[Self Promo] I made an RTS for mobile using Flutter + Flame

Hey everyone!

I’m an indie developer and I’ve been working on my own mobile RTS called Battle of Folks.

It’s an isometric wave-defense RTS for iOS and Android, inspired by games like They Are Billions, Age of Darkness and, especially, The Battle for Middle-earth.

The idea is to bring some of that classic RTS feeling to mobile without making the controls unnecessarily complicated. You basically have the option to customise the controls however you like.

You build and upgrade your base, manage your resources, command your units, research upgrades, level up your heroes and defend against increasingly dangerous enemy waves.

There are also hero abilities, different unit types, walls and defensive structures, a food system, day/night cycles and various environmental effects.

And I recently gave the game a major visual and gameplay overhaul.

The new lighting, shadows, weather and effects especially changed how the game looks and feels compared to the earlier version.

I have also incorporated a dynamic road-building system so that paths form between buildings after a short while. Similar to Age of Empires 4

The entire game is built with Flutter and the Flame engine, which was also a big part of the challenge for me. I am a flutter developer for almost 5 years. I wanted to see how far I could push Flutter for a real-time strategy game rather than building another typical mobile app. It is and it was hard. Especially when it comes to performance, but I reckon I’ve managed to polish it up nicely.

I’m still actively working on it and improving it based on feedback.

Battle of Folks is available on iOS and Android.

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/aufbau-rts-battle-of-folks/id6788747336

I’ve attached some screenshots showing the current version.

If you’re into RTS games, I’d really love to hear what you think. And I’m especially interested in feedback from people who play RTS games on mobile.

Note:
I used AI for a few assets and some parts of the UI. This saved me an enormous amount of time, so I didn’t have to create everything myself. However, there were also plenty of things that AI couldn’t do for me, so I had to create those myself – but that’s no problem for me, as I’ve been drawing and painting (mainly manga) since I was 13.

I’ve created an RTS mobile game and, thanks to AI, was able to work more than three times as fast

I’ve been working on my own RTS mobile game, Battle of Folks, and AI has had a much bigger impact on my development speed than I expected.

First to the Game Battle of Folks. Its an RTS mobile game where you fight against ever-growing waves of enemies, but you have to keep expanding to keep up. It’s quite similar to 'Age of Darkness' or 'They Are Billions'.
A few things I focused on:

- No account or login required — just download and play

- Free to try with limited waves, one-time unlock for the full game (no subscriptions, no ads)

- Build with Flutter Flame

- Good controls on mobile device and a good onboarding (you can decide how you want to play)

I used AI for quite a few different parts of the game: creating assets, UI elements, animations, and, of course, coding. But it definitely wasn’t a case of just generating something and putting it straight into the game.

A lot of the generated assets needed to be cleaned up, adjusted, or completely redone because they either didn’t look right or had technical issues. The same goes for animations and UI. AI was more like a very fast starting point that I could iterate on.

I also used AI while programming. I have more than 5 years of professional programming experience, so I’m not relying on AI to write code that I don’t understand. It helped me get through a huge amount of boilerplate, solve problems faster, explore approaches, and handle tasks that would otherwise have taken significantly more time.

The same applies to the art. I’ve been drawing since I was around 12 (Manga), so I already have a pretty good understanding of composition, visual style, and what I want something to look like. AI allowed me to get much closer to the result I wanted in a fraction of the time.

Honestly, without AI, I don’t think I would have been able to make this game anywhere near as quickly. I’d estimate that my overall development speed was more than 3x faster.

And interestingly, I don’t necessarily think the final quality would have been dramatically worse without AI. Some things might have been better, some worse, and some probably about the same. The biggest difference is simply how much I can get done in a given amount of time.

For me, AI isn’t replacing the skills I already have. It’s removing a lot of the slow, repetitive parts and allowing me to spend more time actually making the game. So its more like a tool i like to use.

Worked 6 month on my RTS for iOS & Android

Hey everyone,

After a long stretch of solo development, Battle of Folks is finally out on iOS and Android!

It's a medieval isometric pixel-art wave-defense RTS — if you've played They Are Billions, Age of Darkness, that's the closest comparison. You build up defenses, manage resources, and hold off increasingly brutal waves of attackers.

A few things I focused on:

- No account or login required — just download and play

- Free to try with limited waves, one-time unlock for the full game (no subscriptions, no ads)

- Handmade isometric pixel art, built with Flutter/Flame

- Good controls on mobile device and a good onboarding (you can decide how you want to play)

This was a one-person project — dev, art pipeline, publishing, everything. Happy to answer questions about the build (tile rendering, Flame engine quirks, etc.) or the game itself.

App Store link / Play Store link

Would love your feedback — especially on balancing and the early waves difficulty curve!

I’m building a mobile RTS — and I’m looking for people to test it

Hey Guys, I’ve been working on Battle of Folks, a mobile RTS inspired by games like They Are Billions, Age of Darkness and, especially, The Battle for Middle-earth II (Big fan of it)

I’ve always been a huge RTS fan, but I’ve never really found a mobile RTS that gives me the feeling I’m looking for. So I decided to build one myself.

Battle of Folks is built around wave-based RTS gameplay:

⚔️ Build and expand your settlement

🏰 Build walls and defend your town

🧙 Recruit heroes with abilities and leveling

🛡️ Command different types of units

🌊 Survive increasingly difficult enemy waves

🎓 Build a University to research and upgrade your forces

🏹 Build defensive structures and towers

🍖 Manage resources like food to support your growing population

✨ And lots of animations and small details to make the world feel alive

One of my biggest goals is to make the controls actually work well on mobile.

Instead of simply taking PC RTS controls and putting them on a touchscreen, I’m trying to make the game easy to control, while still giving players enough freedom to play the way they want.

The onboarding also lets you customize the controls and interface so you can adapt the game to your own playstyle and device.

The game is being developed for iOS and Android, with phones and tablets in mind.

But now the big part ist testing. I’m looking for testers!

The game is at a point where I really need people to play it, break it, give me feedback and tell me what feels good — and, more importantly, what doesn't.

I’m especially interested in feedback about:

🎮 Controls and usability

📱 Playing on different phones and tablets

⚔️ Combat and enemy waves

🏗️ Building and progression

🧭 Onboarding

🐛 Bugs and performance issues

💡 Features that would make the game more fun

If you’d like to test Battle of Folks, feel free to DM me or join my Discord there you can also find android and iOS links. If you dont want to use Discord just DM me and i will send you the link for it.

I’m still actively developing the game, so this is definitely not a finished product — I want testers who are okay with playing an evolving game and giving honest feedback. You can give me the feedback over reddit or Discord

If you're a fan of RTS games and would like to help shape a mobile RTS from the ground up, I'd love to have you involved! ❤️

Mobile RTS: Battle of Folks update

Hey everyone!

I wanted to give you a quick update on the current development of my mobile RTS Battle of Folks.

The game has come a long way recently, and I've added quite a few new systems and features:

⚔️ Heroes
There is now a hero who can level up and has their own abilities that you can use during a battle.

🍖 Food System
Houses now require food, so you need to build farms and other food-producing buildings to support the growth of your settlement.

🏗️ Improved Building System
Building has been simplified and gives you more freedom in how you want to construct your base.

🌾 Animated Buildings
The windmill is now animated, making the settlement feel much more alive.

⚡ Tesla Tower
The Tesla Tower is now fully functional and shoots lightning at enemies. (Also animated)

🧙 New Enemy – The Witch
Starting from wave 4, you can encounter a witch that summons skeletons to attack your settlement.

🎓 University & Research
You can now build a university and research new technologies to improve your settlement and army.

🧱 Stone Walls
Walls can now be upgraded into stronger stone walls to give your defenses a better chance against later waves.

📱 Better Onboarding
The onboarding has also been completely improved. You can now customize the experience and choose how you want the app to work for you.

And that's still only part of what's been added. There are many more changes, improvements and new systems currently in development.

I'm building Battle of Folks as a mobile RTS inspired by games like They Are Billions, but designed specifically around mobile controls and shorter, more accessible sessions.

If you'd like to test the game on Android or iOS, feel free to send me a message.

I'm also looking for people who want to follow the development more closely. I've got a Discord server where I share more behind-the-scenes content, upcoming features, development progress, and where you can actually give feedback and discuss the game with me.

If you're interested in testing Battle of Folks or joining the Discord, just send me a message! ❤️

Mobile RTS is making progress

Hey everyone,

Wanted to give a quick update to my mobile RTS (wave Defence in the style of They Are Billions / Age of Darkness). The last few weeks have really progressed, especially thanks to the testers who got in touch with me - their feedback was worth gold.

What happened:

• More ways to display & build: You can now choose between different UI/construction styles, all modularly customisable. This is requested directly during onboarding, so that everyone gets the setup that suits them from the beginning.

• New elements: Additional wall types, catapults and mountains are now in play and new assets.

• Better maps: The seed generation has been revised - the maps now seem much less empty and more varied.

• Performance: Significantly noticeable improvements, now runs noticeably more smoothly.

It's really fun to see how the whole thing develops through real feedback. More will follow soon - please let me know what you think. If you feel like testing it, feel free to write then you get access. More feedback is even better

Looking for RTS fans to test an early mobile alpha (They Are Billions / Age of Darkness inspired)

Hey everyone,
I'm currently developing a mobile RTS inspired by They Are Billions and Age of Darkness. I've been a huge RTS fan for years – games like Age of Darkness: Final Stand, The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth, Age of Empires II, and many others were a big part of my gaming life. And I’m glad that the genre has been touched more often by developers lately, at least it feels that way.

I always wished there was a proper RTS experience on mobile that didn't require a Steam Deck or remote streaming, so I finally decided to build one myself.
Dont get me wrong as a Dad I love the steam deck but it’s still big and heavy.
Right now the game is in a very early alpha, and the biggest thing I need feedback on is the mobile controls:
- Unit selection
-Camera movement
-Building placement
-Combat readability
-General “does this feel good on a touchscreen?” feedback
I'm looking for a handful of RTS players who are willing to test an unfinished build and give honest feedback. The game is still rough, but that's exactly why early testing would help a lot.
If you're interested, leave a comment or send me a DM and I'll send you the test build when it's ready.
Thanks!

Found my Old Cards. What should I do?

Hey everyone,
I recently found my old Pokémon card collection and started going through it. It turns out I may have found a few gems, including a Mew Gold Star (101/101) and several holo rares from the Delta Species era.
As a kid, I never actually played with my cards—I only collected them. After opening packs, I always put the cards straight into protective sleeves, so they’re generally in very good condition.
I was curious what people think what I should do with These cards. There are like 30 more cards I’d appreciate any advice or opinions. Thanks!

What am I doing wrong with my app?

Hey everyone,

I launched my app, BabyJourney, back in March. The idea came to me after I became a father. I was looking for a good baby-tracking app, but most of the apps I found were either missing important features or were quite expensive. So I decided to build one myself.

With BabyJourney, parents can track sleep, diapers, feeding amounts, and much more. It also includes white noise, a leap calendar that explains upcoming developmental milestones, and several other features. A all in one app.

So far, I've tried promoting the app in a few online forums, but that only worked moderately well since most communities understandably don't like self-promotion. After that, I spent some time improving ASO and translated the app into multiple languages. That helped a little, but I'm still only getting around 2–4 downloads per day.

My question is: what would you do in my position? Are there any strategies that actually work for getting the first users? Is there something obvious that I might be missing? Or is it time to give up?

I'd really appreciate any advice or feedback from people who have launched apps before.

Thanks!

Vielen Dank schon mal!

Looking for honest testers & reviews for my baby tracking app – BabyJourney 👶📱

Hi everyone,

I’m an indie developer and also a dad of a little baby myself. I built an app called BabyJourney because I was tired of using multiple small apps for tracking my baby’s daily life.

BabyJourney combines everything in one place:

  • 🍼 Feeding tracker
  • 😴 Sleep tracking
  • ⏱️ Timers & routines
  • 🌙 White noise for better sleep
  • 📊 Simple overview of your baby’s daily patterns
  • And even more

As a parent, I designed it based on real daily needs during sleepless nights and chaotic routines. The goal was to make something simple, fast, and actually useful instead of juggling 3–5 different apps.

I would really appreciate it if some of you could test the app and leave honest feedback or a review. It would help me a lot to improve it further and make it more helpful for other parents.

iOS download:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/baby-journey-tracker-spr%C3%BCnge/id6760206771

If you try it, even short feedback like usability, missing features, or what feels confusing would be super valuable.

Thanks a lot in advance to anyone who takes the time 🙏
