Only ~435 copies have been graded by PSA across all grades nearly 10 years after release.

This Mew was distributed exclusively at the 2016 Pokémon Card Game 20th Anniversary Festa in Japan, held on only TWO days: October 10 in Niigata and October 23 in Nagoya.

It wasn’t just handed out either. Players had to earn 12 Play Points through participation and wins at those Two Festa day events, with the choice of this Mew or Pikachu offered at the 12-point reward tier.

The card features exclusive artwork by Mitsuhiro Arita, his printed English signature, and the 20th Anniversary Festa stamp not printed anywhere else.

One of my favorite parts of the card is the art history behind it:

This Mew and the matching Battle Festa Pikachu originate from a larger Viridian Forest composition by Mitsuhiro Arita, and the original hand-drawn artwork has even been publicly exhibited by Pokémon alongside the finished scene.

Such unique, rich art history that I feel like isn’t talked about much in comparison to other mainstream Mew cards. It’s possible it has less copies than even the 1510 Chinese Mew!

Definitely one of my favorite Mews of all time!!

I think Gold Stars are actually very lackluster in the context of their price tags and artwork haha they aren’t too interesting to me anymore. I dont really like to pay for top condition scarcity for vintage, as this card is plentiful outside the top grades. Nevertheless, I was very happy with cracking this BGS Mew i got in 2023 and regraded with CGC this past year and got a 10!

I sold it off, but it was a cool experience to have because it was one of the first Mew’s I ever bought. I would never buy a Gold Star at the current market prices as theres dozens of Mew’s much more interesting than the gold star, but if you like vintage and 10s, this is pretty sick!

I have heavy documentation of my card lol but you can see before and after. The card didnt have this issue when I got it back, but over some time it starting getting black ink splotches everywhere. No other card I have does this or has ever had a surface change, and I’ve heard these gold cards have had multiple QC problems already. any idea whats going on here? And no i have no mold or air quality issues, all my cards are kept safe with humidity control

One of those cases where each print has their own charm, I dont think JP is strictly better here. JP wins in saturation and texture depth, but I really like the high sheen that illuminates the whole card in ENG as well as the oranger sunset.

Even though JP has the stronger saturation, its actually harder to get the whole card to shine compared to english

It’s only a PSA 3 but eye appeal is everything to me. the swirl is so strong you can see it in pretty much any lighting! It’s pretty rare too, so hard to even find a head swirl to begin with

nurikabe does a great job in making then look like the giant titans that they are. Really cool pairing from different sets!
