with school coming up, i am remembering how i will have to pick a new outfit every single day and the struggles that comes with that lol.

i feel like it’s especially harder if you’re alternative and your clothes are very distinct. ie, everyone will remember the second time i wear my red avril lavigne shirt, but people might not notice if it was a plain red shirt, for example.

i want to hear everyone’s clothing strategy, or how many clothes you have. or any comments you have about this topic.

for me personally, i have 7 pairs of pants (they’re all different and none are normal jeans), i have emo jorts, probably around 7 pairs of swim shorts (but i only wear these in summer ofc), 5 pairs of converse, 1 pair of adidas, and i don’t know how many shirts. probably at least 50, since i got super tall when i was 12 and i am the same height now so i’ve been accumulating for years, but i need to get rid of some stuff because ofc i don’t like all of them any more. i also have at least 3 pants i no longer wear and need to get rid of…

i’ve been car-free for about a month now and i’m running into an issue: one of my best friends lives over two miles from me and doesn’t have a car. what would you do in this scenario? i have an electric scooter and i’ve been scooting everywhere but typically with this friend, id go and pick her up in my car and we’d hang out at my house. she also has medical assistant school at 6pm near my house, normally i’d drop her off there too.

we’re supposed to hang out today and im unsure if i should ask my mom to take her here, and to take her to school (seems a bit childish, im 18 and my friend is 19) or…? not sure what other options i have since public transportation is not really an option. she doesn’t have a car because her mother is very strict and hasn’t allowed her to get a job or a license, but that’s another issue lol.

edit: i’m unsure how people are claiming to walk over 2 miles in 20-40 minutes…maps says it takes an hour. my friend lives on the complete other side of town so i believe this. if it was me going to her house, of course i’d just scoot. but if its her coming to my house (which it is)…i will not be asking her to walk for an hour. i was raised better than that.

bus is not really an option because the nearest bus stop to me is across a busy 40mph street. it’s very dangerous to run across this street, but using the nearest crosswalk would make it take about 30 minutes just to get to the bus stop. i don’t think that’s really worth it, since if my friend walked 10 minutes to her bus stop, was on the bus for 10 minutes, and walked 30 minutes to the crosswalk and then to my house, it would only be about 10 minutes faster than just walking the whole way. she’d also need to walk 30 minutes to the bus stop to get to school…and it would take about 30 minutes or maybe even less to just walk to school (i’ve walked there before), so that’s definitely not worth it. i live in a very residential area, in a bad place to use busses.

this happens a lot. today i was only ordering one burrito from taco bell and 3 different people asked me if i was sure that’s all i wanted…yeah, it is. i wouldn’t be able to eat two of them because i don’t like too much of the same food and i didn’t want a second item. i don’t feel like it’s that crazy to only get one item…maybe people on this subreddit would relate.

hi, i am wanting to have a game night soon with friends. i want to play jackbox, and also mario kart. 4 players is super limited tho…ive done it before where we all just take turns and stuff but, im wondering if it would be possible for like 6-8 people to actually play together? i have wii, mk8 and mk world. i have 2 switches, a wii, wii u and 1 switch 2. (ofc i know these wouldn’t be compatible, but im unsure which system would accommodate 8 people, if its possible. i only own one copy of each game however)

teenage summer is a great time in our lives and soon it’ll be over, never to happen again. sometimes it’s easy to waste summer by watching youtube and playing video games all day but i am trying to remember that and live my summer to the fullest!

i’m an 18 year old guy and i’m thinking about doing this. i got my electric scooter earlier this month and today was my first time actually using it to get around town. i’d say i was pretty successful. i never liked driving and i live in the middle of the city— everywhere is less than 3 miles away, less than a 30 minute scoot. currently in summer, there’s only two places im frequently driving to by myself, therapy and my weekly coffee shop hangout with friends. im thinking of trialing scooting everywhere and seeing if im wanting to continue it when school starts. right now im not working but i have two jobs at my school and usually just stay all day anyways. i live very close and think it would take less than 30 minutes to scoot to school. also, a big reason i did not talk about on r/electricscooters is that car insurance for my car is $70 a month. that’s ridiculous in my opinion and if i don’t pay it for only a few months, i already paid for my scooter! i’d much rather have an electric scooter than pay into the void. also, gas is about $100 every two months (since i only really drive to work/school). i’ve always wanted an electric car for this reason as well. cars are just so expensive.
what do we think? does anyone else do this? are there any issues i’m not seeing? other than needing to plan extra time to get places. this seems like a great idea to me.

i just got back from hanging with friends all day but 2 of my friends were mean to me today (separately) and i feel weirdly isolated and alone :( do you ever come back from a hang out and just feel exasperated, upset, etc. and wonder why am i hanging out with them? i’m no longer laughing and having a good time every day. idk. my last year at the school i’m going to is coming up and i hope it gets better when that starts but, i also want to enjoy my summer. i feel like i wont be able to enjoy it if im just all sad all the time because of the way my friends are treating me. also, one of my besties i haven’t seen in over a month and my other bestie i just saw the other day but vibes were lowkey off and we never text ever ??? it’s because hes lowkey just hanging out with his boyfriend all the time. he doesn’t do anything else. he has no time for me or his friends…im perfectly fine with hanging out with the boyfriend too, and i have before. id consider him one of my friends even. but we are not hanging out?? the friends i see all the time are the ones that are highkey mistreating me and im pretty sick of it. idk what to do. i actually hate it when someone gets a boyfriend and all the sudden they don’t exist anymore and their boyfriend is their whole personality. but actually my bestie has been with his bf for 3 years and is still like this…and my other friend who i haven’t seen, shes about to be 19 but her mom doesn’t let her leave the house without her bruh. i love her and thats not her fault but i saw her so much more when we went to the same school so its so sad 💔💔 i miss my real friends. i know i should cut off the ones that aren’t nice to me but its not that easy…i need socialization. also they’re all friends with my bestie with the boyfriend, so idk how that would go. i definitely want to do it tho…or at least like transition away from hanging out with people who make me feel like crap every day. idk.

this was two years ago, but i was too embarrassed to post it before. i can laugh about it now.

i live in a small town…such a small town that we have one talent show. like, for elementary, middle and high school. those are the three different schools in my town. maybe we do it this way to save costs. idk. there’s not that many people in our school district, but, it’s everyone i have ever grown up with. anyways, so i was the MC for the talent show, as a high schooler. they almost weren’t going to have the talent show that year because the usual family who was in charge were too busy but my mother volunteered to run it.

i basically did everything, the sign ups, canva fliers and the little booklet that tells you who is preforming what and stuff. but, i actually thought it would save time and be more efficient if everyone scanned a QR code and it opened up a canva page with the order of everyone and what they were doing, who’s songs they were covering, etc. this allowed me to easily change things around if people dropped out or whatever, which always happens. (my performance got cut 😐 that’s a story for another time ig). this all sounds kinda jank because i was 16, what can i say.

anyways, the talent show comes around and i do a great job MCing, i remember everyone’s names and order so i don’t need to read off of a paper, which i always thought was a bit unprofessional of the last guy who did it (so yes, i have no script at all. i am making it all up on the spot other than the predetermined order and doing a great job of it so far). a bit of info about the last guy. him and his wife usually ran the whole thing. they have LOTS of kids, but only two are relevant in this story. i’ll call them Holly and Riley. Riley is probably 12 or 13 at this time, she does not have a piece in this talent show, but in the audience. Riley used to play with my sister, so i know her well. we also know the family very well and have for many years. Holly is 7ish and does have a piece. i guess now is the time to say how similar they look. they seriously look like the same person. or, well, Holly looks exactly like Riley did 4 years ago when she played with my sister. i have called Holly Riley on several occasions.

i announce Holly, she has a little song about the countries of the world or something. it’s super cute. i say “give it up for Holly!” everyone claps and she leaves the stage. everything goes perfectly for the entire show. at the end…all the performers get up on the stage to do a final bow, curtsy, etc. i’m going through the list “Bob, Dylan, Kelly, Grace, Riley— frick, i mean Holly”. i panic. i can feel everybody starring at me. my face is getting red, and so is Holly’s. i make eye contact with Riley in the sidelines and she’s looking at me like “seriously bro”. for some reason i decide to dwell on this moment for a second longer and say, into the microphone in front of everyone i’ve event known, “sorry, you look so much like your sister”. Holly replies to me “yeah i know 😒”…clearly not amused by my fuck up. i can feel literally everyone in my town’s second hand embarrassment for me. Holly does a weak little curtsy and i continue announcing everybody. i don’t remember anything after that moment. must have blacked out. it really wouldn’t have been that bad if i just went “Riley— Holly!” and moved on but the fact i doubled down like anyone needed an explanation. i am cringing writing this but also laughing and i hope you are, too.

TLDR: i was MCing a school talent show and i called a girl by her older sisters name on the microphone in front of everybody because they look so similar.

yesterday at 10:30am, i sent my mom (and also my best friend) a screenshot of the $1 nacho fries with $1 enchilada purchase at taco bell. i said with the screenshot “let’s go this afternoon?” she loved the image. no other words about it were exchanged. she then texted me at 12:30pm asking if my friends would be using her pool this evening (i live with my dad but am often at my moms house). i replied “no”. i then was feeling like i wanted some taco bell so i called her at 1pm and at 1:02pm to see if she actually wanted to go, it was just silent and not ringing so i texted her “can you call me? it’s not ringing for some reason”. at 1:15 i texted again “please call me”, and i called her 3 more times at 1:15, 1:17 and 1:20pm (it was appearing to ring at those times). with my mom, she is often distracted and not with her phone, so i waited a bit and called her again at 2:07, surprise surprise she didn’t answer. i texted my little brother “are you with mom” “no” “where is she” “here but not in my room”. he was looking like no help so i stopped texting him. i called her one last time at 2:50. i then decided that it was pretty annoying that i can’t get ahold of her and it looks like she doesn’t want to go…or if she does, oh well, i tried 🤷 my friend called me at 3:15pm asking if i wanted to go to taco bell with her and her sisters and i agreed. we came to my moms house from tb around 4, my mom was finally conscious at the time and asked where we were…i said we went to taco bell for the $1 nacho fry with $1 enchilada. she flipped out and said she told me she wanted to go. i told her i called her literally 7 times and she didn’t answer…she had no excuse for that. my brother joined the convo and said he would have wanted taco bell. i said “sorry bro, i tried to get ahold of mom” and he told me i should’ve tried harder. he also said if i mentioned food, he would’ve left his room to go find her, lol. my mom works at 6pm, so by the time i got home and reminded her of the taco bell deal, it was been too late for her to go. i feel like this isn’t really a big deal at all but my brother is still acting mad at me today. i haven’t heard from my mom. AITAH? should i have literally came over to wake her up and see if she wanted taco bell? that seems ridiculous. (she also might’ve been chit chatting with her husband, doing chores, etc. idk what she was doing when she was ignoring my 7 calls bc i didn’t ask).

lately i’ve seen a trend, probably started by vloggers, tiktokers, etc where normal people (not on yt or tiktok) think they need all new stuff for the school year. what about you guys? new stuff, or using your old stuff? obviously i need new notebooks for each class and pens when they go bad but i see no reason to buy backpacks and folders and stuff every single year. i got my good quality backpack so it wouldn’t break and i wouldn’t need a new one.

it’s one of my friend’s birthday on saturday, and she wants to go to a ropes course/zip line place. tickets are $60. i already purchased tickets for myself and her, since it’s her birthday. our other friend is going, and doesn’t want to pay for herself…on one hand, it’s not my fault she is bad with money (gets paid $20 an hour, has no bills but never has any money bc she spends very frivolously) and i don’t want to pay for her since…well i’m only paying for my other friend because it’s her birthday. on the other hand, im afraid my birthday friend won’t want to go if this other girl protests about not wanting to pay for herself. again, i know she has money as she literally got paid today, she’s just really bad with it and frankly doesn’t want to pay that much. if it was me and i didn’t want to pay, id just not come, do something else while we’re at the ropes course. but she’s expecting us (me and my birthday friend) to pay for her…yes i know that’s unrealistic and she’s not being a good friend by doing that, but it’s what is happening. what should i do?

i’m trying to make the most out of every day and not waste my summer. sometimes though, i don’t have plans so i don’t really do much so i’m looking for ideas as well.

from my understanding, niu is a chinese company, so i paid no attention to the holiday when ordering my scooter. but now, its been 4 business days, and it hasn’t shipped. wondering if the 4th could possibly affect it. i ordered two scooters, one for me and one for my bestie’s birthday. when i ordered them, it said it would come before her birthday and i had no reason not to trust that timeline, but now im a bit worried.

wondering everyone’s opinions on this

one of my friends, let’s call her mara, she’s supposedly one of my best friends, but we hardly hang out. she has a lot of mental illness so she doesn’t do much but she says she likes to hang out with me, and the last of my parties she attended, she was going to leave earlier on but then her girlfriend came and they stayed all night, and she told me after that she had a lot of fun and was glad she stayed.

now fast forward to last week. i talked to mara and her girlfriend individually about the hangout i was having. mara told me she was available after she got off work at around 1:30, and she specifically said “i would love to” when i asked her if she wanted to come. her girlfriend was more non-committal by saying “that would be fun”, but i figured wtv, at least mara will come. i finished the communication with both of them, and a few days later (yesterday) made a group chat with about 7 people, including mara and her girlfriend.

the first thing i said in the gc was info about what time to come over (in the evening, hours after mara got off work, which i told them both earlier), what we’d be doing and what food we’d have. mara’s girlfriend liked the message. but they never showed up and never said anything to me about it…? mara doesn’t have a car, so i thought she might ask for a ride if she was coming and her girlfriend wasn’t, but the text never came.

i updated the group chat several times about what we were doing, in case they were coming late, but they didn’t. we still had lots of fun without them, but it was a bit sad for me to have my friend tell me she’s coming to my hang, not show up and never text why. maybe they ended up hanging out with one of mara’s girlfriend’s friends, but it would’ve been nice if i was updated on that.

well, silly teens, what do we think happened? i’m curious if there’s anything i’m not considering. currently i just feel like my friend lowk blew me off.

so there’s been this insect in my bedroom for at least a week. i discovered it just before i was leaving for a trip. it flew right at me, i was terrified so i hid under my blanket. while under there, i started googling and im pretty sure its a mud dauber. i have not taken a photo because im pretty scared of stinging insects. i started hearing it trying to escape via the glass on my outside door. i then quickly exited the room, went around the house and i opened the door from the outside, then ran at least 15 feet back. i waited for a bit until i thought i saw it flying away, then i went back in my room to finish packing. i had thought it had left. today, i hear the same buzzing sound coming from behind the blinds on my outside door. as i was writing this post, the bug left the door and i don’t know where it is right now. i want it gone. i’m very scared it will sting me tho. any advice?

last night, my friend mentioned maybe we were going to hang out, or maybe her and her other friend were going to the july 4th carnival. plans sounded very up in the air so i texted an hour ago “what’s the plan for today?”. she just texted back “***** is going to cut my hair and then we were wondering if you’d take us to the store”.

no invite. just wanting to use me for a ride 😐

i don’t mind being the one who drives if we’re hanging out, since i have a car and they don’t, but if im not invited at all…? i don’t really want to take time out of my day to take them to the store, to buy food for a hang out i’m not invited to.

i feel like im being used. this is not the first time this has happened, and ive done it before, but i don’t want to do it this time. any advice for what i should say?
