Garth Nix, and by extension the entire Old Kingdom series, is the perfect example of what I'm looking for.

Close behind is basically Tamora Pierce's entire bibliography.

The Scholomance trilogy fits but I didn't like it that much. It's not badly written exactly but I disagreed with how things were presented and choices made in character development.

Holly Black is a borderline case for me. Her MCs tend to be a little too obsessed for me (Curse Workers, Folk of the Air), but the Modern Fairy trilogy is wonderful.

For YA-esque adult books, I enjoyed the Wheel of Time, Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series, and absolutely adore Robin McKinley's Sunshine.

Naming original high fantasy creatures

What's your preferred method for naming non-humans, sentient or not, when you either can't, shouldn't, or don't want to use real world terms like mermaid or elf?

There are two methods that work that I've noticed in books I like, and one is either coming up with a noun in a fictional language, using a common name that's descriptive, or a combo of both.

I've personally only written urban fantasy so far, and making existing words stretch to contain the critter I've come up with, but I enjoy plenty of traditional fantasy. I've just never been good at making up words wholesale...Maybe I should say that when I approach making a conlang, I go from zero to sixty and completely overwhelm myself!

If I want to do a little gaming on one of these, which version should I get?

And how "big" a game can you reasonably expect to play, if playing responsibly? i.e. no other programs open, recommended settings, a vented tray underneath. Currently I own Baldur's Gate 3 but I'm interested in others too.

I need to be wearing compression stockings but I haven't had luck in the past; any tips?

I'm autistic and have a lot of sensory issues with the stockings I've tried wearing before. I have weak hands, they get caught in my leg hair, I get overheated, I always end up walking on a melted icecube, and cat claws are a hazard. Never been able to figure out the right size (I wear 3xl pants) or strength. Can you wear them during naps?

How long are you supposed to wear them before you wash? How many pairs are you supposed to have? Stupid things cost as much as a bra (which I do not wear regularly also for sensory issues).

EDIT: I got a referral from my doctor for custom fit ones, but advice is still welcome!

Need games you can win in a day but are made to be replayed

These are examples of the two types of games I really enjoy:

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist (which was inspired by Princess Maker 2 which I played for hours every day as a crazy teenager)

Sid Meyer Civ games (mainly Alpha Centauri when I was a kid and Civ VI)

I also like rpgs you can binge and finish the storyline in a weekend, like Rune Factory or the main Pokemon games.

Two complications: Handheld only, either steam deck or switch 2. And the fact that I'm not actually great at strategy games, haha... On Civ VI I won once on the third difficulty and it was a fluke, and my secret to Pokemon is over leveling.

My senior cat's arm just did something weird

Some backstory first:

Timothy is about 15 and was a suburban cat at large before we brought her in 3 years ago. She was always in good general health (still athletic and playful) until about 6 months ago. At that point she started throwing up more than the occasional hairball or dry food regurgitation, including clear foam, she wasn't as active, got very clingy, and occasionally was a little wobbly. When we took her to the vet about a month ago and did testing the only thing that was off was that she'd gone from 10lbs to 8lbs and lost muscle.

Since that vet visit it looked like she was feeling better, chasing our male cat again and playing with toys, until this happened. I was watching a movie in the middle of the night/early morning, and she was on the arm of the recliner next to me, not sleeping but calm and relaxed. And then out of nowhere her right forearm jerked pretty hard, and it looked like it was in a contraction before it relaxed.

She seemed surprised when it happened but wasn't scared or alarmed, she let me touch her arm, and she was purring. Right now she's eating and moving around fine.

I've had the feeling that she's not going to last long for a while, and we don't have the money to chase down a treatment, but I want to know what's happening.

Looking for a horror movie starring kids but with a folklore vibe

The kids (toddler to teenager) can be “good” or “evil”, protagonists or antagonists, and they can win or loose. I don’t really have any content triggers except for one thing: if for instance one of the kids is a victim of extreme abuse (verbal, sexual, physical), I don’t want to see it on screen with the child actor, if you get what I mean. It can be talked about by adults or filmed “around” the kid; doesn’t matter if the actor is 18+. Dealing with the emotions surrounding this stuff is important and cathartic, but y’know. I just don’t want to think about a young person being traumatized for no good reason.

Anyway there are bunches of good kid horror movies but I specifically want a backdrop more similar to The VVitch than Bring Her Back. Not picky about country of origin, fine with subs, but I don’t want to have to sign up for some weird app to watch it. I’m lazy :D

I tagged this fantasy, but I'm open to MG and YA books as well as adults. I have very active dreams (Bipolar superpowers activate!), and I loved movies like Little Nemo growing up. No matter the age group it should be surreal and unsettling, even scary. Horrific yet beautiful.

I was a kid from 1991 to 2002. Garbage's self-titled debut came out when I was 4, and from that time on "I'm Only Happy When it Rains" has been one of my theme songs.
