Just watched The Outsiders - My GOD it's a whump goldmine!

I never had to read the book in school and somehow, despite loving all things from the 80s, never got around to watching the movie.

I was craving some good, cathartic whump yesterday and saw this movie on my list of whump movies to watch. Holy hell it did NOT disappoint! It had physical whump, emotional whump, severe injuries, death, fever fainting and delerium, and did I mention emotional whump? If I had read the book in school, I guarantee you that most of those tropes would have made their way into my shitty teenage fanfic.

I'm not one for Jou/Mai, but this episode really got me.

I remember watching this episode when it originally aired and being upset that they did that to my boy. Like...he's been though enough up to that point.

Didn't learn until much later that the implied Jou/Mai thing was an anime-only thing. I never cared for it (honestly it seemed kinda weird), but whatever.

Got to this episode today in my watchthrough and just... Ouch. Mai finally realizing that her loneliness wasn't Jou's fault, realizing that he's one of the few people in her life that's actually cared about her and regretting everything she had done to him. Then seeing him just slumped against the fence... I don't know. It just hit me in a way. Watching it at 17, barely phased me outside of "leavebrittanyalone.gif" . Watching it again at 36, punches me right in the feels despite it being a forced pairing that I don't care for.

2000s movie about hacking and digital forensic investigation that possibly takes place at a college and possibly involves a suicide

We had to watch this movie in my cyber forensics class in college (2013). I think the movie was from the mid-2000s, possibly 2006? I remember there was a scene where a forensic investigator seizes a suspects computer and we get to see a brief bit of them doing an investigation on said computer. For some reason, I feel like I remember it taking place at or near a college. I also remember there being a death that was possibly a suicide. I remember being sad at the end and asking my professor the next day, "...why did we watch that?". I used to have a copy, but lost it to a hard drive crash.

It wasn't a big FBI thriller action movie. It wasn't 'Untraceable' and it wasn't 'Pulse'. It was either a one-word or two-word title.

Have y'all ever written something, looked at it, and gone "Why the fuck did I write this?"

I've been writing on and off since I was a kid. Typically, I write fanfic as kind of a way to immerse myself in a fandom or just to get me through a tough time. I seem to do my best writing when I'm "going through it", so to speak. Lots of whump, angst, hurt/comfort, etc.

I'm in a great place right now and haven't done any kind of writing in months. However, I recently re-read my comfort book (Ray Bradbury's 'Fahrenheit 451') and got this really odd urge to write. I hammered out this scene where an unnamed female OC seeks comfort from and pines after one of the side characters (a married man).

I don't need any kind of comfort right now, I have never pined after a married man, I'm not hormonal, so I have no idea where this came from. It's one of those things where, if my husband or anyone else read it, they'd think "She's unhappy and wants to run into the arms of another man."

I haven't finished it yet, but I read what I have so far and just thought, "Why in the ever loving FUCK did I write this?"

Anton Diffring

German, Jewish, fled Germany in the 30s.

Courtesy of his "vilanous" facial features, blond hair, and blue eyes, he was often typecast as vilans, primarily N**zis.

He passed in 1989 due to either cancer or complications from AIDS, I couldn't find a definitive answer on that. Doesn't look like he ever married or had children.

I had NO IDEA who this guy was until the other day. I got the itch to watch the 1966 Fahrenheit 451 movie for the first time in 15-ish years (it's not a good movie, but it's one of my comfort movies). He played a side character (last picture) and I thought to myself, "Who the fuck is this smokeshow?"

On the hunt for a fragrance that gives Fahrenheit 451 vibes

I posted this in r/perfumesthatfeellike yesterday and didn't get many replies. So, I thought I'd see what y'all think! This sub has never let me down when it comes to fragrance recommendations for fandoms, characters, etc.

This is my favorite book OF ALL TIME. I think I've read it a total of 8 times and each re-read was better than the last.... And a bit more relevant in this day and age.

I had a dream about it last night, so I dug up the 1966 movie adaptation and watched it for probably the first time in 15 years (it's not good, but it's one of my guilty pleasure comfort movies).

I \*need\* a perfume with Fahrenheit 451 vibes, specifically my man Montag.

Here's what immediately comes to mind:

Cinnamon

Gasoline (or some other kind of accelerant)

Cinders/burnt wood

Smoke

Amber (I just associate that with anything and everything mid-century)

Sandalwood or oud (some kind of cozy wood)

I know Sixteen92 did a Fahrenheit 451 fragrance several years ago, but I've had no luck finding it in sales and swaps.

For the love of GOD do not recommend Dior's Fahrenheit just because of the name.

Photos for guests to sign - Where the hell do I get them printed?

I'll be attending Animetown Greenville in October. This is going to be a special con for me as Dan Green and Eric Stuart will be there. I'm a huge Yu-Gi-Oh DM fan and am afraid that the Yu-Gi-Oh photos at their booths will go fast. I found some anime promo pictures that I'd like for them to sign (among a multitude of other things), but have no clue where to get them printed! FedEx only offers paper copies, PakMail no longer exists, and all of the other print shops in my area only offer banners and branded stuff. Are CVS or Walgreens decent options? I'm just wanting 11x17 matte prints.

This seems like a dumb question especially since this isn't my first con (been doing various cons since 2016), but I've always just gotten what's been offered at the guests' booths.

Something that smells like Axe Kilo that *isn't* Axe Kilo?

As a teenage girl in the 2000s, I thought I was so ✨edgy and cool✨ for carrying around a can of Axe in my bag. This one, Phoenix, and whatever the purple one was (Excite?) were my go-tos, but Kilo was my absolute favorite. Something about the blend of citrus and sandalwood made it feel so cozy.

I'm 37 and wouldn't be caught dead buying this crap now, so I'm looking for an actual perfume/cologne with similar notes:

Top: Basil, mandarin orange

Middle: Lavender

Base: Vanilla, sandalwood, "woody notes"

Is anyone else just compelled to make lists when things get overwhelming?

37F, inattentive type, medicated.

My husband and I just recently moved. Everything is out of place, rooms are disorganized messes, schedules are all out of whack. We're slowly starting to get settled, but we still have so much left to do. I keep trying to tell myself that we'll get there, but my brain keeps telling me that everything needs to be done *NOW*. This is something that came with being medicated. Prior to meds, I was just a "fuck it" kind of person. As long as a few things were in their places, I didn't care about everything else.

I've started filing my journal with lists of things that need to be done: Things that need to be cleaned, things that need to be organized, daily/weekly cleaning tasks, goals for the garden, plants I want in my spice garden, among others. I just makes me feel like I'm in some semblance of control during this chaotic transition.

Anyone else do this? Even if you don't plan on using the lists as checklists and just vague guidelines, does it help you feel in control?

EDIT: I have an appointment tomorrow with my ADHD doc and I plan to bring this up to her.

A little late to the game, but I finally made my Skitarii in Darktide!

I bought the class on release day, but had so much going on that I didn't get around to making her until this past weekend.

She's finally here!

For those who don't know, 'Isilon' was a brand of high-capacity enterprise storage servers made by Dell EMC (after they acquired Isilon Systems, hence the name. We had a couple at one of the last places I worked and I thought they were so cool.)

Reverant personality with the voice modulator cranked all the way up for maximum glitchiness. I'm roleplaying her as a little UwU OwO Y2K webcore gremlin; all she's missing are cat ears (yes, I'm sorry, I'm one of *those* people).

u/DarthNarcissa — 2 months ago

2000s Internet/Webcore

I was a teenager in the 2000s, and an Internet gremlin, and this was probably the *best* time to be online in my opinion. Back when nonsense memes from other countries (mainly Japan. Thanks, 2chan!) were everywhere, AIM and MSN messenger were still around, sites like Albinoblacksheep and Newgrounds were where you went for funny videos (prior to YouTube). I miss it terribly and would love to see if I can capture this feeling in a fragrance. At the time, I was wearing a lot of B&BW Japanese Cherry Blossom and some Invader Zim bubblegum body spray I got from Hot Topic. The reformulation of Japanese Cherry Blossom sucks and is a far cry from the original and I don't think I could handle a bubblegum scented fragrance these days.

Fragrances that I know will be suggested that I already have/have tried/are on my list:

Davidoff - Cool Water: Have it, love it, wore it all throughout 2004

DKNY - Be Delicious

Unjust Jewelry - Frutiger Aero: Have it. It's okay, but it doesn't match this specific vibe. It's just a clean soapy scent.

DS & Durga - Steamed Rainbow

ELDO - Ghost in the Shell

Juicy Couture - Viva La Juicy

Any other suggestions other than those listed above? I'm looking for something kinda weird and niche, but will also accept bright, crisp, obnoxious fruity scents from the 2000s!

Folks who did/had kids that did Susan Causey's dance school around 1994 - the Lion King themed canvas bag?

I was 4 in 1994 and vividly remember being part of Susan Causey's dance classes. Not long after The Lion King was released, she had branded bags that were black and featured pink linework of cub Simba holding a pair of dance shoes in his mouth.

No idea what happened to mine, probably got thrown out or fell apart at some point, but I'm trying to track down another. I'm sure this is a fool's errand, given that said bag is over 30 years old, but I at least want to try.

This is such a Frutiger Aero scent!

It's got that crisp, clean, green freshness that Frutiger Aero is all about! All it's missing is a green apple, pear, or white tea note for that extra bit of freshness.

Yes, I've tried *the* Frutiger Aero fragrance (I'm working on an in-depth review of that one), I own both Cool Water and Be Delicious, yet Rainkisses Leaves is, in my opinion, matches the vibe of the aesthetic the best.

It's not a permanent offering at B&BW anymore, but it's currently back for their Semi-Annual Sale. I think the sale ends next week, so go grab it of you want to try it!

Moving is driving me absolutely bonkers

36F, medicated, inattentive type, diagnosed at 33.

My husband and i just recently moved out of our previous home of 11 years into a larger, nicer home. It's been a whirlwind of emotions and I was practically in tears all this past weekend as we moved the last of our stuff out. You don't leave a home you spent 11 years in and NOT get emotional about it. This is our first *big* move as adults as our last moves were us moving out of our parents' homes.

I'm an "everything in its place" kinda person. Our last house was a hot mess due to several factors, but everything had its place or at least a spot where it fit. Right now, in the new house shit's everywhere. The kitchen counters are barely visible, boxes are piled in our computer room, our guest room has just become a dumping ground for stuff we don't know what to do with (We even have piles of books in the kitchen cabinets because we haven't set up our bookshelves yet). Hell, we had to practically carve a walking path in our computer room last night. I know this is normal for a big move, but I want to start organizing and cleaning stuff up *NOW*. Like, if it was up to me, I'd skip work for a whole week and just spend that time cleaning and organizing. I know someone's gonna come along and say, "You have too much stuff, you need to get rid of stuff.". We have. We took three huge loads of donations to a local thrift shop last week and have another huge pile of stuff to go this weekend. So, this is *after* weeding stuff out.

Another thing that's driving me banana sandwich is the fact that some pieces of furniture don't fit in our new space. I set up my computer desk last night. I tried to arrange it the same way I had it in the old house... But forgot that the slopes ceilings in the new computer room are lower and steeper than in the old house. My monitors wouldn't fit in the same spot. In addition to that, the little shelf my printer sat on, that I was going to put on the wall right next to my desk, sticks out too far and leaves almost no room for me to pull out my keyboard tray. (Only the left side of my desk is against the wall, the back of my desk faces out towards the room. The shelf was going to go on my left against the wall.). So, the shelf doesn't have a place, neither does my printer or printing supplies.

Meanwhile, my husband got his desk, computer, knick knacks, etc. set up with no issues. Most of his stuff has a place.

TL;DR - Moving. New house is an absolute mess and I'm struggling with the fact that nothing has a defined place, and that things aren't fitting into the places I originally defined for them.

I wasn't sure where else to put this rant, but I'm sure there's someone else here that gets my frustration.

Low slanted ceilings - monitors won't fit on desk with riser.

Just recently moved to a new house. The upstairs bonus room that we've designated our computer room has a really steep/low slanted ceiling that's too low for me to set up my monitors on my riser. I have to have the riser as it gives me more desk space and keeps my desk from feeling cluttered, so getting rid of it isn't an option. Nor is changing my desk orientation. If I had my desk up against the wall, my riser and monitors would practically be in the middle of my desk. I've also attached a picture of what my desk setup looked like in our old house. The slanted ceilings were higher and not as steep, so I could put my desk up against the wall and use the riser with no issues.

These monitors are super old and not adjustable. Only one of them has the four screw holes for for a vesa mount, so I can't use monitor arms without replacing my monitors, which I don't want to do unless I absolutely have to.

What are my options here aside from ditching the riser?

Long sleeved rashguard one-piece swimsuits with shorts?

This is the TA3 Surfy Boy Shortie. They still offer this style, but only sleeveless and short sleeved. I'm self-conscious and I burn easily (even with sunscreen), so I would *prefer* something long sleeved.

No preferred price point. I don't mind paying extra for something high quality.

Please bring this back permanently! Signed a 2000s emo kid.

I alternated between this and Japanese Cherry Blossom my junior and senior years of highschool (2006/7 - 2008) during the height of my "emo phase". I have selfies from that era that show those two on my nightstand. I also wore it a bit in college and was wearing it when I met my husband back in 2009. It's such a nostalgic scent for me and I'm so happy they brought it back for SAS, but I would love to see it as a permanent fixture!

Working on my Magos OC - How do I make him look "sad"?

I sketched this out a while back (I'm not the world's best artist). I'm not going into his whole backstory, but he's a certified Sad Boy™, going as far as to modify his facial augments so that he looks sad. The guy's been through some *stuff*. The problem is... I'm not really sure how to portray that. I think the rounded vox grille looks better than the triangular one (more like a frown), but I'm not sure what to do with his ocular lenses.

I couldn't find any good examples in the AdMech galleries I went through.

Halfway through season 2. Please tell me there's a satisfying ending.

My husband and I just watched the episode where >!war gets declared on the stronghold in the north!< so we're pretty close to the end. Things are looking pretty grim right now and it's figuratively killing me that Jinshi is separated from Maomao, especially after the events of the hunting trip (you know, when Maomao squashed that frog). I'm trying so hard not to go looking at spoilers but I just need to know if we get a Jinshi and Maomao reunion towards the end.

Obviously no outright spoilers, please!
