Should I transcode movie files that are in a XF-AVC codec?

I am working on a project. One shooter uses a Canon camera, and when I import the footage, the codec is XFGA. It works fine in Final Cut....and I'll be doing project editing in Final Cut....but I can't open any of these files with something like VLC. When I try to open in VLC, I get told "VLC could not decode the format "xfga."

Should I just edit as is, using the files FCP X created when importing? I dont see why not....but I've also never worked with this codec before or not been able to open something in VLC, so perhaps down the line this might be a problem.

Any advice?

Anyone wanna buy a Tern Storm Shield?

I bought a Tern Storm Shield a few months ago. But only after buying it did I realize it's not what I actually needed for my bike, so it's been in the package it came in, completely unopened.

Anyone interested in buying? I'll sell it for 255 (cost me 285). Shoot me a message if so!

Anyone here attach a Tern Storm Shield and Clubhouse Mini to their Aventon Abound 2? I got questions!

I use my bike to take the kids around and I wanna be able to use it in rain. I have an Abound 2, and I know one cna buy the Term Shield and Clubhouse Mini and 3d print some additional fasteners.

If you did this, a few question:

1 - Is it east to take either the Storm Shield or Clubhouse Mini on and off? Or would I want to keep them on?

2 - How does the Clubhouse Mini impact child comfort?

3 - Anything else I should know about doing this?

I wanna make sure this is a good idea before dropping a few hundred on this.

Thanks!

Should I get the LPII for my spouse now or wait for LPIII?

My spouse really wants to get a non-smart phone. We've decided Light Phone is the right option.

I'm torn between ordering a LPIII and just buying a LPII. The advantage of the older phone is I can get it quicker and there's no kinks to work out. The LPIII seems great but I worry both how long it'll take to actually get and what snafus might exist that need to be fixed for an early model of the phone.

Any thoughts? If I get the LPII, should I just buy new of the website or is the kind of thing a good used is reliable?

A crazy driver recklessly drove through a bunch of wheelie kids on the Grays Ferry Bridge, then minutes later shot and killed one of them and wounded another. A friend shot this video with their kid on the back of their bike.

Driving culture in Philly is out of control.

I'm a performer coming to the Old Greeny Fest with a show I think some people will like - Circumscribed: A True Tall Tale of One Father, Two Sons, and Thousands of Foreskins. It's a true life comedy storytelling show about growing up with a father who was a mohel (Jewish ritual circumciser) who buried foreskins at home, failed efforts at finding paternal figures after my Dad's untimely death, and wrestling with circumcising my own kid. Weaving together family video, pictures, and audio recordings, this comedic storytelling is a perfect show about the loveable eccentrics we call family.

It won the Audience Choice Award at the 2025 NYC Fringe and it has gotten great reviews like this one: fringereview.co.uk/review/rochester-fringe-festival/2025/circumscribed-a-true-tall-tale-of-one-father-two-sons-and-thousands-of-foreskins/

There are shows this Thursday and Friday. Come on out!

Saw this and ruminated on my kid in K using a Chromebook for Zoom school on snow days. And I fear a poor school district is an easy mark for a tech company's largesse.

Is there any sort of movement in Philly I don't know if to oppose more tech in the schools?

I wanna watch a whole game with Russell just to get a sense of his greatness. So two questions:

1 - Where can I try to watch a whole game?
2 - If I was going to choose one game to watch, what should I choose? (I realize I will probably not have a lot of options to choose from)

We just redid our backyard and the wee ones are having a great time playing in the back. So now I need two things and would love advice:

1 - The balls keeps going into our neighbors yard. I figure there must be a way to put up a mesh screen that I can on and off and it connects to the fence. I also think there's prob a good DIY solution here. Thoughts? Photos of fence here and here.

2 - I wanna get a basketball hoop for the railing, kind of like the thing you'd attach to the top of a door but obviously that wont work here. Advice? Photo of railing here

I want a projector I can bring to different rooms in the house and our backyard. Someone local is selling a perfectly good NEC ME331W for 30 bucks. This seems a good deal. Am I right?

I bought this hard drive for data backup. I want to get a good hard case for it since I sometimes move it from home to the office, and the plastic housing feels so flimsy.

What's a good case for this model?

I transferred my i401k to Schwab. For the next ten years or so, I am going to leave it in two funds. I have it in SWTSX (total US market) and SWISX (total international).

That said, reading last week, I saw someone say SCHF is better than SWISX because of the peculiar way that fund conceives of its international fund e.g. it doesn't have Canada or South Korea. I can also see that SCHF over time performs better.

My thinking is later this year, so it's not considered a short term trade, to move my stuff from SWISX to SCHF.

Is there any reason to not do this? It seems to make sense to me.

I moved back to Philly 3 years ago. On the whole pretty happy with returning (traffic safety notwithstanding).

One thing though that really freaks me out is air quality. I mean, I've been thinking about this even before last week's report on Philly getting a F from the America Lung Association. I care less about me, and more my two young kids and I just get in my head, "Is it crazy to raise them in a place where asthma is distinctly more likely than other places?" (FWIW, we do run air filters most of the year in the house.)

Anyone else ever go down this rabbit hole?
