house/pet sitting recommendations?

I searched but the results are years old. Trusted house sitters has mixed reviews so I thought I'd ask here.

I need to leave the country for 2 weeks this winter. My dogs are rottweilers boy/girl both unfixed. Male 7.5 & female is 3.

They are well socialized with other dogs but the female is very cautious around new people. The male is much more friendly with humans than she is.

If you know anyone trustworthy that house sits and is experienced with bigger dogs let me know, thanks.

Dirty composite wood siding.

I tried asking on r/painting but got only one response & the guys on r/DIY were just poking at me & being glib.

Had work done on one side of the house, the siding took a beating. Its the older composite they don't make anymore.

Then I tried to clean it, when I did it some of the cleaner went behind the siding & didn't get washed off all the way, it dripped down and ate into the paint now there's white vertical streaks everywhere, it looks bad.

I want to repaint it so I pressure washed it again, scrubbed it with a drill brush & soap and it still ain't coming off.

My neighbor said you can just paint over it, but I want to fix it right.

Can I just spot prime those spots where the dirt is etched in or should I use something like 220 grit and just scuff the top coat?

prepping dirty/damaged exterior paint

There was a bunch of work done on one side of my house and the paint job on the siding took a beating. There's plenty of paint on there and its good condition its just really dirty. Pressure washing didn't get it off.

Its composite wood siding. My question is what is proper procedure, I was thinking a rotary or orbital sander with something like 220 grit.

Exterior paint prep

One side of my house needs to be repainted. There was excavation work done on that side and it got really dirty/scuffed in a few spots.

The soil is heavy clay and it gets a bit lighter with scrubbing but it does not come off completely.

Then I tried pressure washing it but it didn't get the dirt off and I messed up by not washing all the soap out so now there's white vertical streaks where I missed a spot (everywhere). It looks terrible.

I think I can do it; its a one story house & I have matching paint/primer and a paint sprayer. The siding is composite wood.

Its only one color on the entire side so I don't need to tape anything off, I will lay down plastic the length so no paint gets on the ground.

Should I just clean/sand the really dirty parts lightly then apply the second coat with the sprayer? Do I need to bother with priming over the scuffed paint?

I had to kill a tiny bunny

I was outside prepping one side of my house for painting and I saw a little brush bunny running away into the neighbors yard. I look over and my dog is very interested in something in the bushes.

She either pounced on it or did that thing where they bite it and whip it back and forth.

It was breathing but not moving, I tried to get it to move but it wasn't happening.

So I gave it like 30 mins to see if it would go away if we went inside. Still there, so grabbed a hammer and thought I'd just smash its head in NP, got out there and couldn't do it.

I picked up and laid down on a rock, it gave me this 'kill me' look and I couldn't take it anymore so I grabbed both ends and pulled. I almost ripped it in half but I wanted to be sure.

Never had to do something like that before. 😶

Dog coughing for weeks

Rottweiler, male, intact 120lbs 7.5 years. No history, always been healthy.

Dog started coughing roughly 3 weeks ago. Took him to the vet, they didn't give him enough sedation and he was fussing so they couldn't take the x ray. Sent us home with antibiotics.

2 weeks later, almost end of antibiotics & hes still coughing but seems fine otherwise, is eating normally and wants to play.

Can't tell if its getting better or worse, sounds about the same. Wheezing cough with unproductive terminal retch, sounds like fluid in the lungs that won't come out.

Called the vet again this morning they said to bring him in and we'll try a different method to sedate him for the x ray.

At this point I'm thinking its probably something serious since it hasn't cleared up on its own and antibiotics didn't even help.

So I'm wondering is it worth the ~$1000 vet trip. He doesn't have insurance and if its CHF or cancer or something horrible like that I don't have the money to keep up with the treatments anyway.

vmc16 piston replace

I've had this for like 5 years and use it everyday.

It wasn't sealing, seems like this piston failed.

Anyone replace this before on a similar model? It looks like i just unscrew around the housing to remove the tray then I can get to it to replace.

Also the lid doesn't stay up anymore, any idea on how to fix that appreciated.

School chairs

every school I've ever entered in the USA used some variation of this chair in at least some of the classrooms.

I hated sitting in these things, it felt so awkward and uncomfortable.

Zone 9a, I am clearing out a large patch of ivy and want to plant a berry thicket in its place with local varieties.

Saw an ad on CL for established blueberries, he's got 3 different kinds & charging $100 a plant, but in the pictures they look huge, says they are 20-30 years old & I can pick which ones I want.

I have a truck to get them back to my place but I am wondering if there's anything special I need to do beyond amending the soil to be more acidic. Also if its even worth it or if I should go with smaller starts.

Google says prune the roots and some woody growth to reduce transplant shock, any other suggestions welcome.

Before DMT use was widely known or even niche,

During WWII, pilots particularly in the Royal Air Force (Britain) but also in the US air force, reported sightings of small creatures that would troll airmen & sabotage aircraft.

Appearing in lore as early as the 1920s, these creatures became a widely accepted scapegoat for unexplained technical malfunctions by 1942.

Terrance Mckenna popularized the idea of 'Machine Elves' thereafter but many people have reported similar entities who had no idea who Terrance Mckenna was during DMT experiences as well.

I can't help but draw a similarity here & wonder what/if others ever think about this. What might the implications be for AI, quantum computers, advanced materials, etc.

All cyber security we have til now might just be a joke & these little fuckers in pointy hats are laughing audible symmetrical fractal rainbows at us.
