Has anyone ordered from capwrights.com?

Wondering if I should give it a go. The website looks nice enough and their story seems all folksy (but written in ai) but can seem to place where they're located. Wondering if their quality is as good (and worth the money) as their presentation.

Why is the Find a Grave logo styled like 1960s Jeopardy?

Kind a beatnik light-hearted arrangement. Odd considering the morbid nature of their service.

What to do when you're at accident scene and police want your SD card?

How does that work, or not? I would want to be helpful but I wouldn't want to hand over my only copy.

Any "living wage" (no tip) restaurants in Lexington.

The guilt tip at the end of the meal (especially for bad seating + minimal or mediocre service) is past my breaking point for acceptable. It was a breath of fresh air to not have to deal with this while visiting the UK. Price it plainly isn't too much to ask as I hear computers can do fancy things in 2026. Thanks!

Just watched The Changeling. What the deuce?

Hadn't seen this before.

At the end of the episode we cut to Elizabeth seen smiling and blowing out a candle immediately after the supernatural commotion. Did she just "wake up" and we're to assume the supernatural events (or the whole episode ala "snowglobe" storytelling) all in Elizabeth's head?

If the events actually did occur at the sleepover, it seems the Walton family would be the pariah of the community and have some real explaining to do once all those little girls got back home and told their parents.

I know it was the 70s and ghost stories were all the rage but this seemed a stretch for what viewers would expect.

Buying a used Maverick. What's the sweet spot?

Title says it all. Looking for the best year/trim/mileage for a price that doesn't say "might as well buy new." Thanks!

No more parade.com articles in my news feed!

No more "beloved rock star". No more "timeless classic'. no more goofy stories that have interesting headlines but empty stories, often about artists I've never heard of. I understand that I am guilty of clicking them which is why more appear. Digging around I clicked the three dots (in google news) where you can select no more from parade.com. so we'll see if it works. That being said my recollection of parade was as a very family-oriented Sunday newspaper insert of general interest topics. Not sure how they morphed into an annoying "parade" of AI-written articles in my news feed.

(Some, not all) text inside SVG shape from Inkscape is outline only in Design Space

I am wrestling with trying to figure out why two of the ten or so letters that "punch out" of a shape will not show as cut paths in Design Space. One letter is a compound path (an "a" with a counter in the middle) while the other is an r (non-compound) which should render properly like all the other letters. Instead they just show up as draw-only outline (can't see the DS transparency background grid).

I've broken the design up in Inkscape and Combined (to make it one path) but only about 90% success in DS. Any advice appreciated.

Does anyone remember owning an LP or 8-track that disclaimer "these songs were performed by our own studio artist in exactly the same style and production as the original artists"?

Usually a cheap fluorescent label with black ink only. Some were spot on and others were awful. Kind of like how 70s TV shows used sound-alikes of popular songs. What was up with that?

Vinyl siding does not appear to have vapor barrier behind it.

I nicked a hole in my vinyl siding with weed eather. There only appears to be a black plywoodish looking material. Yikes!

The area is an addition to an otherwise all-brick home but I suspect it was done on the cheap. Still a lot of siding and need to know if there is a way to investigate what needs to be done. Concerned about having to do a total tearout. Thank you.

Old Florida until it wasn't

We enjoyed our week vacationing at Amelia Island. We were attracted by its "old Florida" appeal and low costs. A couple of days in we ventured further out and noticed a duality of uber-expensive resorts that seemed tucked away as if they were hidden away from the town and beach areas. Took wrong turn in a forested area where we were men to turn us around as if we were getting too close to Dr. Evil's secret layer. What's up with that?

"From Now On" has really grown on me. Punchy, clear sounding song that doesn't try to overwhelm. Seems like it could have been an AOR classic.

I like Supertramp songs where the instruments are given room to breathe. What can you tell me about this song?

Who was the voice of the Jerry Spry hair salon radio commercials?

Guy had a really deep voice and was on a lot of other commercials at the time. Sort of like Ken Nordine Levi's ads but without the echoy responses after each sentence.

He'd rattle off all the celebrity clients the hair salon had. Not sure if it was a chain or just a Lexington location. Either way it sounded posh.

Just wondering if anyone knew.

Does anyone recall a bit of laugh track during the opening theme?

As a (sort of) regular viewer during the show's original airings I have this "memory" of something I'm hoping someone can confirm.

During "Those Were the Days" opener Edith would screech off-key "...and you knew who you WERE THENNNNNNN" followed by a brief but loud clip of audience laughter. This would happen at the beginning at the every episode for the first season or so. I guess it seemed hilarious, even on a weekly basis, as the world was just getting acquainted with the show. The Bunkers were all new.

In later seasons there was still a hint of audience laughter but it had noticeably died down a bit. We've heard the screech many times by this point and I guess the producers left it in as a polite chuckle.

I assume at one point the laugh disappeared altogether before the show ended its first run.

The one thing I am noticing is that on reruns (usually MeTV) all the intro laugh has disappeared regardless. I assume this is just how things were packaged for syndication.

Did anyone who watched the show in the 70s have this same recollection. I could be imagining things but thought I'd ask this sub of fine enthusiasts of the show

What did you think the first time you heard Breakdown?

What is that accent Tom Petty uses in his first hit "Breakdown"? I heard the first time it was ever played on our local radio station. He sounded like a foreign smoothie in a pool hall trying to pick up a girl. They played it right after a Rickie Lee Jones song so it it sounded like a continuation of that bowery vibe.

Did anyone work a security job where you had to carry around one of these?

https://preview.redd.it/1mdk9wwqlc3h1.jpg?width=629&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=075721e0ca199c31abeaf05563e38e3da1c18963

These where still in use when I had a PT nightwatchman job at a coffee warehouse in CA in the 80s.

You basically walked a prescribed route going from key station to key station. You twisted the key in the clock unit you carried with you. The key would press a location code onto a strip of tape and the clock would add a time stamp. That way the employer knew you were making your rounds per time expectations.

Vanity light install over off-center outlet box

I am installing a 30" horizontal vanity light (replacement). The outlet box will be covered but is about 12" to the right from center. I have managed to cut a hole in the back plate so the outlet box wires can run out. However there is not enough length with the light's wiring harness to reach the black and white wires from the outlet box.

Would it be safe/normal to bridge the wires additional 18awg (which is what's used in the vanity) and connecting with wire nuts?
