Post PDR repair options
I dumbly backed into my trailer the other week and thought it was a good candidate for PDR. Hired someone with experience working on Rivians, but it turned out less than ideal.
Curious what my options are now. I think I can live with it, but my concern is rust or additional paint flaking. I ordered Dr. Colorchip, but do you think I’m better going the traditional body shop route? Located in Atlanta.
Global Toggle-on for ZDR available?
I'd like to set ZDR for openrouter for all models. is there a single setting for this?
ISO 24/7 care facility for dad
Dad is undergoing chemo and is a fall risk I’m looking for a 24/7 facility with services (food, bathroom assist etc) to house him while he’s undergoing treatment. I’ll be taking him to his appointments. He lives in Leander. Any recommendations?

Will a 100psi max leak down tester work?
Folks I posted earlier about my s2000 with loss of compression on cylinder 1. I’d like to purchase a leak down tester - will this one work (max 100 psi). I don’t need anything fancy as I need it rarely, local parts stores have none available for rent.
looking to borrow or rent a quality automotive leak down tester
need it to diagnose a head issue. needs to be a quality tester. I live in south austin.
[TX][SFH] Getting flagged monthly
Folks
My parents are getting flagged for some violation or other every month. Not making excuses since most were legitimate. However I feel they are being targeted. Recently they noted missing grass, which took a lot of $s to replant. A lawn treatment company came subsequently and left a small sign on the lawn no larger than 4 inches by 5 for which they flagged a violation yet again. What do I do if I feel they are being targeted? Parents are retired, mom is bedridden with dementia…
2001 s2000 loss of compression on cylinder 1
Folks I have a 2001 s2000 that misfired recently. I immediately parked it and had it towed to the dealer. They did a compression check and found that cylinder 1 is running at around 60%. They have charged me $250 so far and are asking for another $400 to remove the valve cover to inspect further. I researched this issue and it seems likely that it might be due to the valve retainer cracking…dealer is quoting me around $6.4k to replace. What are my options? I found a reconditioned head for around $500 on eBay - for example: https://ebay.us/m/JdNVBc. How hard is it to replace? Anyone had success with a reconditioned head sourced off eBay? Looking for advice. Thanks!
I am pretty sure the answer is no, but I am trying to nail down exactly why.
My first answer is that the suit is a much better conductor than the human body. Current flows in path of least resistance, and will go through the suit, leaving the person un-roasted.
I have a qualm with this explanation. If I understand things correctly, the sparks from the Tesla coil are plasma, and have very low (negative?) resistance. This would mean that even the very low resistance of the suit may be large compared to the whole system, which would mean there is a non-trivial voltage potential across the suit. Since current is flowing, and the suit isn't a perfect conductor, the voltage drop is obviously non-zero.
In order for Hongbin to not be electrocuted, the voltage source must not be an ideal voltage source. Either the resistance between the coil and suit is significantly higher than the suit, or something else inside the coil is regulating the current.
Another explanation I heard is the skin effect in electronics. At high frequencies, current tends to flow on the outside of conductors. Since the human is on the inside of the conductor, dV there would be 0, and the person would be safe. Does this extend to DC voltages? If the arc is DC vs AC, would the occupant be cooked?
I look forward to the discussion. I shall be standing by with popcorn! I may post this to adjacent groups as well.
We got a new tsla model y in November which someone backed into while parked. Apparent damage was to the lift gate. We used the camera video and issued a claim. The insurance covered 100% original parts. When the wife went to pick it up she noticed:
- Mismatch gap between left and right side of the lift gate
- Color mismatch between the plastic bumper and the sheet metal
After much protest they decided to fix 1. And submitted a claim for ‘blending’ to the insurance to fix 2. Insurance is not covering as Tesla is informing them it’s within spec.
What is the recourse? We dont recall seeing this mismatch when we first got the car. We also showed the supervisor there was much less mismatch between on another model y parked in the lot…he said it’s just our eye and how the light is hitting the two cars differently. We asked for the original liftgate to prove that there wasn’t this mismatch, but they say they’ve dispensed of the original lift gate. I’m trying to dig up photos I took after the crash happened to try and bolster my case.
What do you folks recommend I do? What is my recourse?
Thanks!
