I designed and made two wooden Talisman dashboards. Which version would you prefer?

Talisman is one of my favourite games, so I designed, laser-cut, assembled, and finished these wooden accessories myself for our sessions with friends.

The flat dashboard keeps the original cone trackers because some of my friends prefer using them. It holds the character card and has a small vault for gold, plus space for fate tokens.

The other version uses magnetic wheels to track stats and gold, and can sit flat or at an incline. I wanted a sturdy piece with a rustic finish that feels like it belongs in the game.

I also made separate card holders and am experimenting with a larger setup that folds away, though that’s still a prototype.

Would you stick with the cones or prefer the wheels? What would you suggest I fix, change, or add to make these more useful during a game?

Astra is cool, but so hard to make animations. Here are some I have made.

Yeah, I have been using Claude Fable and am now working with Astra in VS Code.

It is nice. I would say better than Fable. But holy cow, how fast those credits burn is crazy to me.

Still trying to figure out how to even prompt some of these animations properly. I have to give details, and in a 3d environment is quite complex. In my VFX Studio, I made it work for a 2d environment where I can set up keyframes just like a normal video tool, and it auto generates me the code that I need. Now that I am messing with a 3D environment for my mobile version of my game is where things start to get complex.

Anyways, do you guys feel this is okay/convincing enough? I am just trying to make a proof of concept game in hope to get some backers.

[Web] Hunt Protocol - hunting battle card game looking for playtesters

Hey! I've been working on Hunt Protocol, a hunting battle card game, and I recently pushed a major update to the playable browser prototype. I'd love to get some fresh feedback! game is still in progress.

Game Title: Hunt Protocol

Playable Link:
https://huntprotocol.cloudwanderstudios.com/

Platform: Web browser, desktop.

Description:
Hunt Protocol is a battle card game where you choose a Hunter and deck, then hunt Monsters using attacks, weapons, resources and card combos.

Different Hunters and decks encourage different strategies, and Monsters have their own abilities that can disrupt your plans. There is also an Arcade mode where you fight through a series of hunts and choose upgrades between battles.

The long-term goal is multiplayer, where 2 to 4 players race to defeat the same Monster. Monster health is tracked separately for each player, so it is about adapting to your hand and building effective combos faster than your opponents rather than attacking one shared health pool.

Free to Play Status:

  • Free to play

Involvement:
I am the creator and game/UX designer of Hunt Protocol and am developing the current digital prototype.

Any feedback on the combat, balance, clarity, difficulty or general fun factor would be greatly appreciated!

Art Disclaimer:
Some artwork is currently placeholder. I was commissioning artists for the physical version, but after recently losing my job I had to pause art production while I continue developing and playtesting the game. here you can see the final arts of the physical cards: https://www.reddit.com/r/TCG/comments/1vlqzl8/should_i_quit_working_on_my_game/

Feeling like to quit

New set of 4 cards, but I think I will have to quit or take a very long break.

I’ve been working on Hunt Protocol for about a year and a half. It’s a PvE monster hunting card game for up to 4 players where the goal isn’t to beat each other but to take down a monster as a group, just faster and cleaner than everyone else. Each player has their own HP so you’re all racing to build the best combo and kill it with the fewest cards possible. I’ve been putting almost all my free time into the decks, the playtesting, the UI and the design while also working with some really talented artists on the cards. I’m a designer so that part came naturally, but still, it’s a lot.

I even created a digital version with Vercel for playtesting, so far with no images and I was working on some cool animation to release late August.

The problem is I keep posting, and it feels like nobody cares. Playtesting has been very positive, yeah; people seem to like the idea when they actually try it and were having fun making combos, but online it’s just silence. Without some kind of fan base or even any spec of interest, it’s hard to keep pushing, and right now I don’t know if any of this is even appealing to anyone outside the people who already sat at the table with me.

On top of that, last week I lost my job because of AI. I was doing UX design and managing a team, but my company decided to create AI agents with no further need of my skills, even tho of 5 yearsI gave them. It felt super degrading. Now I’m under a lot of stress trying to find anything that can keep my family going, and I just can’t keep pouring my savings into this dream of building a studio when I have so many other ideas I wanted to make too.

I’m not looking for pity. I just want honest answers. Should I quit? Is it even worth it at this point? Does it look like crap? I had hopes of having everything ready by this winter but of course I had to get fired right when things were starting to move. Everything feels like a race in this saturated market, and by the time I manage to get back on my feet I am so sure someone with more money, better marketing, and probably from America will already have something similar or better looking out there. Being from Europe already makes selling this feel ten times harder.

Sorry for the rant. I’m just tired and upset and honestly close to giving up on the whole thing. Thanks for reading anyway.

Tales of Skyland: Legend of the Soulwards | New 26-minute fantasy audio drama pilot

Hi everyone. I recently finished the pilot for Tales of Skyland: Legend of the Soulwards.

It is a fantasy audio drama set in a world shaped by Ether and scarred by Corruption. The episode begins when a kid enters a tavern looking for someone willing to help his village after it is attacked by a massive Shadow.

The pilot is around 26 minutes long. I created and wrote it, handled the music, editing and sound effects, and worked with a full voice cast to bring the characters together.

This is my first time producing something like this, so I would honestly appreciate feedback from audio-drama listeners. I would especially like to know what worked, what could be improved, and whether you would be interested in hearing the story continue.

Italian cross-border worker laid off after 5 years in Ticino. What should I do now?

Sorry if this becomes long, but I am still trying to process everything and understand what my options are.

I am an Italian cross-border worker with a G permit. I have worked for the same tech consultancy company in Ticino for the past five years as a Product and UX Designer, earning around CHF 55,000 per year. (Not the best for what I heard, but it was okay for me.)

Yesterday I was first told verbally, and then received written confirmation, that they are terminating my employment with a 2-month notice period.

The official reason they gave me was economic and organisational. They said there is no longer enough client demand for UX and design work, so they cannot guarantee enough work for my role and need to reduce costs and move resources elsewhere.

This was extremely unexpected, especially now at the beginning of August. Anyone looking for work knows that August is basically a dead month because everyone is on holiday. That gives me, realistically, only September to find something before my salary stops.

I tried asking whether they could at least extend the notice by one extra month because of the terrible timing. They said they would think about it, but the written termination still says the end of September. I have not signed it yet because I wanted to do some investigation first.

I did notice there was less pure UX work from clients since the beginning of this year. However, I was still working full-time. I was creating marketing content, writing or preparing posts for their blog and social media, fixing and improving the company website, producing designs, and even still doing a few UX and design-related work.

The company has more than ten developers and around four people in marketing. I was the only person handling broader Product and UX Design work. There is another designer, but their work is mostly banners, posters, and similar graphic material rather than product or UX work.

Because I was constantly being given work, I did not believe my position was in immediate danger. They also renewed my G permit for another five years early this March, which made me feel more secure. I had asked whether everything was going okay and was told yes, as they were getting new leads.

Apparently I was so wrong and should have trusted my gut feeling.

I understand that companies in Switzerland can terminate employment on the spot, which was one of my biggest fears, but I was assured, as they kept telling us constantly that they would never do such a thing and always help us to relocate to a new job in case they do feel the need.

Things definitely changed after one of my old co-bosses took command, which is what makes me feel that this situation can be a bit targeted. Again, just a gut feeling!

Around two years ago, I had a serious issue with this individual. There was a client project that signed for headless development work, where my UX and design work had been completed, documented, and approved by both the client and my company, ready for development. However, development was delayed for around six months because the company moved its developers onto another client they believed would make more money.

Clearly, this made the client very unhappy, and this Individual decided to take a shortcut with a Shopify template instead of headless as they promised. Of course, transforming a design with headless purpose into a template is nearly impossible, making them still spend a lot of time to deliver the final product (note: this was not a normal simple e-commerce but something completely different). Well, this Individual tried to blame the delay on me. Fortunately, I had documented everything and was able to show in front of other colleagues that my work had been completed and approved, and that the project was waiting to be developed. Clearing my name that I had worked on, provided, and everything was approved by both parties.

After that, this individual basically stopped speaking to me, greeting me or even looking at me normally. I continued trying to be professional, helpful, and careful with extra documentation, and even providing ready assets to the developers for something quicker. Clients still communicated with me directly because I was often the person keeping projects moving.

Later, this individual decided to hire a project manager, as they said to "ease" responsibilities from me, even tho I was the one training the new project managers, working on other projects. Creating Webflow websites, and even marketing content.

I do not have direct proof is personal aside from the recorded video meeting where this individual was pointing fingers at me and also many others with his clear, specific behavior towards me. Still, I want to leave him room for doubt. It may genuinely be because the UX market is bad; they are cutting corners with AI, as I have seen them dropping my designs into Claude, and they clearly do not have enough client projects. Still, I cannot stop thinking about it, as they do not find value in my skills even though I have done so much in these past months for them.

Something that has me really pulling my hair out is that I recently found out that, because I live in Italy and work in Switzerland as a frontaliere, unemployment support would apparently be handled by Italy rather than Switzerland. Financially, that creates a serious problem because Italian unemployment support would not come close to replacing my salary. Would be just enough to pay my rent.

Another point that I brought to them if they could give me more time to look for a new position because my wife is pregnant and currently does not work. The company is aware of this. I know pregnancy does not automatically give me legal protection as the husband, and I am not expecting special treatment or pity. I mention it only because the timing makes the situation much more difficult for my family.

What I am trying to understand is whether there is anything intelligent I should do before signing the letter and my contract ends.

Should I speak to an employment lawyer or a union just to have the situation reviewed, especially considering the previous conflict? Is there any realistic possibility of asking for an extra month, compensation or some other support, or are they completely within their rights as long as they respect the two-month notice?

What documents should I make sure to receive before leaving? I know about the employment certificate, but I have also seen people mention the U1 document, the LPP pension statement and the vested benefits accumulated during employment.

Can a frontaliere register with any Swiss employment service while still working the notice period, or am I completely excluded because I live in Italy? Am I entitled to take reasonable time during working hours for interviews?

I am also wondering what happens to the occupational pension I have accumulated during these five years and whether any part of it can be accessed after the employment ends.

Finally, does anyone know recruiters, companies or job platforms that are useful for Product and UX roles in Ticino or remote positions connected to Switzerland? Relocating to Zurich is not possible for me, but I can travel when needed with my car, and I can work remotely or hybrid.

I am already starting to search. I know I may simply have to accept that this is legal and move forward as quickly as possible.

I am not here asking for pity. I just want to understand whether there are rights, documents, or options I may be missing before these two months are gone.

Thank you if you read this very long post and for any helpful comment or advice.

Laid off after five years, three weeks after finding out my wife is pregnant. I am shattering...

Today I got the news.

After five years working as a frontalier from Italy to Switzerland in a tech consultancy as UX lead designer, they told me they don’t need me anymore. They’re reallocating needs because right now there’s not much demand or clients asking for me, so they no longer see the value.

It fully shattered me… even though a part of me was expecting it.

I don’t know who or what to blame. The rise of AI? The industry shifting? Or myself for feeling safe for a moment, for resting in the hope that things would be okay, and for trying to start my own creative business on the side. A year and a half of spending a lot of my own money on art and creation, working with many amazing people outside of the office… all of that now feels like it was for nothing.

I blame myself for following a dream. For hoping I could bring my ideas to others. And now what?

Three weeks ago my wife and I found out we are expecting a baby. What was supposed to be an amazing moment of expecting a new member of the family turned into dread and fear in a matter of seconds.

I don’t know what I’m going to do.

I’ve put so much time into UX and design, and also into other projects where nothing seems to become of any real value. Now I have to take care of my wife (who doesn’t work), my sick mother who has no pension, and soon a newborn. The stress is ripping me apart and I can’t find any solutions. The stress is shattering my skull.

I want to scream. I want to cry. I want to curse it all. But everything is still shut inside while I slowly realize that something I never expected to happen is actually happening. It feels like a terrible dream.

Some people will just say “not a big deal, just look for another job.” But Italian salaries will never replace what I was earning in Switzerland. And that salary still wasn’t high enough for everything I need right now to cover the expenses of a family of three plus a baby. Aside from the debt I have to pay for the side projects I was working on.

Damn the irony. This reminds me of the words of my dear professor back in my college years in 2016... "Never give too many years to a company who will not value you tomorrow." Her words are really resonating with me right now.

I feel so trapped. So insignificant. One day I felt like I could do it all. The next I may be reduced to dust.

Type Hunters - Looking for honest feedback on a free browser typing wave survival game I made.

Hey everyone,

I recently put together a small free browser game called Type Hunters. The idea is simple: you type attack names and phrases to fight waves of enemies and a final boss. Speed and accuracy affect how well you do, with a charge bar for extra damage, and incoming attacks you block by typing quickly some words that appear.

I honestly don’t know if the concept is fun enough to keep developing. I just tried the idea, and now I’m looking for real opinions before I spend more time on it.

If you play a run, I’d really appreciate any thoughts on whether it feels satisfying or not. What works, what feels off, and whether you’d actually play it more than once.

I’m also thinking about a second mode that mixes typing with timing. Something closer to a rhythm/timing combat game where you have to type words or hit keys as they appear on screen at the right moment, for an endless survival-style fight. Not sure if that would be more interesting or just more complicated.

I am also working on new assets that I am preparing, but as I said, I am testing if this idea is fun enough before of putting more time as I want it to be fun and feel original.

Any honest feedback is welcome. Thanks for reading.

Finally things are getting more shape! Hunt Protocol new card designs & Art direction

So happy to share more of how the game is going so far!

We are getting more of the action cards and finally creating the new, different frames for the 4 core cards: Attack, Support, Defense, and Sigil.

Now a full combo is starting to get more shape, following a proper sequence of moves and combinations.

On page 3, you can take a better look at the core Tag requirements for move cards and equipment that enable you to use those cards. I hope the icons feel intuitive enough, as I am reviewing the colors; some cards can have a combination of 2 tags, usually with "Pierce," as it is never meant to be a stand-alone tag.

Art has been super expensive but super worth it, so I need to keep pushing, as the more I am into this, I am understanding I cannot hope to crowdfund the art but just the print, so my goal is to work and create a finished game with at least 2 playable decks, 6 hunter cards, and 12 monsters to battle and compete against.

Last Image I added to show a big of a sneak peek of other cards we are working on ;)

So please share your thoughts and opinions with me. How are things feeling and reading?
Font size is generously large; I made it with comparisons with other print games like Pokémon, MTG, and Riftbound to guarantee the font size is larger than those without looking or feeling tacky.

Hunt Protocol | Attack cards: New Art + Frames and UI. Any feedback is super helpful!

Super excited to start moving forward now with the other cards of my game.

The Attack cards are 1 of the 4 core cards of the Hunting Deck to help you build your combo to defeat monsters. My core idea is that when placed side by side, you can feel an actual sequence of movesets based on your equipment. (Second image shows the example of the mat, many cards still missing that we are still working on it!)

In this case, I am working first on the 'Slice' tag cards. These are attacks that are mostly done with any weapon that has a blade on it, and we are trying to depict a different weapon based on the attack to showcase variety.

I am also working on a frame that feels like the one for the hunters but less busy since these are action cards rather than the character from the previous ones. If you want to check mere this is the old post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BoardgameDesign/comments/1u8d2ou/updated_hunter_frames_final_hunter_art_for_hunt/

I wonder what you guys can imagine or interpret from the UI then I can answer questions on the comments, since first impressions are valuable feedback for me :D

Thank you in advance for the help!

Beyond Feathertrail. Ep 2 - A night to remember

This is a side-toon that I am working on mostly for fun and laughs with my OCs. Should I continue it into a full toon? It is not meant to track any continuity just funny, dumb moments.
