Stayed out for a couple hours today, picked up two bags of trash and three bags of recyclables!
Hi all! I’m new here!
I cleaned up two full bags of trash from my local park today and rinsed and prepared all of these items for recycling!
My husband and I started doing trash pick ups kind of sporadically and today I went out by myself. I want to make it a regular habit.
Any tips for clean ups welcome and of course please pile on the encouragement, I really really want to keep this up!
Bought some jungle Val from an aquarium shop and found a little hitchhiker. Can anyone help with an ID? Will it reproduce like crazy or is it safe to add to my tank? Thanks!
How long does it usually take to get an orientation date and training schedule for management positions? Edit: I’m in the SWPA region
I’ve never had to go through all of the clearances for any other position I’ve been in so this is totally unfamiliar territory for me.
It’s been 17 days since I got the offer letter. I just got the results of the final clearance yesterday. I know my region is opening a new store this Saturday so I’m not sure if I should expect anything this week. How long does it usually take after clearances to get a training schedule?
I’ve been refreshing my inbox constantly to make sure I haven’t missed anything! The waiting and not knowing is brutal. Any input is appreciated, thank you!
Just my little 11 year old baby in our clothes and towels fresh out of the dryer ❤️
I’ve never been through this before. I just want to have all my ducks in a row. I can’t imagine a scenario where I don’t win, but I’m unfamiliar with the format so if anyone has input that would be helpful.
My previous employer has submitted 4 text exchange screen shots that are conveniently cropped to omit context. Thankfully I’ve already uploaded the full conversation to show context which negates any inclination of willful misconduct. I mean even the cropped messages are a stretch.
I also have a former coworker writing a letter on my behalf. How much or how little documentation should I include? Because there’s a lot I could submit! But I don’t want to go overboard.
Also, he’s requesting a phone hearing (because he’s a coward) what is the format of the hearing? I understand it’s a referee from the UC office, not a judge. But do I prepare a statement? Should I upload a rebuttal to the statement he provided? How does this work?
Thank you for any assistance!
This is our main living area, bedrooms not pictured. I didn’t tidy it up too much for you guys.
I’m so excited to read your thoughts :)
Got a two pack of zucchini from Aldi yesterday and it had this weird gel/jelly sort of thing attached to it. It took a little effort to get off. Kind of booger-y.
I thought maybe the insides came out a little bit and it hardened in the air? What do you think?
We took this guy to the ER yesterday because I noticed his right eye got really cloudy all of a sudden and he kept pawing at it but wouldn’t open either eye like at all.
I was worried it was glaucoma but the doctor said he had corneal ulcers in *both* of his eyes, but the right eye was much worse. He’s had noticeable corneal lipidosis for about a year, it never bothered him but I think this maybe made him more susceptible to damage.
He experiences allergies too so I noticed his eyes were a little extra runny a few days prior but we just happened to be in a cabin in the woods, I thought it was just allergies. (Yes, I’m feeling guilty I didn’t catch this sooner)
Anyway, we’re on antibiotic drops and pain meds and muscle relaxer drops for his eyes. He’s in the cone. But I’m so nervous. He’s still pretty lethargic, I mean yesterday was a big day and he’s not sleeping too well with the cone. He’s eating and drinking like normal today which is promising, but he’s just keeping his eyes closed mostly.
Has anyone had experience with this healing process? The doctor referred us to an ophthalmologist but our ER visit was $1000 and I’m wondering if I should just run the course of the meds and see how he does before I jump into specialized treatment.
He’s almost 11. I’m worried permanent damage was done, I can see the scratch on the right eye it’s deep, it’s gross. But he puts his stupid head into every bush or branch that some other dog has peed on its not surprising at all… anyway if anyone has experience with the healing process or if this uncovered some underlying issue? We did get a full blood panel and they didn’t see anything out of the ordinary if that’s worth anything
Thanks everyone
I’ve applied for employment here after spending a long time working for a corporate grocery store. I haven’t been a frequent shopper because it’s a little out of the way so I’m curious to know how the community feels about the co-op.
I know the workers are unionized but I would be in a supervisor role and I understand supervisors at the co-op would not be in the union. And I’ve heard the union members can be tough on management simply because of the title, even if we’re an ally.
My other option for employment is with a large retail chain in the area and while I have reservations about policing productivity metrics and pushing sales (plus the wage is much lower) I’m not worried about being ostracized there because of my title…
The wages and benefits at the co-op are unmatched but I wonder how you folks feel about shopping there.
Thanks for your input
Hi everyone! I am interviewing tomorrow for the Assistant Store Manager position!
I’m very excited about this prospect. I’ve been in customer service my entire life, I spent nearly 6 years as a supervisor at a grocery store, and currently work as a retail manager, but don’t have what I would consider sufficient knowledge scheduling or disciplinary action. I was very middle management.
I know everyone has to start somewhere. But I’m nervous. What can you tell me about the position and what I can do to succeed! Thank you!!
I’ve been working for a small retail business for roughly 90 days. I was hired as “the manager”. It was a situation where the owner stepped back and sort of let things go and ever since has been a scramble to get things in operational shape again.
I’ve been building systems like inventory and SKU catalogs, expense reporting, shrink/loss reporting, training systems etc. and even started doing graphic design work and social media content.
It’s been a battle with the owner the whole time. He does not want to let go of control. It doesn’t seem like he has any interest in what I’m doing to help his business. And whenever I try to explain something I’m implementing or why we should, I don’t know, label things correctly and stay consistent with our language, he gets offended. It’s rough. And I often walk away feeling like I shouldn’t have said what I said?
I keep going back and forth between “I need to quit” and “I like my schedule, this is manageable” but today really hit me.
We have a 48 hour prep time allowance on our online ordering platform. I am currently training a new employee to whom I explained the 48 hour window. We got a notification AN HOUR BEFORE CLOSE that we had an order due at 10am TOMORROW.
I said, “this can’t be right” and my boss said “oh yea I changed that since I’m here now” (he has been on three vacations since I started) and I said “that would have been good to know” and he threw a strait up tantrum in front of our new employee.
He said “I just changed it today, {MY NAME}!” I said “it’s ok” he said “is it?! Is it ok?! Because I’m getting a lot of attitude from you and I don’t like it!!”
I said “ok do you want to go talk about it” and tried to lead him off the floor and he said “NO! I don’t!”
And my blood was boiling. And I don’t know how much longer I can deal with this. But I’m like, gaslighting myself wondering if it’s me? Was I out of line? I can’t even get into all of the other shit that’s been building up here. I mean it’s a full on values mismatch and I feel like I’m being judgmental of him but also he’s a terrible leader… and disrespectful. And classist. And tone deaf. And condescending. Etc etc etc
I think it’s time to start looking.

I work for a small retail/event business. I am the only full time employee. (I won’t get into the problems with that right now)
I basically do most of the operations work, like inventory and loss reporting, and keep the shop open five days a week. Train new employees and manage the younger ones, manage customer orders, keep the calendar, etc.
My boss likes to have control over most things but he’s not the best at some of it. Like he’s very good at curating our product and setting up the store and he’s super handy and creative. But he’s not great with, for example, social media.
I’ve been working on some Instagram post designs which are, I think, pretty darn good. We’re about to be on DoorDash so I made a “DoorDash launch” carousel. I take my own photos and edit them in Canva. I’ve been researching social media marketing and I think I kinda have a knack for it.
But I’m so scared to ask my boss to let me take over or at least let me post periodically. He doesn’t post at all and when he does it’s like a photo dump in the story with PowerPoint style fades and dated music. But I really think he’s not going to want to let go of control here and I don’t know how to tell him it would be in our best interest.
We have a competitor in the area who is getting much better at their social media game and I really think we need to catch up.
We do event installations (balloons) and he consistently forgets to take photos of the installs. However my approach was to let him stay in charge of the installs and balloon art posts and I would highlight the retail space. But I’m just so afraid to even bring it up because I don’t know how to a) say it in a way that doesn’t sound insulting and b) handle the rejection if he says no.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks 😊
I just posted yesterday I’m very new to this practice. I’m searching for a way to remove hatred, judgement and anger in my life. I’m drawn to Buddhism but know little about it.
I’m planning to attend a guided meditation at a Buddhist center in my city tomorrow night.
But this morning I am reading Loving-Kindness in Plain English: the practice of Metta by Bhante Gunaratana. I’m reading Chapter 7: A Mother’s Love. The author speaks about how a mother instantly “feels an outpouring of love” for the child in her womb, how her love is unconditional and how she can feel happy for her child when they are successful.
When I read this I feel resentment because that’s not the experience I had with my mother. I gather that Metta practice should help to remove that resentment.
What else would the Buddha say about these feelings? “Justified” anger is a feeling I cling to for longer than I want to. I want to be able to let it all go. Thank you.
I have been having a rough time lately. Going through a pretty big transition period and ruminating on some mistakes. I have trouble with emotional regulation.
I’m in therapy. And I just started medication. But I just had a slap-in-the-face moment, challenging my beliefs about my growth journey and I realize I need to be doing more to be a better human.
I just picked up Loving-Kindness in Plain English: The Practice of Metta by Henepola Gunaratana. I’m going to start a daily metta meditation practice. But I’ve never read any of the main texts. I don’t know much more than what I’m learning in this book.
What should a Buddhist beginner know? Or what are some good resources?
I plug in my hair straightener and let it warm up. Then I forget about it and my husband unplugs it.
I plug in my phone to let it charge. Then I forget about it and my husband unplugs it and brings it to me because my mom is texting me.
I plug in the crock pot and turn it on. But nothing is in it because I forgot the chicken so I have to go back to the store. So my husband unplugs it for me.
I’m so lucky.
I work for a small local retail and balloon business. My boss’s husband makes a significant salary (like top 10% of earners in the city where I live) and this business is just something to keep him busy.
There were a lot of red flags in my interview but I think I jumped on it impulsively because a) I had just left a long term stable job to pursue a career with a grass roots non-profit b) three months later that position was eliminated c) I was curious and desperate!
He sells cute home goods and was talking about buying a nice soap dispenser for your home and I said something like “yea it’s nice to treat yourself to something just for you” and he said “like if you have a bottle of Dial soap on your counter you should be ashamed” and I said “welllllll….”
I mean… right off the bat, shaming people who either can’t afford or don’t see value in a fancy soap dispenser. I was just excited to work in a creative field because mostly, we do balloon art!
Well he spent the following three weeks complaining about having to pay his employees. Complaining that his previous employees “always wanted more money”. He told me there was a “mutiny” when three of his previous employees were talking about their wages (which I later informed him is a protected right under the NLRA) he also admitted to FIRING ONE OF THEM FOR TALKING ABOUT THEIR WAGES - which I informed him is ILLEGAL under the NLRA!!
He’s also super self deprecating, constantly saying his handwriting “looks like a serial killer” I mean constantly over and over it’s so uncomfortable. He won’t eat anything with sugar and if he does he won’t fucking shut up about it “I’m so weak!” Fucking over and over.
Red flags mounting.
Turns out his previous manager, whom I was to be replacing, quit the morning of my interview. And he blames her for all of the chaos that the business was left with. But for several years, he was barely there. She was like, the only employee, and he let the business go. But he blames her.
He also won’t stop talking about a previous employee who worked for him and then went on to open her own competing business. Like, he talks about her in interviews, too. He also thinks every customer who walks in is stealing. Which he tells people during interviews.
The first few weeks were great. I was just doing balloons and we were busy so I had little down time plus I have ADHD so if I loved the pace and the creativity.
But then things started to unfold. And the responsibilities began to mount. And I started to realize this man has no idea how to run a business like it is purely run on vibes.
There’s no budget. There’s no loss tracking. No expense tracking, period. No inventory system. No employment agreement. No benefits. No set order dates. Everything is vibes and impulse. It’s so damaging to my mental health.
And then shit hit the fan when he sent me to “manage” an event on Saturday.
It was a $4000 balloon installation he was working on with a prominent party planner. Then he decided to take a vacation!!! Over the day of her event!!!! And sent me!!! Completely untrained, inexperienced, I mean I’ve literally never done this before in my life. Actually threw me strait to the wolves.
He provided some static instructions - do this first, go here, put this here - but no training on a dynamic situation that is putting together an event.
And of course something goes wrong!! And I’m trying to keep it professional without - oh yea!!! I’m not supposed to tell the party planner he’s on vacation! But eventually, I fucking had to, I had no answers for her. And he thinks I handled it poorly!!!
He never even checked in about it. No apology. In fact the only thing he apologized for was that he had to pay me to be there!!!!
This dude’s three car payments exceed the amount my husband and I make in a month. I mean this guy has no idea what it is to be a normal person but he tries to relate to me as if he has any idea what it means for a family in my tax bracket to budget for a three day vacation. I mean, he left their hotel search up on the work computer, they were staying at a resort in Vancouver for $2000 A NIGHT. Like, bitch, don’t pretend like you have a fucking clue.
Not that it would matter. Because even if I wanted to take a day off, I’m the only employee! I asked for a day off once because he had an 18 year old coming in to work and I said “hey since you have the shop covered, I really didn’t sleep well, can I take the day?” And he said “I really need you to be there, she can’t be by herself, my family is in town I really can’t be there blah blah blah….”
I don’t even know where I’m going I’m just fucking ranting. This dude sucks. Has zero leadership skills takes no responsibility for the business. I’m actively trying to leave just haven’t gotten any bites yet. In the meantime I’m dying and I can’t stand being around this person.
He told me he would bring in a coffee machine and I was like YAY. So he brought some fancy pour over bullshit like… bro I don’t have time for this. I just want to push a button and have coffee. I can’t even have poor people coffee. Please put me out of my misery.
Just started working for a balloon artist as a creative assistant about three weeks ago. I’m just learning how to do garlands and other installations. I really enjoy it and hope to get better so I’m practicing at home :)
