Is there anything you can actually learn from stock market movies?

I am talking about movies like the wolf of wall street, then the big short, then wall street. I mean.. are they completely off about the history of the stock market/wall street, and the financial crisis, manipulation etc? and is it purely made up drama? Or can you actually learn something from them, something at least. I am someone who lacks a lot of context about this whole finance world. [ I do try and read and research alongside ]

I know it's VERY dramatized but it can't be completely false right? like obviously they are based on true events and at least you get to see how things got to the current stage and maybe some of the stuff is still applicable, just in different ways. Or are they a waste of time completely and over exaggerated and just reading the actual history itself better.

The reason I want to know more about the finance history is as I said, I completely clueless about the market crashes, the bubbles that burst, the things that have happened, possibly they could help me see patterns in the future.

So.. when is the right time to invest? Even if it is "ETFS"

Even if you are investing in ETFs.. when is the right time to invest in them? Suppose you have a "hundred thousand dollars" should i just dump all of them into EFTs at whatever time, even if the S&P 500 is at an all time high? or should wait for a crash or should do it gradually over time? or maybe wait for just a dip? With the general plan being to hold for 5-10 years. Not quick cash.

Dear investors can you please give me a concrete portfolio that is "actually diversified"?

Every diverse portfolio I came up with people talk about overlap and how it's still concentrated. Then please give me a set of ETFs that are diversified, so I know what it looks like a concrete good diversified example that I can apply myself.

Diversification! Diversification! Diversification!

So after putting about 25 hour studying long term investments, as a complete beginner. There is one thing that keeps popping up like crazy, "diversification". The moment I get excited about a single stock, is the moment the history of the stock market reminds of how brutally unpredictable the future can be, and then it all pivots back to ETFS.. and guess what from there it's.... "diversification".

Now my question is, I see a lot of people's portfolio being mocked by others as to how much "overlap" there is between there ETFs, and they go on about how it's a "false diversification".

Have a look at this video by humphrey where he recommends 4 ETFs, "VTI, SCHD, VOO, QQQ", and the please proceed to check the comments.

So if all of this is false diversification, then A) what even is "diversification"? b) What does an actual diversified portfolio even look like? and what makes it actually diversified?

Thank you 🙏

So when pickings stocks, what metrics, measurements and numbers do you study?

So suppose I want pick a stock right? An idiot like me would probably just see an upward trend for a single day and sell his house and invest everything in that but obviously that's not the smartest approach. ( I am being a little humorous, please don't punish me )

So what do you look into? where to start? like the company's revenue? dept? past performance? history? what statistics? how do I study a company? I mean, I want the math, the real math and sciences. ( which of course, I know doesn't still guarantee you anything but is a wiser approach nonetheless )

Also, if you have any book recommendations or video recommendation that approach this topic, that would also be incredibly appreciated.

I want to do 80% S&P 500 and 20% NVidia

I bullish because I think AI is the future at least for next 5 more years before a crash, tell me why I am wrong. Or why I am possibly right.

Out of all the books that are available in the market right now about investing, if you could recommend only and only ONE! which book would that be and why?

Within the community there are lot of great book recommendations, and honestly for people who may have disabilities, kids, other responsibilities, or doing 3 jobs. It's not incredibly possible to read each one of them and actually comprehend them all as well. So if you were to suggest one book that they could actually not only read but understand really well word by word. Which would also make the most amount of impact in their financial investing life. What book would you suggest?

How do you even begin to educate yourself with all these scams and people trying to rip you off?

I mean like seriously? where do I begin? What book do I read? Do you have any idea the amount of terminologies involved? Like you have S&P 500 but then there are different ways of getting to it, either mutual funds or through a company like vanguard through "VOO" ticker symbols damn! Not done yet, you need broker, and then come taxes. But that's not the end of the story people say well just invest in EFTs, I mean it's not that simple, you got EFTs that are index funds like S&P 500 but also ones that are NOT index funds. I mean yes they are still shares, containers of different stocks (EFTS) but can also NOT be index funds, meaning not having a structure, measurement and ruleset like S&P 500. Therefore, risker than an index fund.

Then there is the concept of compounding and aw people who tell you to buy their course and youtubers who push you into trading! I mean.. come on give us a break, no wonder nobody wants to invest, it's SCARY! all these terms are scary, the people in the industry are scary, I mean most people who invest their money look at those who don't invest like they are garbage, like beneath them, like they themselves are some mastermind holier than thoe, GOD of brilliance, who has all the foresight in the world and can predict the future in a split second. Jesus Christ, you are just another guy who put money into stocks, like a bagillion other people.

For the humble people out there, who are kind and share knowledge about this concept made so complex by people, I am sorry for the vent and thank you for your kindness. My question, where does someone who has absolutely no clue, about investment, where do they begin? A book? a youtube channel? chatgpt? a website? could you please give me a reliable roadmap. Thank you again, and I am sorry for the vent, I need to go to sleep now, hopefully I don't wake up to curses.

Guys, what is that "magical" thing that has helped you?

In every sub there is always that "Thing" that has helped "certain" people, maybe a few things, could be a supplement, a form of diet, something that is very popular. Has magically helped, marginally helped some, hasn't helped some people at all. What is that thing when it comes to constipation?

I actually have had IBS, diarrhea was something that I usually dealt with. I use to take Imodium lol almost every other day and antidepressant withdrawal (mirtazipine) fked me up. Now i have a mix of both. my stool isn't hard but good luck to me getting something out in the bathroom, i get this urgent stool signals but only for a drop.

Right now, i am clueless, all my life i have known how to deal with diarrhea. Aw and are the cramps normal? Jesus christ they are so fking bad, I did go to a doctor, gastro specialist. All I was given was librax, which helps with the cramps. My current diet is.

  1. no processed foods
  2. boiled chicken (1 cup a day)
  3. rice (500g a day)
  4. a form of vegetable like okra (250 - 500g a day)
  5. a fruit, banana or mango or what I can tolerate
  6. 4 tablespoons of husk a day

um... I don't really know anymore you know? but yes the question is, that "thing" what is that thing in the constipation world that has helped a lot of people other than husk.

I beg you please tell me how did you heal your gut after Mirtazipine fked it up?

(FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FOR THOSE WHO LOVE THIS PILL LEAVE ME ALONE, AND PLEASE DON'T DM AND CURSE ME, LET ME SEEK HELP)

I have constipation and diarrhea both! cramps! sleep is fked! all this as I was tapering from 45mg to 7.5mg, I did this over the course of 3 years and then then BAM! it hit me so hard. I really feel like there are somethings in life that are worse than death, this is one of them. the hopelessness that comes with it.. jesus christ almighty.. only he can understand the individual going through it. I don't know how to even live my life. Currently I have to take lorazepam and librax, I take a bland diet, chicken, a type of non starchy vegetable like okra, and rice, husk twice a day. (everything is boiled and no spices) I have slowly introduced fruits, banana and mango, yogurt. I don't eat anything processed or I am screwed. If not for librax, you will hear me moaning in pain if you were my neighbor.

Yes, I went to a gastro specialist. He is the best doctor I know, but.. all he could do is give me librax and tell me to keep taking husk, there isn't much he can do, IBS itself is a mystery in the gastro world. yes I do have IBS, but jesus christ nothing like this in the 30 years I have lived on this planet!!

I get these urgent stools and when i go to the bathroom, i have to sit only for a drop to come out, I am sorry for the visualization you are probably having as you read this but, sleep is also fked. The reason my sleep is fked is because of my gut! I can't keep taking lopez and librax, they are expensive to get and also not a solution. It has been 3 months now that I am like this.. Yes I tried increasing Mirtazipine to 30mg, made things very worse, after sometime, I tried 15mg, worse!, tried increase it to 11mg, WORSE! almost killed me.

I take melatonin, magnesium for sleep. Already on probiotics. I mean.. I just wanna do good to the people I care about, I want nothing to do with this world beyond that, nothing fancy no, no thank you, no women, no cars, no nothing, that's it, I just wanna do good to other people. I know that's too much to ask for in this cursed world we live in but fk it.. if you have any advice or even share something similar just drop a comment at least it will ease my pain knowing I am not alone.

Like what do i do? I tried everything.. how much more time do i give it? I am never increasing the dose again because it makes things SO MUCH MORE WORSE! almost kills me. I have been on this drug for a total of 10 years now.

I am off of coffee been 20 days, honestly. I don't see myself drinking that stuff again. but.. i have started smoking.. yeah I know.. take it easy on me.. okay? and umm yeah eating junk food.. these two things have popped out of nowhere, now let me tell you quitting smoking is super easy but for some reason I still find myself smoking 3 a week (tiny ones). it's um.. I don't know.. what do i do? I am not going back to coffee because I love the way my nerves feel without it, I won't trade this for anything but.. I don't wanna get fat and start smoking either... I know I know, this boils down to discipline there are other variables at play in my life like benzos, and Mirtazipine. But give me a couple of advices without telling I am garbage? Thank you.

Maybe a form exercise? a form meditation? a supplement? diet? whatever comes to mind something.. this post is me kinda venting also, so yeah.. it's both a question and a vent

Hello everyone, so on every sub, there are a few magical things that have worked for "some" people. Maybe a supplement, maybe a juice, maybe a food, maybe something completely unknown but there are usually a couple of things most talked about. Which have worked incredibly for some people. So can you tell me what is that "thing" that has helped you?

I have a burning sensation in my stomach, diagnosed with gastristis but i also have an ulcer. Not sure how that works.
