First time with resin casting

Based on a Korean novel series called "Beacon of Light in the Dark Sea" about a dentist who gets trapped in a deep sea base.

Had fun designing all the small props, 3d printing and painting them, but looks like alcohol ink got to some of them and made some "happy accidents"

Lots of mistakes made & lessons learned

How to restore clarity?

Casted this orb...and while it looked great initially, i did have to trim and sand it.

I was hoping to polish it back to its clear self but i can only achieve clarity when wet now.

I have tried modeling compound up to 8000 grit and even zona paper all the way.

Any tips?

I was wondering if i could use pledge or clear coat over it but wanted to see if anyone had other tips or could see what i was missing

I like these better than I expected!

Wasn't expecting much but they do look pretty cute and feel solid

Good job mattel!

What helped you the most get better at extractions?

I've been at it for about 10 years now.

I sucked at extractions out of dental school since our program faculty wouldn't let me do one.

I really slowly got better at it over time and feel comfortable with most surgical extractions and 3rd molar extractions.

Some still give me a hard time but I know that given enough time, I'll get it.

The thing is, our office recently hired a new grad and he's struggling a bit with extractions, especially with surgical ones.

I can help him with the clinical tips but I feel like it's more psychological & anxiety.

I was wondering if you could share anything from your career that helped you push through.

Mine was alcohol, videogames and just brute forcing thru time but not sure I 'd recommend this to him.

Darkeater Midir

The only thing my wife asked out of my 3d printer was Midir.

3d printed & painted by me.

Initially I painted it more purple-ish but she said she wanted it to look more stone-like so here it is.

At least I got to have some fun with my purple UV light.

What do you think?

I know why they are releasing MvC Sentinel..

Probably because I 3d printed and made two sentinels the past year and still couldnt get it right...

Jokes aside, it was fun making these and will be a good placeholder for now, but glad we're finally getting a legit one!

How do I create an orb of various colors in layers without having a solid line between them?

First time dealing with epoxy.

I think I got everything I need... including a mold for 4 inch sphere and am aware that I will have to do in layers.

My goal is to have an ocean diorama type of sphere where the deeper parts are dark navy blue and slowly gradients to a clear at the top.

I am worried that if I just mix all layers separately and pour them in series, that all the colors will mix together, but if I wait until each layers is cured, the layers will have a distinct horizontal division...

Any tips? thank you!

Best place to park around Lake Trillium?

Planning to get there early around 8:30 am tomorrow.

Not looking forward to it being crowded, but I also have a 6-day workday schedule...

Where should I expect to park? Been hearing that parking by the dam is usually the best option if possible.

CAPtain COMmando 3d printed & painted

One more for the collection.

Had to use a model made for 3d animation and "fixed" it to print.

Some hiccups here and there - in both the modeling and painting.

Will print more photos later!

First attempt at diorama, could be better.. but lessons learned

Based on a popular Korean book series called "The Bird that Drinks Tear"

Wish I could've matched the backdrop better to the base, but glad I got to semi-achieve the picture I had in mind.

Please dont throw other dentists under the bus

Bit of a rant...

I believe in being honest to patient and can say that my work isnt perfect all the time, but there are ways to do it courteously.

Had a patient get RCT and buildip from gentle dental and came to me for a crown.

1 year later, a giant cavity happened with pain.

Patient went back to gentle dental and they blamed my crown and an open margin.

I wanted to make it right and removed the crown. Everything is squeaky clean.

Showed the patient the photo and removed the buildup. The cavity was starting from the orifice and underneath the buildup.

I told the patient what I saw. She asked why the cavity was there and I told her thats a conversation she should have with Gentle Dental.

I know cavities can happen and patients sometimes lie or misremember things...but

Since they tried to throw me under the bus, here's you bus back.

What printer/copier/scanner/fax combo are you using?

Just realized our office has a printer on a lease and paying $600 monthly for service...

Does it make sense to keep this or get one on my own?

I know toner can be expensive and its a pain to get everything installed.... but its too much

The new Dan is... very Dan

Was in a love hate situation with the old storm arena Dan.

Loved he was finally getting an updated figure.

Hated he looked too serious.

The new Dan... is even more love hate lol

Really love the goofy headsculpts

Really hate they left out thumbs up and made it an exclusive.

Skintone slightly doesnt match, but thats not stopping me from displaying a goofy P1 Dan!

How do you get "just the right amount" of supports?

I'll be honest, been at this hobby for around 2 years and I decided I'm better off polishing off support marks then manually support everything.

I also like to err on safer side - I'd rather print something whole with a bazillion supports then have the print fall off and crack the LCD.

But... was wondering if there was an easier way.

Currently I manually support heavy supports at the beginning points for the undercuts, autosupport light (without deleting previous supports), autosupport medium (again without deleting prev supports), and sometimes also throw in another auto heavy support.

But after seeing some of the pre-support files, I was wondering if there was an easier wa.

I see many tips to learn to support, but any tutorials you recommend?

Thank you!

I dont feel "happy" anymore

Driving off to work, kinda realized or put togethet that its been a while since I truly felt happy.

Its just "content" or "relief".

Content that I did okay or relief that I somehow didnt fuck up.

But I know tomorrow is gonna be another stressful day.

The thing is... its kinda always been like this and most likely will always be.

I wish I could blame it on someone or the situation, but

I am...

Married and have two dogs - no intention of having kids.

Parents retired and doing pretty good financially or healthwise.

At a good job, working 6 days with good boss.

At a job where I am literally helping people smile.

Been at it for a while that im confident in my skills.

I pushed to work 6 days cuz I naively thought, 'hmm, maybe if i had more money and am able to spend it in dumb stuff, i will feel better'. Which kinda worked but was shortlived.

I just feel like I tell myself, everything looks good on paper, so stfu and get to work and continue the grind.

But I know that if something bad happens to me, a part of me will feel relieved - to have an excuse to be done with everything.

Some people will say that its burnout or that you need a break, but how do you get a break from life and thoughts itself?

Anyway, that was my venting session. Thanks for reading!

Snake had some funs this weekend

Overall loving the quality.

Has good posability, which kinda makes it hard to pose in a way but I blame it on me tbh

Hope someone does old snake MGS4 soon...
