Ich habe heute in Berlin die Zustellung von zwei wichtigen Paketen erwartet, aber leider wurde keines davon zugestellt. Beide Pakete wurden am Donnerstag verschickt, eines aus Köln, das andere aus der Gegend um Würzburg, und die letzten Statusmeldungen stammen vom Freitagnachmittag, wonach die Pakete für den Transport in die Empfängerregion vorbereitet wurden. Seit Freitag gab es keine weiteren Informationen mehr.

Normalerweise mache ich mir keine Gedanken über Verzögerungen, aber diese Pakete sind dieses Mal ziemlich wichtig. Gibt es derzeit bekannte Verzögerungen, die erklären könnten, warum sich seit Freitag nichts mehr getan hat?

I'm playing New York and build a 4 tracks line with local/express stations.

Later I added more station to make the line go further north and connected the new line to the existing one and added some crossovers. Now when I tried to add stops to the line I got error messages. I tried deleting the line and recreate it but still got errors when trying to add the new stops to the old ones.

What should I do ?

I’m finally setting up a booth at home, and I’m looking for a piece of furniture to hold my setup. I’ve searched through this subreddit and looked at quite a few online articles, but I’m struggling to find something that really fits.

Here’s what I’ve ruled out so far:

* Custom-built furniture isn’t really an option for me, either because I can’t build it myself (not enough space in my flat for that, nor the tools) or because having one made is too expensive.

* IKEA KALLAX seems like an obvious choice, but it’s only around 30 cm deep, while some of my hardware is up to 50 cm deep. I could potentially add a larger plank on top, but I’m not sure how stable that would be and how nice/practiceal it is to have a gap between the KALLAX and the wall behind, seems like a space to easily loose stuff accidentally.

* Desks tend to be too deep and, more importantly, almost always too short.

* Consoles and cabinets are generally too narrow both in width and depth despite being at a good height.

* Workbenches are often too narrow in width. Most of the nicer-looking ones I’ve found seem to max out at around 120 cm.

Ideally, I’m looking for something around these dimensions:

* Width: 140–160 cm (flexible, but 130 cm is the absolute minimum)

* Depth: 50–60 cm

* Height: 85–105 cm

I feel like these dimensions fall into a bit of a weird gap when it comes to ready-made furniture, so I’m wondering if anyone here has found a good solution.

Do you have any furniture pieces, brands, or setups you’d recommend?

I'm located in Germany when it comes to availability.

I have a Dell XPS with a Nvidia RTX 2060 & Intel CPU running Windows 11 on which Chrome is installed. For some time I noticed that my laptop's fan where cranking up very loudly when playing videos. By investigating the task manager I found that Chrome was heavily (30-40%) using the GPU for decoding the video which explained the fans noise.

My first idea was then to use the enhanced-h264ify extension to block AV1 and VC9 codecs which are known to be quite compute intensive, but that didn't change anything. I then tried disabling hardware acceleration in Chrome's settings which effectively disabled GPU decoding and made the laptop quieter but then the video playback was awful: very choppy like 5 FPS max, even on a basic 1080p@60 YT video. Combining this with the extension to use h264 which is very basic didn't solve the choppiness which was very shocking.

With Firefox I have none of the problem, I let the hardware acceleration on and the video plays on the CPU decoder which makes my laptop silent as expected.

What is wrong with Chrome's video decoding process? Is there a way to resolve it?

From my understanding I am supposed to receive a letter with the informations and instructions to vote for my district's parliament before the end of August. However I haven't received anything yet about that.

Did you receive it? Are you also an EU citizen?

My company happens to be using Airbyte OSS for data extraction and loading. Recently I have been testing the new versions of the connectors which have been completely re-written in Kotlin. I don't know how the QA process is handled by their team and contributors but the results are terrible.

For example the Redshift destination connector now transforms the source's empty strings values as NULL values, and the Postgres source connector started to complain about missing cursor values when using Xmin for incremental loading, which doesn't require cursor to be set.

Hopefully we'll try to move away from this tool and replace it soon in my company. But I'm shocked that these bugs managed to pass tests and are sometimes still present after a couple minor updates.

I'd like to work remotely from there in late August or September and ideally I'd like the accomodation to be cosy and/or have a proper desk and chair to work from.

I went to Edeka this evening in my city and I brought with me a shopping bag from Edeka. Usually I use the provided shopping baskets but they don't handle heavy things very well and I was about to buy heavy items so I direct put things in my Edeka bag. Then when I went to the cashier and emptied everything and showed my empty bag to the employee. While scanning my items the cashier employee got mad at me saying that I am not allowed to use my bag like this and if I do it again they would ban me.

I know that in Germany some grocery shops forbid backpacks to reduce the risk of stealing, which I found very annoying when I want to go grocery on my way back from work. But here I don't get the point of using a custom bag, especially if I show it empty at the cashier.

What's the point? Why are being so annoying?

I made a post some time ago about the terrible performance of the GitHub Actions scheduler in which I explained that a 15mn scheduled workflow would run only every 30 to 120 minutes instead because of GitHub's scheduler limitations and "best effort".

I checked last week runs for the same workflow and now it runs every 2h to 5h instead of 15 minutes. No incident or news from GitHub side about what made this brutal change in performance yet.

Hopefully we'll move to another platform for this workflow now that performance have gotten so bad.

Every time I came across a video from one of the events of BCCO it's always full of this fashion/tiktok dancers and posers, more than in any other event I see content about. They often have great artists and DJs but the vibe feels so off and sometimes even cringe because of this crowd. None of them seem to care about the music but more about showing off their outfit and exposing main character syndrome.

Any particular reason why are there a lot of these people specifically at BCCO events ?

I'm not the only one seeing things this way, their Instagram posts are full of comments complaining about the crowd and vibe.

Does anyone have Discord sending multiple times the same message on android? Sometimes minutes to hours apart from the original message. It seems more frequent when the message has an image attached.

I work for a company in Berlin and last week with the heatwave it was above 30°C in my company's office and at home, despite closing windows early in the morning. My company's office has no A/C nor ventilation (despite being a new office) so I decided to work from home the full week as I have a fan at home, but still the temperature was 29°C in my flat and barely bearable to focus on work. I tried shifting my work time to 06:00-15:00 but I ended up doing overtime because of coworkers requests in the afternoon.

With this heat what are my company's responsibilities toward employees? Do they have obligations to take measures against the heat (e.g. installing portable A/C or fans) for our health and security?

The only thing they do so far is having free cold soft drinks paid by the company, and ice cream bought by employees in the office, which is not enough in my opinion. Also having the possibility to work from home is nice but when the home is as warm as the office it's not a real solution either. For different reasons I cannot have an A/C at home, even the monobloc ones.

It's still crazy to me that despite knowing there will be increasingly more heatwave in the future, the BVG ordered new train stock without A/C or basic ventilation. Especially for the small profile lines which are having many outdoor sections where dissipation of warm air isn't an issue.

Paris metro, despite many tunnel-only lines, still has managed to deploy trains with refrigerated ventilation which enables a difference of 3-5°C with outside and provides much more comfort.

Was it by a lack of budget or ignorance of the climate change that they didn't include such feature on new train stocks ?

I have created an Apple ID account many years ago (~10-15 years) with my personal email address. I didn't use that account since then and today I tried to connect to that account again but Apple says my account is locked and going through the unlocking steps in their documentation always brings me back to the message "your account is locked".

I tried creating a new one by adding an alias "+appleid" to my personal email but Apple doesn't allow it.

I don't have any other email address to use and my personal one is not available because tied to this locked account.

​

What should I do ? I don't wanna create a new email account just for this.

I saw a post from some years ago but have things evolved since then ?
