Soft Red What Rickhouse Proof

I love this stuff, been drinking it for years.

The flavor profile on SRW is baked goods and honey. I love it.

Anybody else have a thing for this stuff?

Willet 4-yr rye vs Smokeye Hill 5-yr rye

I was chatting with someone earlier about these two and which one is better. Which tastes like pickles, etc.

Willett 4-yr green top eye I bought last year at Costco for about $65. It has a nice nose

Nose: call me crazy but this one smells like liquid brown sugar or creme brulee. I get caramel syrup from the dispenser at Golden corral vibes.

Palate: instantly comes across as bright and fruity but turns into a mess of vague vegetal and pine flavors. After a moment on the back of the palate I get dark sugar marshmallow. It's a roller coaster for me.

Finish: it's shortee than I'd like and there's a weird moment of pineapple and green apple.

Overall: I don't hate this whiskey but it's a bit all over the place for me. I love it then I hate it, repeat. I would buy this again at Costco price.

Smokeye Hill 5-yr blow corn rye. This one is about $80 at the local Total Wine.

Nose: needed to open this guy up a bit to really get a good feel. The first few nosings were sharp but after 10-15 minutes it turns into an oaky vanilla pickle. I dig it.

Palate: hits me with confectioners sugar, rye spice, some drying qualities and then some pickle. The first three sips were very harsh, very drying and quite bad. 15 minutes needed for this to open up. I like it quite a bit.

Finish: the pickle finally wears off and I start getting an Italian seasoning note. This is a pretty good finish that sits in a candied pickle like state.

Overall: this is a really interesting pour and I like it more for the fact it's unique than it is good, I think. Don't get me wrong, it's good and worth ordering at a bar to see if it fits your palate but at the MSRP it's likely to fall flat for most people.

Winner: for me it's the smokeye because it's such a unique vibe and the nose, palate and finish are consistent with a very long finish.

What's the story with Willett?

Genuinely curious as I've never tried most of their top stuff but plenty of random brands they produce.

I have Speakeasy, Old Bardstown, Noah's Mill, a Binder's Stash that's Willett, and a 4-yr Rye. They are all quite nice but I don't really understand how any of them would lead me to pay $80 for a 4-yr bourbon - that's the going rate for a purple top around here.

Everyone seems to trash on their Pot Still.

Their wheater is $260.

It just seems all over the place from bottom shelf to obscenely expensive store picks and unobtainable wheaters.

Do they have an identity crisis or do I just not get it?

35 cases

Meanwhile Total Wine is still holding this stuff back for grand reserve members to wait in line in a parking lot.

Are there rage-baiting bots that comment on reddit?

I feel this may be an especially stupid question but I have been in some very random arguments, well, not even arguments, just confused moments lately.

A poster in one thread said "reported for racism" and then in another post accused me of being racist. It was a post about fuel mileage and not a single person in that thread said anything relating to race.

Another time I have someone arguing that the only people who ever buy something out of desire are children. No real person says that, right? Children don't even have money. Buying Starbucks, or, hell, almost anything is out of desire. Ever bought a stainless steel fridge instead of an almond one? That's out of desire, right?

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Monkey Mafia Business

Allow me to introduce my newest RC bottle from Flagstaff, AZ.

This is the first HRC I've seen in the wild, it's also not on their barrel breakdown so I'm a little lost. I do know a few things:

$110

10 year 9 month MGP high rye - 60/36/4.

A friend who lives up there picked it up for me and I've been waiting a month to get it. Needless to say the stoke level is high.

The nose on this one is creamy. Cream soda. A lot of sweetness from molasses and creme brulee. It's fantastic and I can't wait to taste it.

It's very sweet on the palate. Those bold, dark sweetness notes come through as a pancakes with syrup note to me. It's quite good. There's oak tannins on the back.

Finish is very long. The flavors get pretty intense, to be honest. The cream soda eventually made a return.

I buy almost every Rare Character I see and out of the 24 (current count) this one is probably top 5.

Can I just complain about the fuel mileage?

2026 Turbo Meridian with about 600 miles.

I drive like someone who's trying to get the MPG award.

I'm getting 21.2 average so far.

I'm using 91 octane because they told me it helps. It doesn't help. I monitor tire pressure. It doesn't help.

Is this actually normal?

edit: is this sub even moderated? This thread is a war zone with so many constructive or innocuous down-voted comments - I'm trying to give you all upvotes and don't know why people are downvoting a comment like:

>Yes, that is completely normal. My 50 is getting ready to turn 20,000 miles, and the best I've ever seen is 24 mpg on a 300-mile road trip. Also, the tank is about 3 gallons too small, which doesn't help the situation.

And the guy who keeps saying I'm making racist comments and then deleting his post? What's that all about?

12 years on reddit and I can't remember ever encountering a place with so many miserable and argumentative people.

Rare Character lovers unite

I love what these guys are doing.

What's your favorite RC bottle?

The much loved TKO is great but I dig the K13 and HF13 bottles most.

Trevor's PV

Three of us there at opening, this probably will sell out quick.

11-Year Green River. The cellar's and Sam's BRW picks were great, excited to drink this one!

First time seeing this new Buffalo Trace product. It's pretty good, kind of on profile for BT. It's a little more caramel and oak than ER but otherwise it seems like a really similar product.

Bought a Charter Oak today so I had to make room on the BT shelf.

RIP and thank you for your service.

I have three bottles from Dream Spirits and they all have this in the bottom. When it floats around it dissipates a bit, there's a lot of it.

I've actually posted about this before but I have since been able to isolate the issue specifically to my Pixel 10 Pro.

2026 Mazda CX-50. Yes, I know, the Mazda wireless charger has a reputation for being a finnicky piece of shit. In reality, it's pretty great and charges my Pixel 9 pretty well, my mom's Pixel 8 pretty well, my girlfriend's iPhone, my friend's iPhone. Everything works magically.

My P10P starts to charge when I place it on the charger but after about 5-8 seconds the charger light changes from green to flashing red and the phone stops charging.

The phone charges on the old Anker wireless charger sitting on my office desk. I bought that thing on Amazon like 4 years ago, there's no way it's the current technology. I bring this up because if the new Pixels are locking out old QI technology, why would it be working on this one?

I'm now convinced there is some sort of security setting within this phone that's making it fight with the Mazda charger.

I have played with the adaptive battery settings, the bluetooth settings, NFC settings, etc. Everything I can find on Google I've tried and now I'm losing it.

Does anyone have a clue what's going on here? People in the Mazda sub are just like "go buy another wireless charger" but I don't want a janky workaround. They say "use corded charging" and yeah, that's an option I use sometimes but not what I really want.

17-year age stated Diagio blend with a great label and a bullshit story about finding these long lost orphan barrels.

Widely believed to be Barton and Early Times. This one smells nice enough, kind of an old dusty. I get this weird minty thing on the palate and a lot of oak. It's heavy on the oak.

To the guy earlier asking if this is a good buy I am here to tell you no. No, it is not.

I posted before that my wireless pad wasn't working and people were chalking it up to the wireless pad being a piece of shit. As it turns out, that's not the problem at all; the charger is decent.

The problem is my phone and I don't know what to do next.

3 iPhones and 2 pixels have all worked well on my charging pad.

I have a Pixel 10 Pro.

Does anyone know what I can do? I've googled for hours and changed settings for so many things.
