Adding bugs to our game :)🪲

We’re a two-person team of biologists working on Garden of Ants, a minimalist ant colony-management game inspired in part by SimAnt.

We’re currently adding more bugs and other small creatures to the game.

Here are some of the ones we’ve made so far.

Do you have a favourite bug? Recommend one to us! :)

We’re adding new bugs to our ant colony strategy game – which species should we include?

Hi everyone,

We’re a two-person team of biologists working on a minimalist ant colony-management strategy game called Garden of Ants, inspired in part by SimAnt.

We’re currently expanding the ecosystem by adding new insects and other small creatures that ants can encounter, hunt, avoid, compete with, or interact with.

Our goal is for these species to be more than just enemies or decoration. We’d like them to have their own roles in the ecosystem and create different strategic situations for the colony — potential prey, predators, competitors, parasites, mutualists, or sources of resources.

The game already takes place across several connected habitats, including the underground nest, garden surface, and tree canopy. Conditions also change between day and night, so we’re interested in species whose behavior could vary depending on habitat or time of day.

We’d love to hear suggestions from people here: which insects or other arthropods would you like to see in an ant colony simulation? Are there any particularly interesting ant–insect interactions that you think would work well as game mechanics?

For context, here is the Steam page:

Thanks!

Tomas

Čeští nezávislí vývojáři tvoří virtuální mraveniště

Ahoj r/czech,

máte rádi mravence, ale nechcete, aby vás kousali? Tak by vás mohla bavit naše hra.

Jsme nezávislý český tým s vědeckými kořeny a chtěli bychom vám představit Garden of Ants – real-time simulaci mravenčí kolonie.

Postupně budete hloubit tunely, pěstovat houbu, sbírat potravu, rozvíjet různé kasty mravenců a bránit kolonii před predátory i konkurencí. Do budoucna plánujeme i multiplayer až pro 8 hráčů.

Pokud vás to zaujalo, budeme rádi, když si hru hodíte do wishlistu na Steamu. A hlavně budeme rádi za jakoukoliv zpětnou vazbu.

Zdar!

We’re biologists making a modern SimAnt-inspired RTS with a strong retro visual style

Hey folks!

We’re a two-biologist indie team building Garden of Ants, a modern RTS inspired by the legendary SimAnt.

Our latest update takes the colony into the trees. Ants can now climb branches, tend aphids for their sweet honeydew, and harvest leaves to support the nest below.

Garden of Ants combines classic real-time strategy with detailed colony management across three connected worlds: the underground nest, the surface, and the treetops. As day turns to night, conditions change, threats emerge, and your colony must adapt to survive.

Build the nest. Explore the surface. Conquer the canopy. And remember: even the smallest empire can become a force of nature. You can discover more on Steam:

We’d love to hear what you think. Every bit of feedback helps our colony grow!

Best,
Tomas

Some updates about our modern successor to SimAnt - Garden of Ants 🐜

Hey folks!

I’d like to share some updates about our indie project, Garden of Ants, a real-time ant colony simulation and strategy game.

In Garden of Ants, you grow and manage a living colony across three interconnected layers: the underground nest, a dynamic surface ecosystem, and a newly added tree layer. Your ants can now climb above the forest floor to explore branches, reach new resources, interact with aphids and other insects, and face threats unique to the treetops.

You’ll raise specialized castes, build functional chambers, react to day–night cycles, survive floods, and set priorities that allow the colony to self-organize.

You can follow the project on Steam:

First look at the leafcutter ant mechanics in our SimAnt-inspired RTS - Garden of Ants 🐜

Hey, ant enthusiasts!

We’re a two-biologist indie team working on Garden of Ants, a modern RTS inspired by SimAnt.

Here’s a first look at our leafcutter ants and their leafcutting mechanics in action. We’ve added a new above-ground tree layer, where you can tend aphids and harvest leaves.

It’s still an early version, so we’d love to hear what you think. Any feedback is welcome!

We’re two biologists making an ant colony strategy game with educational elements

Hey folks,

We’re two biologists working on Garden of Ants, a real-time strategy game where you manage an ant colony.

The game combines multiple ant species to showcase different survival strategies found in nature. Each caste in your colony is inspired by a unique species, and players can learn more about them through an in-game encyclopedia.

Gameplay-wise, it’s mainly inspired by classic RTS games, with some dungeon/colony management elements. Our goal is to find a good balance between fun gameplay and educational value.

Best,
Tomas
