Green For Danger (1946)

A deliciously clever British mystery with an almost absurdly good cast. Alistair Sim, Robert Newton and Trevor Howard are all terrific, with Newton bringing his usual volatile charm and Howard wonderfully brooding. Alistair Sim's eccentric Inspector Cockrill really is having a ball, everyone is on top form. It's really a cracking little thriller: witty, atmospheric and beautifully acted. One you'll recommend, just like i am now! ✌️😊

Album after album just essential! Crucial!!

Reggae Got Soul — Toots & The Maytals

Always been a favourite track and album of mine. Toots & The Maytals were absolutely cooking around this time, knocking out album after album that was damn near unmissable — and somehow it still sounds just as vital today.

Toots is good for what ails you!! There’s something about that voice, that rhythm, that sheer warmth and life in the music. And it sounds even better when you're riding along at the crest of a wave.

Reggae got soul. Yes it does!!! 🙌

Kiss The Blood Off My Hands (1948)

Kiss the Blood Off My Hands — great recommendation. What a strange, grubby little film.

Burt Lancaster basically swedgin his way through a supposedly post-war London underworld, looking like he could either punch through a brick wall or pull people limb from limb.. i mean, eventually, he gets sentenced to prison and to the cat-o'-nine-tails!! — nine knotted cords used as a flogging whip. Not exactly community service. and yes it was a thing, that and birch

And then Robert Newton turns up and completely owns the fucking thing. What a man. He had that extraordinary ability to make a character seem like he'd been dragged in from some genuinely disreputable pub rather than written in a screenplay. There's something wonderfully unhinged about him.

Apparently Newton was a pretty serious character behind the scenes too — he'd insist on two days' notice before shooting so he could get himself properly into character. Lancaster and producer Harold Hecht were apparently so impressed with him that they were already looking at another film for him while they wethere still editing this one.

Also fascinating how much of that grim London was actually Hollywood pretending to be London. Somehow they pull it off.

Really enjoyed this one. Properly tough, atmospheric noir, and Newton is fucking brilliant in it.

Straight from heaven to your ear...

Such an overused word.. but if Ray wasn't a musical genius.. i don't know who could qualify! He sings blues to cure your blues.. 💙

Love it when that happens...

Heard less than a minute of this in the background of some obscure vintage documentary, latched right on, and just loved it immediately! Used phone, and hey! the single was on the same label as the Captain! I'm in!! Ordered for under a 5er and sounds absolutely pristine!

..it's a really fantastic emotive song, a little of kilter.. so good!

When you need to soothe your soul.

Been a big fan since the early ep.. and i am not really one to pick favourites.. but if i could only keep one Arcade Fire album this might be the one.

Production is sublime, just when you think they couldn't get any better... amazing.

I sure could use a little of that..

Marlene Dietrich having a ball in 1957's Witness For The Prosecution. Looks like a good night! 🍻🍻

Wow.. this seems popular! Better keep it up..

Noticed a particular couple who seem to be nesting in the bush out the front. Two neighbours in the street have feeders, but I thought I'd grab this for the "newly weds" looked out about an hour later an saw it got very popular! 😄

His vibration will live on...

Has to be in top 5 Manchester albums, and that's just one of the lists it should be in.. if you don't know this, you really need to do yourself a favour.. it's miles better than the stuff you know.. 🙃✌🏻

Dye job disaster..

Really nice shirt had a mark, so i decided to try to save it with dye... looked great while it was still wet.. but it's drying all patchy. What went wrong.. salt, dye, water, heat, ratio off? Or do these things not work too well at changing colour, more to liven up faded colours the same as dye? So annoying... ☹️
