Looking for solo journaling/pen and paper games

Hello!

I have always loved Baldur's Gate and Dragon Age and similar games about roleplaying, so I tried to play a campaign with some friends a while ago and it was fine, it was fun, but we have only played 2 games in 6 months and I am losing interest.

I saw that there are solo roleplaying games that you can play with minimal materials, so I wanted to try those but I don't really know where to look. I also wanted to spend no money first. Any recommendation is appreciated. Take into account that my experience with DnD comes from games rather than campaigns, because I have only ever played those two sessions and most of them were spent explaining things, because none of us had ever played or GMed before.

Thank you!

Sansa and Daenerys

Hello!

I've always thought that Sansa and Dany made a lot of sense for whatever reason. I've always wanted to write a fanfic to practice my English and to have something to do to kill time where I do not want to use screens.

Is there a ship name or something for these two? Is there a fandom? I have been looking around but I did not find anything!

Also, general writing recommendations for fanfics or etiquette? I've read the books + watched the show. I am leaning towards going for show canon simply because it is less convoluted and it would be easier for me to fact check and keep everything as close to the source material as possible! Should I just write and then upload as I have the chapters, or should I have some chapters up first?

Thank you! I've read a fair amount of fics from different fandoms, but I never wrote any fanfiction in my life.

Majority of people play the martyr nowadays and are not the empaths they think they are

People that go around saying things like "at least you can (whatever)" or try to make you feel appreciative of shitty situations just because they have it worse are incredibly tiring. I think that we've reached a culture where everybody and their mother think that they are a lamb for slaughter and completely push their problems over everybody else, but at the same time refuse to acknowledge that maybe the person that they are trying to guilt trip may have had problems of their own! How can people be trying to make others feel empathetic, when they aren't?

Going to fish tomorrow after 15 years

Hey!

So, I've had my sights on fishing for a while, I used to go a lot with my grandpa or my father when I was like 10 and I enjoyed it, but since then I didn't fish again. I enjoy birdwatching, so I thought that I could merge both in one and just enjoy a couple hours in the beach or by the river.

Now, were I live we have amazing coasts. I am Galician. I am going to go with a friend to a nearby beach at like 9pm, because she has told me that she wants to try and it will be fun to just spend time there and talk. We are going to get our licenses, it's like 5 dollars here, so no biggie, and you can get them through the internet.

I asked my father to lend us some rods fit for the coast, and he has told me that he has two that we can use. He is going to ready them for me and he will lend us everything and give me a remembering class on knots and casting, and we only have to buy worms. So, we are covered in that aspect.

I have checked the tides and it starts to lower at 8pm, so there will be current. The website I checked says there are not a lot of fish there, but we are just giddy about going and spending some time at the beach so I don't really mind if we don't catch anything. I think we are going to be happy either way.

Now, I wanted to ask for some general tips regarding coastline fishing. And, specially, what to do if people approach us or get too close to us to fish, specially because we are two women, noticeably inexperienced, and we are surely going to be taken for idiots.

Thanks!

Barefoot shoes should be illegal

Why the fuck do I have to see all your toes inside some kind of sock? It's deeply disturbing and it makes me insanely uncomfortable to see toes being splayed like that. I find it obscene, even, it makes my skin crawl.

I get it can be comfortable and healthy, I really do, but I would rather you walking around without any shoes on (even if it would displease me too, it is gross) or sandals than see your little toes opened like they were hand fingers.

Edit: okay so, a couple things. Unneeded to tell me I'm mentally ill, to try to explain my own feelings to me and it is also not appreciated being this dismissive about an opinion on the internet. If you want popular opinions, go to popular opinions, but there is not need to be this cranky and displeasing. Feel free to argue me about it, telling me I'm weird, and so on; but please do not be rude. The illegal thing is an hyperbole, ffs, stop with that already.

Edit2: okay so to the person that contacted reddit care services on my behalf: I love you, this was really funny.

Waiting in the hospital when someone is sick is idiotic

I had a minor operation some months ago, something minor, but they had to leave me in the hospital to watch out for infections. My family didn't leave my side at any moment, I was accompanied 9am to 9pm, and only a person at a time is allowed in the room so they took turns. I was fine, there are nurses around, where could I possibly be more safe? My partner couldn't come see me because she was away spending time with family, but I'm sure that she would have stayed the night with me too because she told me, and I told her I didn't understand. I had to endure my mother complaining all the time about "this is so tiring" "I'm really tired"... Then leave?

Now, my grandpa has had an operation to take out a bacteria from his foot. He is fine, he got admitted to the hospital a couple days ago and had surgery yesterday, everything is fine and he is good, but they want to leave him for a couple days too just in case, to watch out if the bacteria comes back. My family is at it again, not leaving. We are taking turns and I am participating, of course, but I find it SO idiotic. If the person wants to, sure, but he doesn't want to either. And I can't deal with the "this is tiring" complaints from my mother. I honestly do not get it.

Of course, if the person was really sick then yes, but if the person clearly does not want people waiting there, and has told so numerous times? I don't understand, I really don't. I was so fed up with them when they were with me, and I cannot stand people that act like my mother does when the one that has the inconvenience is the one that is in the hospital, not the one visiting. Besides, it's only one person at a time! My grandma obviously wants to stay there all the time, so then why are we all waiting in the cafeteria? To what need?

I need mod recommendations for a single player game

Hello!

So, I recently had that Minecraft itch again and I want to play it. I also have the House of the Dragon hype again, so I figured that I would like to play the Ice and Fire mod, I played it years ago and it was nice. What goes well with it?

Now, the thing is, I have a low end laptop. It functions nicely, I use optifine, but it can get angry at me if I ask too much of it, so I would like to keep my mod list fairly short. I also do not like mods where I need to check the wiki constantly for absolutely everything.

I also have a problem regarding setting my own goals: I say something like "I want to build (whatever)" and then I abandon the project or something and get bored, so I would like some tips/mods that set some goals directly on the game that aren't "reach the end and kill the Elder Dragon".

My must have mods are: a map mod (i cannot bother with coordinates) and the WAILA one, and the one that tells you recipes (just enough items was it? Can't remember). I also need optifine, or I can't play at all. I have Java, and use curseforge.

So, any help appreciated! Thank you.

I really think that people complain much more about things when women are protagonists

I said this yesterday after watching House of the Dragon and everybody flew at my neck. I just think it is true, people will nitpick and complain and try to bring everything down if a woman is the main protagonist of a show, videogame or movie. Specially in recent times.

Like, someone said that the recent show about ser Duncan the Tall was very well received, I said that it is probably because the protagonist were men, and everybody is flying at my neck. But it's true? They do not complain if they are men!

For any GoT fans, look at Jon! How many people complained about Jon and how many complained about Sansa? Once Daenerys started being more present herself (rather than being married/having relationships) they started to complain about her too.

I do not know if I've gotten too fat — No time to gym properly and issue with past EDs

Hello!

I am currently working and studying at the same time, so I spend a lot of time at home (I work from home) sitting in a chair. It has been like this for two years. Normally, my Mon-Fri is like this: I wake up, coffee, alternate working with studying, lunch break, rest for an hour, back at it again till 7pm. I try to go to the gym maybe 2 times a week minimum, but lately I haven't been managing to go even once. It does me good not only because of exercise, but because I go with friends to the typical guided classes. I do spinning, body pump, cross, core workouts... And, if I'm not too tired, I walk a bit on the treadmill on an incline. At home, when I get tired of the screen I walk for a bit, like 5/10 minutes in one of those little step machines. I try to do it every 2 hours at a minimum if I'm seated too long. I sometimes lift dumbells too.

Regarding my eating habits, I cannot count calories because I had a really really really bad relationship with food in the past. I do the plate rule: half vegetables, a quarter carbs and the rest protein; and for dinners I usually have cereal if I'm feeling down or vegetable puree that I prep in advance and freeze. Sometimes a french omelette, rice with tuna... easy things. I have been eating like this my whole life (when I stopped struggling with EDs), I like eating healthy and do not like fried things on the daily. I also do not tend to snack and, if I do, I have a couple chips, those little ice creams or some fruit. I follow a Mediterranean diet, because it is what I grew up with. I, of course, still indulge sometimes. If I want to have something greasy on the weekends when I'm with friends, I have it. I also drink a couple of beers on the weekends.

The thing is, I got gifted a scale at the supermarket. I don't have one at home but I got curious and it has that thing that measures your body composition. I do not know what to make of it. I have the following:

I am a woman, 25 years old, I am 1.6cm (5,2) and I weight 61.3kg (135).

Body fat: 29.1%

Water?: 52.4%

Bone: 8kg (17,6)

Muscular mass: 35.4%

I know that I have a sedentary life at the moment. Going to the gym really brings me down because, after a long ass day, I would rather be doing literally any other thing. The problem is, my hobbies are all sitting down too minus one, birdwatching, that I cannot do at 7/8pm because I still have to do chores or dinner prep, and I cannot go after 9pm because it would be too late. And, honestly, sometimes I'm just so tired that I just want to lay down or plop in the sofa for the rest of the day.

I do not see myself fat, maybe I have gotten a bit chubby in the belly area, and I have a bit of a double chin and fuller face. It has taken me too long to reach a comfortable state with my eating, I used to weight 45kg. I do not think that 60kg if I am 5'2 is a lot, but I do not really know. It has taken me a lot of years to reach 55kg, I did that 3 years ago, but have I gone overboard?

Please, what can I do know? Should I focus on fitting exercise as much as I can? I worry that, by doing this, I will despise it even more and not want to do it anymore once I can stop studying.

Can't pronounce — I'm a stutter

Hello!

I am a native Spanish speaker, I studied English since I was young because I enjoy language learning. Later on, I did English Studies and a Master's degree in translation too. In my country, we have the Cambridge exams but I never did none because I am lazy, but now I want to go to the C2 one.

I think that my written and listening level is well above C1, I write on the daily for my job and I usually frequent forums (like Reddit) and that helps me practice. I watch all media in English and read in English a lot too; so I think that I will have to work for that C2 (obviously, I'm rusty on grammar too) but that is not my main issue.

I have an stuttering problem. I mispronounce things in Spanish too because my words trample over each other a lot. It is not as bad as when I was a kid but it is very noticeable. I excelled in phonetics in college, never had an issue with it and, in my mind, I pronounce everything correctly. But when I speak, I just get tongue tied. When doing my final thesis, the tribunal told me that the thesis was excellent and that it is obvious that I can write and think English like it is my mother tongue, but that my pronunciation did not reflect my level. They knew, because they were my professors, that I have that stuttering problem; so they weren't too harsh on me and understood that I can't help it.

I went to an speech therapist for years to help my general speaking, I have built confidence and can speak to an audience now, but when I speak English it's like I'm back to the starting line again.

I try reading aloud, speaking with my girlfriend (she is also good at English) and copying movies/shows pronunciation. I just can't do it, I stutter and babble. And I know that I have to, if I want to take the C2 cert. Any help, please?

Lara Croft in Legacy of Atlantis, do you think they are going back to past?

Regarding the State of Play announcement!

Does anyone feel that they have returned to the "I'm a sexy thing to be looked at" Lara look from the past? I scoffed audibly when we were presented with her ass in that suit.

I also do not see her as muscled as she was in SoTR... I get that this is a re imagining and everything but I feel iffy about this.

Unpopular opinion - I did not like Wednesday's characterization in S2 AT ALL.

Hello all!

So, I did enjoy season 1 because it was fresh, it was funny and the characters felt nice to watch. It was like going to the past and seeing your childhood in the screen. I loved Wednesday as a kid and she was my go-to costume when I was 5 to 10 years old.

In season 1, Wednesday was what she was supposed to be: a weirdo, harsh but caring, and a menace. She is a teenager learning how to behave, basically. I liked how her relationships unfolded.

But in season 2 I find myself scoffing. They are not the same character at all. Granted, she has changed because of the things that happened to her but she is portrayed as an idiot that does not think and I simply do not like it at all. I feel like they tried to push the emo too much and it did not work. Her characterization was miles better in S1.

The Tyler issue specifically, they make her seem cruel. And she was never that, she is unconventional.

On another note, I really like the rest of the Addamses lol. I loved Morticia when I was a kid too.

I had my anger issues controlled and they are coming back.

Hey.

I have received psychological treatment for anger issues. I grew up with my mother, her boyfriend, his son and his daughter. They fought constantly, my step sister and brother had each other but I didn't, since I was left out a lot. He favored his children (espcially the son) over me. Therefore, I grew up displaced and with a lot of resentment toward him and my mother. For fighting and for allowing it.

I moved out on my own as soon as I could once I turned 18. I was very happy, going to the psychologist and managing my violent outbursts. Before, I would slam doors, break things, throw things across the room or start hitting the walls or the doors. They were outbursts that I could not physically control, my body reacted before my head and I couldn't stop.

I had to move back to my mother's house now, because I got fired from my job and I am preparing a government exam, so she offered me to go back and it was necessary, because I would have ended up homeless if I didn't come back. I have to get back on my feet and pass this exam, so I cannot leave yet.

I do not really like my stepfather. The most supportive thing he did for me was picking me up sometimes, giving me ten bucks and paying for some scarce things that I would need, but never nothing major like school supplies or clothing when I grew up. I do not have appreciation for him, I call him my father but he is nothing to me. Nor are my stepsiblings.

He is useless. He cannot do anything, not even work. It is not my place to educate him or to deal with him, but their constant fights make it everybody else's problem. I pay more than he does at home and my mother allows it, I do more than he does too and I have a remote job + study 8 hours a day. He plays victim because he went through surgery for something minor, similar to appendicitis. He hasn't been working for as long as I remember and he lives off whatever money the government gives him.

I am embarrassed of him. Profoundly. He is a waste of a human being. But they have a son together, my brother. So that ties them, I guess. I do not really understand why does she allow him to do this. I theorize that it has something to do with my father, he was abusive to her and to me, and this dude sure isn't, at least not physically.

Anyway, recently when they fight I get invaded by this rotten feeling again. I start throwing things again, I cannot control it. Just now, we were eating and he had to go speak with insurance for the house, because we have a problem with the roof. He didn't go. My mother found out and she got mad, and they started fighting. When they fight, he stares ahead at the table and doesn't respond. I tell her to stop because he is not listening, and he always says "I am listening." So he did again today, and I got really mad and I just threw my plate to the sink. It didn't break, but the food I was eating flew around. I started picking it up immediately, he got up and left and my mother started pestering me. She told me that she was fed up with me, that she works and comes home to this and that I have to stop being like this. She told me "he is not your husband" and I told her that she makes it everybody's problem by doing this constantly. I am not exaggerating, this happens at every meal, dinner or time we are together. I told her that I do not understand why she allows this to happen, but she kept pestering me and calling me names till I cried.

I went to my room and I have been here for hours now. He came back recently and I heard them argue once again. I am mad at myself for allowing the anger to pass through me like I am a child, and I am more mad to let their comments or fights affect me.

Thankfully, my brother isn't home. But he is also exposed to the constant fighting and negging. It is bad, but I do truly wish she left him and to not see him again. I would be sad for maybe a couple days but that's it if I'm honest. He is a nuisance. I am in charge of the chores too because he has set it up perfectly for himself: he does things so badly that he doesn't do them anymore. So I do, because my mother works and I am home in the mornings, working and studying.

I am the bad guy now, and I probably will have to be the one to say sorry because nobody will tell me anything if I don't speak.

TL;DR: parents fight, anger issues come back, I threw plate, nobody speaks to me

Dudas sobre matrimonio por lo civil

Hola!

Gracias!

I am a failure

Hey. I am 25F, about to turn 26. Still live with my parents. Girlfriend living with parents too. Finished my studies last year, degree and Master's, on dead end field (translation). Now studying for a public administration position, exam in maybe a month or two. Going steady with the studies, but I do not study enough. I do not have motivation. I want to land this position so I can leave my parent's house and go live with my girlfriend. She is finishing degree, on a similar useless field like me. She has a very low paying job on a tech company as customer support, I work contracts right now remote too. We do not have enough to pay rent anywhere, we live 1 and a half hours apart but we can only manage to see each other one time a month if we are lucky.

She also wants to study for a public position. Which, on average, takes 1-2-3 years. I have been studying for 6 months. I know that, if I land it, I am going to be over the top and all my worries regarding work are going to be over. It does not pay a lot, but I can do more exams without losing the job to opt to more pay. But I know that it is possible that I fail. There are 30 free posts, and 600 people are going for them (myself included).

If I fail, I think I can't take it. I worked as a teacher before, I hate it. I got fired from my last job because I refused to be part of the work family. "Fired", but technically I didn't pass the "initial trials" as they call it. I do not want to look for another job, I want to pass this exam. But I can't do it. I am stuck, I am a worthless leach and I spent all my money in a fucking useless degree.

I don't even know if I am good at my passion, translation. I did unpaid internships and they went great, but they didn't call me back from any of them. When I got fired from my last job it mined my confidence. I know that it wasn't really my fault, they had toxic practices, but it really dragged me down. I am stuck and I feel like I cannot continue like this anymore. I want to change my life and start living, but I cannot even fathom paying for a psychologist right now.

What do you think of recorded "interviews"?

I got sent an invitation to an interview via LinkedIn and I started reading their conditions. Turns out, when you do a recorder interview they use your recording to feed their AI and basically train it.

I work mainly as a bilingual specialist/core, so I figure they have a big market where they interview people this way, hire them for the model project and then they fail said project. Basically, they are just paying peanuts to people to have multiple videos to train.

I hope people stopped doing this. I know this is utopic, but I worked for a company that does not require any video uploaded at all and it is miles better than some of these ones that ask for so much personal info. If no one did it, they would stop asking for it. And they need humans to train so...

Need help finding my first ever played game - very few clues

SOLVED: it was Monkey Hero! Thank you all.

Hello all! When I was little my father and uncle had a PS1 and I remember playing all kind of games like Spyro. I have been able to remember ALL games I played except one. I will give you all I remember about it. Sadly, I am not in contact with that side of the family anymore so I cannot ask them directly.

First of all, I believed it was some kind of Ice Age game, but when I searched for them they do not look like my game at all. I tried searching in this page (https://findthagame.vercel.app/) but I am also at a loss. I will give you the details now:

-I was born in the year 2000. Therefore, I must have played the game from between 2000-2010 maybe. Since I was an infant, I am inclined to say 2004-2008.

-It has to be before 2010-2012 because I stopped visiting my father around that year, but I do not really remember exactly when.

-I played the game on the PS1 and I am almost positive, because I remember it being grey and opening like a cassette. I distinctly remember playing Spyro the most and it must have been PS1 Spyro, because I remember finding eggs around and the low poly graphics (I checked on Google).

-I remember the game being kind of like a bird view. Not like spyro, where the camera is a third person, I remember looking at the character from above but not like Hotline Miami, I saw the character perfectly. Similar to games like Don't Starve or Teenage Exocolonist, that kind of view.

-The graphics where (I think) pixels. Like Stardew Valley with more texture. Possibly simply low graphics though.

-I remember a character I thought was Buck from Ice Age (hence why I thought Ice Age was the game I was looking for) but it wasn't. I remember it being reddish and walking in two legs. Possibly an animal but now I am doubtful.

-Gameplay wise, I hardly remember anything. I remember that the character walked around a green background. Like grass. I remember (possibly) talking with other characters in the green background.

-For some reason, I distinctly remember that the background was very green with darker and lighter tones of green details.

And that's all I have to offer. I'm sorry, I was very very young and it is possible I am forgetting or modifying some details. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

EDIT: It is highly possible I am not remembering the graphics correctly. All ps1 do not look as pixelated as I remember them to be.

▲ 0 r/diet

I have a very specific diet and my mother went to a new nutritionist - this has changed our eating habits for the worse.

Hey! Sorry for the long post, it is kind of a rant. TLDR at the end.

So, my mother isn't able to loose weight and has tried everything, from Ozempic to extreme diets. She works a very physical job so she needs to have enough calories. The problem with her is that she can eat the healthiest thing ever, be full, and then she later eats something like doughnuts or a pack of microwave popcorn. So she isn't able to loose any more than a couple pound per month (at best) or, alternatively, she is stuck in her weight.

Now, I work from home and went back to living with them because of housing problems, so I am in charge of cooking. I was on a very strict diet because I have been recovering from EDs and I am autistic and struggle with textures a lot, so I took a long time with my nutritionist to build a list of "safe foods" that will not trigger me, keep me full and supply me with my nutrients. It has been good, I do not binge anymore (it has been years) and I am in a very healthy weight (even a little bit overboard, which I am honestly proud of given my history lol).

I cook (variations, of course) of my meals for them and it has been great. My brother had problems with his bloodwork and has been better (he isn't even a teen yet, so he is still learning to eat), for example. Usually, I do the plate rule (half of the plate greens, a quarter of protein and a quarter of carbs, but sometimes without the carbs as we tend to eat bread) and I add for them foods that are not safe for me. For example, I cannot eat squash because I used to binge on it in lieu of eating anything else at all and it triggers me a bit. So I do not eat it, but add it to their portions (ratatouille, for example). For my mother's sake, I avoid heavy fats like using too much oil (only a drop on the pan/a little spray for the oven or the airfrier), cream; and so on, or cook the vegetables steamed with only salt. To keep the unneeded calories at a minimum.

Here comes the problem. She went to a new nutritionist that completely shattered this routine we had. She told her that we eat very badly (I completely disagree) and gave her a totally new food plan. To keep it short, she told her the following:

-No meat, only 1 time a week.

-Fish 2/3 times a week.

-Legumes 4/5 times a week.

The general tips she gave her was to eat a ton of boiled potatoes, to eat Greek yogurt for breakfast with toppings, and that she could eat whatever portions she wanted if she ate from her recipe list. Now, this doesn't sound bad at all, vegetable protein is great and all that, but she has gotten worse.

She now eats like 3 or 4 whole boiled potatoes, a serving of vegetables and at most a boiled egg or a can of tuna. The nutritionist told her that this is enough protein and that she should feel full after that, which I doubt extremely. I've tried eating with her like this, and it didn't even fill me and I was hungry an hour later. The nutritionist told her to prioritize vegetable protein and avoid meat at all costs, which I do not think is healthy at all. She has been parroting that "meat is not good anymore, we are better off eating vegetables" and it has taken a toll on us all. My brother has stopped eating at lunch as much as before and has started eating cookies or things like that as desert, for example.

I told her that I do not like this at all and that, if she wants to loose weight, she cannot eat 4 potatoes with vegetables and lentils (at most) and then eat some diet cookies because she is not balancing.

This has taken a toll on me because she has also shattered my routine and my habits. Besides working, I study too, so it takes me much more time to cook now because foods are more elaborate. I have tried batch cooking but we are four, I can only prep for like 2 or 3 days in advance. I also eat less now, because if I want to keep eating like I have to I have to cook two meals separately and it costs me much more time and money.

I ultimately want to help my mother lose weight, but she has gained it since going to this nutritionist. She eats a packet of microwave popcorn and she says "the nutritionist told me so!" and I told her that, for loosing weight, she should make the popcorn herself because then you do now have the additional calories. Or, she would eat a packet of nuts because the nutritionist told her. I refrain on commenting a lot on calories and such, because I do not want to come off as condescending, but it seems wild to me that a nutritionist recommends eating a whole packet of mixed nuts for loosing weight.

So, this gets on my nerves because I think my mother's problem is with eating things that should be only casual (like sweets, doughnuts and such) on the daily because she thinks that having a healthy diet allows to eat trash food on the regular.

I do not know what to do or how to make her see that this weight journey is not working for her, if she couldn't even lose it with Ozempic, she has to work on her habits better.

TL;DR: I have a very specific diet, we were good with it; my mother went to a new nutritionist and she has shattered our way of eating for the worst.

My mother got a new nutritionist and this is getting on my nerves as a recovering ED and autistic.

Hey! Sorry for the long post.
