Making ink do three jobs instead of one

Solo dev on INKURSION (narrative 3D platformer, you play an octopus). Ink's been the main thing I'm building lately — not just a visual effect, it's an attack against enemies, a way to paint walls, and how you break crates to get hats for the customisation system.

Getting all three out of one system was the annoying part. Enemy hits need to feel punchy, wall paint needs to actually stick around and look deliberate, crates need a break state that also spits out a pickup with ink collides.

You play a newly sentient octopus, brought to life by a programmer known only as the Sky King who guides you, tests you, and demands your loyalty, while abandoning every world he builds the moment something new catches his eye.

You're the first creation he's made with the power to change that. Eight arms, a grappling hook, a sword, ink, and the one thing he never accounted for... the will to use them.

It's a narrative 3D platformer with eight endings, genre-shifting worlds, and a fair amount of dark humour.
