Evidence (for SLC) when travelling abroad with cash

Hello all,

I may be going on extended travels with my savings and I know that for Student Loans you have to inform the SLC when you leave for more than three months.

I am planning to mostly take cash as I'm worried my card won't work well over there (had this problem before on shorter travels). My worry is that when SLC ask for evidence from my bank statement they may find it insufficient if I'm not using my bank card.

What can I do with regards to this? What kind of evidence will I need to not get arrears up the wazoo whilst I'm out of the country?

Is Assessment-only QTS valuable in China?

What the title of the post says essentially. Is the assessment-only English QTS valuable in China? Or do they only like the long-form version?

Thought about taking it but wouldn't wanna spend years teaching in England first

Any good recruiters or Wechat groups for employment in Guizhou?

Whilst looking at jobs in Guangdong and Guizhou, I've found that there are many recruiters and such online posting for Guangdong but nothing for Guizhou.

I found this post from here but it's a few years old, didn't get much traction, and is now closed.

So, anyone got any links for Wechat groups, employers or recruiters in Guizhou?

Best Corporate / Finance jobs to aim for for foreigners in HK?

Hello all, especially foreign non-teachers working in HK! Got a question here for you:

I am a former teacher planning to do business school soon. Hoping to move to HK in the future.

My question is: what are the best jobs to aim for in the Corporate/Finance/Finance-adjacent fields in HK? What do you guys work in? And what are the prospects for getting into that late, and from a non-Quant background?

Want to make sure my goals are attainable and realistic so I can focus on the right things

(P.S. can speak Mandarin but not Cantonese yet, planning to learn though)

Transition style from short hair to wolfcut?

Hey peeps,

So I've decided I want a wolf cut like the one in picture 1, ideally. However, my hair is currently way too short to get one and tbh rn it looks pretty rubbish (kind of like pic 2 but less styled, just shaggy brown hair that is too long to keep easily styled but too short to do long length styles with)

My question is: what can I do with it style-wise whilst I'm waiting for it to grow out to the appropriate wolfcut length? I don't wanna go to the barbers as is because I'm worried if I get it cut wrong it'll set me back waiting even longer to grow out to a wolfcut. Yet my hair rn looks frankly embarrassing and I wanna make it look more kempt. I've only had short hair styles before so I'm at a bit of a loss

Considering styles like pics 3 & 4 for later transitional styles, but rn I'm too short even for those. Anyone have advice what I can ask for or pictures I can show that won't slow my growth for the wolf cut but won't let me look like an unkempt nob? Or do I just need to suffer for a while?

MiM vs MBA for transitioning from teaching into Finance

Hello all,

So I've been teaching for five years and want to get out of it. However, after teaching for this long it's hard to get a job doing anything else.

I'd like to do a Masters to give me a boost into getting into Finance or Corporate work, hopefully moving tk Hong Kong or Shanghai eventually

My question is: would a Masters in Management or Finance be sufficient to get into a role in a Finance company, along with obviously taking courses in specific software and stuff alongside? Or would MBA be the only way to go?

My main concerns are the cost of studying full-time without any real income for two years. And also the lost time. I'm planning to apply this Sept after doing GMAT, so won't start until 2027. Two more years after that seems rough since I'm already 30. But I don't wanna do a one year course that doesn't get me anywhere, I know it's a tough market nowadays

What do you guys think about Masters and other future plans for a former teacher hoping to get into Finance or something Finance-adjacent?

I'm importing/exporting from Asia to UK / Netherlands and I'm thinking of bringing some gyaru-style items over, particularly clothes.

What kind of styles, colours and items do you wish you could get easier / cheaper / at all over here? If there's enough demand I'll get on it!

Hello all,

I have to take the GMAT or GRE this year and would love to get some help on the Quant part. Prefer an in person tutor, it's been a pain to find someone online.

If there's anyone in Sheff who can help me, please lmk!~

Hello all,

I'm around HSK3 Level and recently discovered this song. All the songs I liked before were all Cantonese songs, but this one is in Mandarin and has a lot of recognisable phrases for someone my level, and it's also very fun!

Are there any other songs like this which are Mandarin, easy-to-learn for a HSK3 speaker and fun to listen to? I like this sort of music and 80s power ballads mostly lol
