The Night Marilyn Monroe Invited Photographer Douglas Kirkland Over For an Iconic Shoot

On the night of November 17, 1961, Marilyn Monroe was was wrapped in white silk sheets as photographer Douglas Kirkland prepared to take an iconic photo of the Hollywood goddess. The music of Frank Sinatra played in the background, and Monroe sipped from a glass of Dom Pérignon, the only champagne she drank.

“It was just me, my camera and Marilyn,” said the photographer, who died in 2022 at age 88.
