Flock cameras being used to cite drivers and generate money
Flock Safety CEO Garrett Langley is defending the company’s automated surveillance cameras as communities across the United States push back over privacy concerns, according to IBTimes UK.
Flock Safety operates automated license plate recognition systems that capture license plates and vehicle characteristics, allowing law enforcement to search for vehicles potentially connected to criminal investigations.
Langley compared banning the technology to banning vehicles, arguing that governments should regulate how surveillance systems are used rather than prohibit them entirely. He said the issue requires a balance between public safety and privacy.
The comparison has drawn criticism from privacy advocates, who argue that Flock cameras can systematically record vehicle movements in public spaces, including streets, intersections, parks and parking facilities.
The scale of the network is significant. Flock's cameras enable law enforcement agencies to conduct about 20 billion license plate scans every month, according to The Guardian.
The company has introduced additional safeguards following reports of police officers allegedly misusing the system to track romantic partners, former partners and other individuals. Flock has also announced shorter data-retention periods, auditing tools and automated alerts for unusual searches.
For businesses and governments adopting AI surveillance technology, the debate highlights a broader challenge: security systems can provide valuable investigative capabilities while also creating large databases of sensitive location information.
As AI-powered surveillance expands, the question is increasingly about who can access the data, how long it is retained and what safeguards prevent misuse.
Flock CEO Garrett Langley on nationwide backlash: “I value my privacy… but what we're talking about is safety as well. And so I think when people talk about just one of these, privacy or safety, they're prioritizing the wrong thing, and what we have to prioritize as a country is compromise.”

Georgie is the best Christian on the show.
Although Mary talks a good game and she tries to be a good Christian, Georgie is actually the better example of it. In the episode “ A Broken Heart and a Crock Monster “, Georgie displays real Christianity. He listens to the Pastor and commensurates with him over his problems, he empathize with him, he even offers his room for the night. And on top of that, he shows up at church to “support my pal” on Sunday. For all of Georgie‘s foibles and mistakes, he’s actually the one with the best heart on the show.
